In Search of Hakuna Matata

Stress, it happens and it can leave you dreaming some odd things.

Hakuna Matata

One of my recent dreams was similar to this scene that we saw at Disney on Ice back in December.

Of course, my dream was of me as Peter Pan and someone else in the Captain Hook role. I no not know who that other person was because a few could have been staring in that special scene.

I know, you are thinking that I am supposed to be an angel. LOL – even angels have reality check moments where they take on another personality a la Stitch.

Disney is definitely on my brain. Watching the videos made me smile, laugh, and forget about some of the things happening in real life for a few moments. I hope you enjoyed them as well.

A Pirate’s Life on Ice

Heading to Disney on Ice, I knew that there would be a section of the show that would really get the attention of my little guy. You see, JSL loves pirates. We had his pirate birthday party earlier in the year. He has a pirate costume, and he is in love with Jake and the Never Land Pirates from Disney Junior. So when I heard that there was going to be a segment about Peter Pan, I knew that Captain Hook and his other pirate friends would be there.

Peter Pan was the last main segment before the finale of the Disney on Ice production of Mickey & Minnie’s Magical Journey. We got to see Peter Pan, Wendy, Michael, and John fly around and it was magical.

 Time to fly

This was fantastic and I could see that the boys loved it, but their faces lit up when Captain Hook and Smee came onto the ice. Of course, that was nothing like the looks when a giant pirate ship, version of the Jolly Roger, came on with a slew of pirate friends.

The pirates are coming

I even captured part of this on video for the kids to enjoy later on.

Even two weeks after the show, the magical moments are still strong for our entire family. These are the items I cherish.

Memories of Muppets Music

Growing up with the Muppets, I remember playing my Muppet Show album on my old Fisher-Price record player. Actually, I think my father also had it on an old eight track as well. Man do I feel old and, with my birthday coming, this hurts even more. Anyway, I have always loved listening to the Muppets sing.

It's Muppets TimeLast week, TechyDad bought the The Muppets Original Soundtrack MP3. The boys have been listening to it a lot with him. I had not really had a chance to listen to it. So when we went yesterday to see The Muppets, I was not jumping in my seat and singing along like the boys. Of course, I fell in love with it as I watched the movie come to life.

To say that I enjoyed the movie would be an understatement. I will just say that I can NOT wait to buy it on DVD and watch it over and over again. More on the movie coming later. One of the items that I really liked about the movie was it was old-school Muppets. It brought us back to the days when the Muppets really did a lot of singing and dancing. The songs were classic and fun for all ages.

When I got home, I found a fun video on YouTube about the soundtrack. It is a bit longer, but worth it. They had a lot of fun mixing The Muppets and their humor with would be YouTube comments.

Yes, the Muppets are back and I thank Disney for making it right. I do think Jim Henson is smiling down watching the next generation of Muppet addicts like my children.

The Where’s Goofy Game

As you have probably figured out long before now, my family really likes Disney. My parents are probably the reason that I have such a love for Walt Disney World and most things related to Disney. For my Father’s Birthday, we looked for something to get him. Dad really likes the artist Jim Shore. They have some of his pieces, but did not own any of his Disney items.

While shopping online, I found something really perfect on Amazon. It was Disney Traditions designed by Jim Shore and Goofy! I will admit that we had a hard time picking between Goofy and a few others, but in the end the boys wanted to get Papa Goofy. Why a Goofy for a planter? Well, this photo will probably help to explain it. Here are Papa’s babies:

Yes, my father loves African Violets. He actually goes to a semi-local place that had an African Violet greenhouse, called Lyndon Lyon Greenhouses, to get new variations. Taking macro photos of these has been really fun, but today I am focusing on Goofy. More African Violets coming soon. Since my father got Goofy, he seems to vanish. Yes, one day Goofy will be here:

Here’s a close-up of the sneaky little Goofster:

Hey there Goofy

The next day, if we happen to arrive at Nana and Papa’s house – Goofy will be in a completely different location.

Goofy in a new space

Yes, “Where’s Goofy” is the name of the game. When we walk into the house, the boys love to search and find him. The funny thing is that I think my parents actually hide Goofy on each other.

100 Days of School Projects – Catch Me There

It may only be September, but before you know it your children may be coming home with a 100th Day of School project. Did you have to do one as a child? You probably didn’t since they have not been celebrating this day very long.

Of course, my oldest has experienced this for a few years now. When he was in kindergarten we made a cool Googly Eye banner. This was something we came up with while exploring a craft store for ideas. The next year we had to come up with a project idea while at Disney World. The result was this:

100 Days Photo Project

My latest post on The Disney Driven Life: 100 Days of School Projects with Disney Memories is all about how we came up with this idea while on our trip. I share other ideas that we considered and ask people to let me know what other possibilities with Disney they can think of.

Please stop by to say hello and check out the other magical posts from my Disney Drive Life friends. My other posts there can be found under NDM183 – that’s me!

What 100th Day of school projects have you done with your children? I would love to know and think it would be great to share with others. Please share in the comments below and if you have written posts about them, feel free to leave a link as well.
