Weekend Party Mini-Vacation – Part 2

Saturday morning we all woke up from a rough night at the hotel. Thanks to nightmares, teething , and dreams of swarming ladybugs we slept in . . . at least for us. JL and I tossed on clothes while NHL and JSL stayed in pajamas to head down to the complimentary breakfast. The boys went down ahead of me so I could get myself set. By the time I was in the lobby NHL had already sat down and was chowing down.

Chow time!

After JSL’s seat was ready Daddy went to make the little guy a waffle.

Enough with the photos already - feed me!

JL making food for JSL

Finally his food was ready, so JSL checked it out and played with it for a little while.

When everyone was done with breakfast we went back up to the room. It was finally time to fulfill our promise of swimming in the hotel pool to NHL. JL and NHL put their swimsuits on and JSL and I went down to the pool to watch and take photos.

Here is JSL watching Daddy and Big Brother in the pool.

Mr. Serious watching everyone in the pool

NHL had a blast in the pool. He did not want to come out when it was time to go and get ready to pack up and head to the party. I think we now know we have to sign him up for swim lessons this spring and/or summer. Not only is it good for him to know how to do, it will be great for his muscles too.

NHL loved the pool

After an hour in the pool it was time to head back up to the room. We packed up, checked out of the hotel and were on our way to a 1st and 4th birthday party for Cousin S and A.

A special Wordless Wednesday coming tomorrow from the party photos and then the final post from our mini-vacation with photos from the Mickey Mouse and Pirate Party.

Weekend Party Mini-Vacation – Part 1

Did you miss me?  What? You did not even know I was away – sheesh! I guess I will have to try harder next time.

This weekend we had two nephew birthday parties together. JL and I were antsy about doing 5-6 hours of driving in one day with the boys. We toyed with staying at a hotel and making it a mini-vacation of sorts. Finally we decided Friday night to do it if NHL and JSL had a good night.

Saturday morning we got up and I packed everything up for the trip. We left the house with no reservations for a specific hotel. The hotel of choice was known and we had directions. On the way there we stopped about 45 minutes away at some outlets for lunch, potty break and retail therapy. I had a nice time at the HUGE Carters sale. Bought two things for JSL for next winter and had to purchase some girlie items for my only niece S. About two hours later we were back on the road.

We made it to the hotel of choice and I went in with the road saver coupon. I waited and waited for someone to come to the front desk – NADA. Finally I took out my cell phone, got the number and called. Suddenly a woman appeared and I hung up the phone and told her it was me calling since I had been out there for some time. No apology – nothing. This should have been my first clue. I asked about a room and showed her my coupon. She told me they were at 80% capacity and no honoring the coupon. WHAT? I questioned her and she got quite snippy.  I still do not understand why she would refuse a person a room over such a little amount of money to them. After all it was 4:30 and I doubt they would get a lot of people after that.

Rather than take a room I went out to the car to talk with JL. Apparently he thought I was joking about them not giving us the rate and took the kids out to go in. Finally I was able to get his attention and we went to the car to call two other hotels that were in the area. The first was a no go since their pool was being fixed. So I called the hotel that was directly across the street. They were wonderful on the telephone so we went right over. They were even better in person. We quickly were able to get a room for the coupon rate and this room also included a complimentary breakfast. Oh and important to NHL – they had a pool!

We gathered our things and went up to the room. We did a few things (diaper change and nursing were a must) and called JL’s sister. We were invited to their house and she suggested going out to dinner together. So we went there for a little while to let the boys play and then went to a diner right near their house.

At the end of the meal Cousin A and NHL split a sundae. Here is NHL eating his and he even shared a bite with JSL:

Ice Cream - YUM!

Not too sure about the cold ice cream

We toyed with going to Trader Joe’s after this, but it was late and the boys were really tired. So we went back to the hotel. On the way in I asked them a question about our room. I had noticed a ladybug and was curious if there was an issue. She said in some rooms. So we went up hoping it was not in ours. Unfortunately we soon found out ours had an issue and we caught several and had others swarming at the lights before bed.

In the room we quickly set up the sofa bed for NHL. He was quite excited about sleeping in it alone. Although he fell asleep quickly the poor kiddo had a rough night. He woke up at about 2:00 asking to go home because he missed his bed. Awwwww! JL was sweet and climbed into the rough looking bed with him. Here is NHL before falling asleep and later on when he was in it alone.

Next it was time to get JSL ready to bunk with us in our king sized bed. He was so tired, but wanted to play on the big bed. JL helped to get him ready with me.

Time for cream, PJ's and bed!

JSL quickly fell asleep, along with his Daddy. One stayed in a single spot, the other rolled all over the bed. As you can see while all of the boys were sleeping, I took advantage of the quiet time to knit. As I watched for ladybugs I was knitting a dragonfly cloth.

Sleeping baby and knitting - life is good

Soon after this I turned off Saturday Night Live (one can only handle so many Spitzer jokes) and went to sleep with visions and feelings of ladybugs crawling on my head.

To be continued . . . .

Ahhhh, the weekend is here

Although this weekend will be filled with way too much rain, fears of flooding and laughing at my parents (they are stuck in a snowstorm out west with my brother, sister-in-law and niece), I still love it.

The weekend is time to get things done, sleep and spend time with my boys. You know these guys

'tis my boys

JL, JSL and NHL all in a row – they are the ones that make me queen of my world.

Sure they are silly some of the time. . . .

Happy big brother ride

but they make me smile and laugh and keep the world going for moi.

When I am floating around, even a hug from each other when one is not feeling well is a wonderful thing to see.

Brotherly love

There are big hugs all around and sometimes I am the lucky recipient.

Big brother bear hug

And when I do get those special hugs and kisses, these are the hands that make me feel warm, fuzzy and loved.

The hands of boys

Date night at home with hubby

Plans here changed, but in a good way for the most part. Tonight we were going to take NHL to a hockey game. We had some free tickets and thought it would be fun. Unfortunately, the boys had other plans. Both of them were up a lot during the night, or up way too early this morning. Thanks to that and JSL possibly being sick again (*sigh*) we opted to change it up a little.

I was able to get some really great movies at the library Friday, so we opted to stay in the warmish house, watch Harry Potty and The Order of the Phoenix and test out my new Whirly Pop.

On that note the popcorn is ready and JL is putting the movie in. Now here’s to hoping that the boys behave!

Weekend Wanderings and Photos (Feb. 1-3)

The weekend began early here in AngelLand. Friday we woke up to reports of a horrible ice storm starting just around the time I would need to pick NHL up from school. I opted to keep him home and let him rest. So NHL, JSL and I had a fun filled PJ day and stayed out of the icy mess. In addition to watching Noggin, NHL spent part of the day showing me how to use certain games on his Smart Cycle. Here are some photos from when he was pedaling up a storm.

Pretending to ignore Mommy

After several photos were taken I received the following response from NHL:

STOP with the camera already!

Friday night both of the boys were tired and went to bed early. Here they are when they were actually sleeping in their own beds. *sigh* Unfortunately it was a long night with both of them up several times.

Tired boy with his flannel blankies

Oh no . . . the pillows ate his bed!

Saturday morning JL and I were walking, talking zombies! At around noon my parents called. They wanted to see if the boys would like to spend the afternoon with them. This way JL and I could head out to lunch and shop alone. Of course we jumped at this chance and got the troops ready to head out. JL and I had a yummy lunch at Panera (with a gift card I had) and then went shopping at Super Walmart. We needed some items that only they carried. We picked up a huge Rubbermaid tub to put our meat pots away in since we use them less than once a week. I also bought some more cotton yarn and also bought some flannel for new pillow cases for our bed.   (Thanks again Mom & Dad!)

When we were done we brought our things home and went back to my parents house. Both boys devoured lunch, but JSL apparently would not take a bottle. He played with it, but refused it and attacked my  chest upon return. So I think I will buy a Nubby sippy cup to have him try for emergency situations when I am not there to nurse. After JSL nursed we went with my parents to walk around the mall. The boys were getting very tired so we went to get NHL dinner on the way home. He ate and went to bed. Thankfully both of the boys slept through the night Saturday. While they were in bed I finished up my second washcloth. This is the one for NHL.

NHL's Washcloth

NHL was shocked to see it was done when he woke up early Sunday morning. We all were up at that point and had breakfast. JSL fell back asleep. This changed the plans. He slept and then we all went to Michaels for NHL to select yarn. After seeing JSL’s scarf he wanted me to make him one as well. I wanted him to pick it out since he is old enough. We got the yarn and then went running all over the place on errands. We had lunch out (kids eat free Sunday at Moe’s) and bought a Crock Pot at Kohls at over 50% off to replace our parve one that kicked the bucket. We then came home so I could nurse JSL.

While nursing JSL I noticed blood on his face. I mentioned it to JL and then realized I was the one bleeding. Lucky me, I had a blister from a certain teething monkey in a rather sensitive location for a nursing mother. the blister finally cut open. This was painful by the end of the evening so I put something on it and hoped it would help (it is much better this morning).

JL then went out with JSL for a little while. NHL did not want to leave and stayed home with me. He played with Play Doh and I played with yarn! I had to figure out how many stitches to cast on for his camouflage scarf. It took me two tries, but I finally got it right. This is NHL having a blast with Play Doh time:

Trying to see if it needed more Play Doh

A closer look at this fun:

Time to make Play Doh sprinkles

JL spent a lot of time chopping veggies up, making pizza and things for the Super Bowl. The funny thing is we hardly watched any of the game or commercials. We did tune in at the end just in time to see the Giants win – we were floored! Should make for an interesting training camp for the team this summer.

When both of the boys were in bed we worked on moving the meat pots out of the kitchen and I did some knitting. Here is what NHL selected as presented by a special Muppet and the progress from yesterday:

Camo Scarf for NHL begins

So far I am pretty impressed with how the camouflage pattern is working out. I was not too sure how it would look. I did about 6 1/2 inches and then went to bed. Then the wake up calls began. NHL was up at 2-ish and woke up JSL. JSL would not resettle and NHL wanted one of us with him. I was asked to go with NHL (his request) and JL had JSL in our bed. It was a long evening that ended with JL ignoring the alarm for an HOUR and then all of us rushing.

On that note I am off to do some organizing and purging of things while JSL sleeps.

I hope everyone else had a wonderful weekend whether or not you watched the Super Bowl.
