Cars 2 – Coming June 24 (Giveaway)

It is no secret that we are HUGE Disney fans in our house. I grew up watching Disney movies and went to Disney World all the time. TechyDad and I have continued this tradition. Ten years ago, we had our honeymoon at Walt Disney World and have created two little Disney addicts for the next generation.

It only seems fitting that TechyDad and I share our 10th Anniversary with a special Disney movie release. Yes, the photo above is a clue. On June 24, 2011, Cars 2 will be released in theaters near and far.

Both of my boys are beyond excited to head to the movies to see Lightning McQueen, Mater, and the rest of the Cars gang. Waiting to See The Help

Back at the start of October, I wrote about reading while I get other items done. One of those books was The Help by Kathryn Stockett. I had the audio version of the book on my MP3 player. The MP3 player went with me all over the place because I wanted to keep reading and hear what would happen next. I was thrown into the world of the characters and needed to listen to their tale. Before I knew it, I was finished and left to figure out what to read next.

Audio Books From The Past

All these months later, I am excited that The Help will now be coming out as a movie. As a teacher, I have to admit – books to movies do worry me. Too many times beloved books come to life on the big screen and then things change.

TheHelp

While watching the previews for The Help, I do not think this will happen. It appears that they have taken this powerhouse novel and made it into a movie to represent the well written words. Here is a featurette from DreamWorks’ that really has me excited about the release later this summer:

The Help comes to theaters August 12. I hope to see it soon after the release so I can see the amazing women in the film come to life. If you are a fan and want to check out more, The Help Movie has a Facebook page and are also on Twitter.

Have you read The Help? Are you looking forward to the movie? I would love to know what you think of books coming to life on the big screen.

Disclosure: PR from DreamWorks sent me media information about The Help. As a fan of the book, I wanted to share this information with my readers. No compensation was given, and all opinions are mine.

Teaching Kids About Bullies – Catch Me There

Each and every school is now faced with the dilemma of how to teach students about this topic. The reality is that educators need to be trained on how to present it within the curriculum and how to recognize it within the school setting. Children need to recognize when they are being a bullied, we need to try to prevent this behavior from the start.

Have you or your children ever been bullied?

In a perfect world, bullies would not exist. Unfortunately, I know this is not the case. TechyDad and I have written about this topic many times. We have had to deal with this on several levels this year.

This week, my post on The Disney Driven Life focuses on bullies. More specifically, Teaching Kids About Bullies With Disney. Yes, I think we could utilize Disney stories and movies to help teach kids about bullies and other forms of character education. I am certainly thinking outside of the box, but often times that is the best way to reach kids. You look for something that you can connect to the topic at hand and present it in a fun manner that will stick with them for life. Please stop by to check out my latest on connecting Disney with education and let me know what Disney bullies you can think of.

I hope to see you at The Disney Driven Life to say hello to everyone else that writes there as well. My other posts there can be found under NDM183 – that’s me!

Fairy Godmother Wishes

The other day I was looking at one of the  Vinylmations that I got on our recent trip to Walt Disney World. Here she is:

My Fairy Godmother Vinylmation

Whether or not you are a fan of princesses, the reality is that many of us have probably wished for our Fairy Godmother to come and grant our wishes with a simple Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo!

Yes, this adult woman would love for a Fairy Godmother to come in and help with a few items like:

  • Getting us a new house in a different school district that would magically fix the on going issues we have been having.
  • Clean my house and grant me magic storage areas.
  • Make auto-laundering clothing
  • Keep all of my family and friends happy and healthy
  • Make all of the tough decisions that go along with being an adult.

Yes, I know I am making my Fairy Godmother more of a combination of Genie and Fairy Godmother  with her magical mentoring abilities. Still, a girl can dream – no?!

Fairy Godmother at DisneySMMoms

Imagine that the Fairy Godmother above is here for you:

What would you ask your Fairy Godmother to do for you. Feel free to mention as many or few as you would like and explain anything that you may need to.

Pssst . . . be sure to stop by my Dove Men + Care giveaway along with TechyDad’s Dinosaur Train and Kung Fu Panda giveaways to enter for a chance to win some great items.

Tuesday Tales – Kingdom Keepers Series

Tuesday Tales

Last week, I wrote about a new to me author that I found while in Disney World in March. I have to admit, I am quite addicted to Ridley Pearson and his amazing books. Today, I had planned on writing a review of Kingdom Keepers: Disney After Dark, but a sick little Buzz Lightyear has changed those plans.

Sick Buzz Lightyear JSL

I finished reading the first in Kingdom Keepers book solo. We are probably 2/3 finished as a family for read aloud and NHL really has been into it.  Last night, I started to read the second book and am also doing research for a Kingdom Keepers post on The Disney Driven Life. I guess you could say I really like these books. They keep me on my toes, involve my love for Walt Disney World, and are genuinely entertaining.

Three of the Kingdom Keepers Books

Here is a video that Disney made for the recent release of the fourth book in the Kingdom Keepers series. As you will see, Pearson will be taking the next book outside of the Disney parks to the seas and has stated there will be seven books in the final series.

Yes, there is a Kingdom Keepers field trip opportunity for students. Can I go back to school now? I would love this not only as a student, but as a teacher. I would love to hear from anyone that has done one of these experiences.

What have you read recently? Please be sure to link up to your Book Posts, and/or leave a comment below. Include something you read on your own, with a child or someone else. Tuesday Tales are all about spreading the love for books.
