Chanukah 2010 with family

Dear NHL and JSL,

Tonight we went to Nana and Papa’s house. We decided to have Chanukah dinner there over the weekend so we did not have to worry about school or work the next day. The two of you were so excited because you knew that Mimi and Aunt T were going to be there.

As soon as Mimi and Aunt T arrived, the two of you were busy showing them your Chanukah presents from last night. The photo of the two of you was priceless. Of course, the timing of the gift was rather magical given the news that we received earlier in the day. Yes, we are going to see Mickey and friends thanks to the Disney Social Media Moms Conference.

Dinner was delicious. Nana made pierogies (favorite for both of you), along with latkes, veggies, tilapia, sour cream, and apple sauce. When dinner was over, both of you played. Then it was time to light the candles and exchange some presents. The two of you made out quite well. Toy Story 3 DVD, Bed Bugs game (UGH – Nana was trying to be funny with that one), a new Mario DS game, and Handy Manny game for the iXL.

Once we were finished with dessert, we all went into the living room to watch Shalom Sesame. This DVD was all about Chanukah and being in Israel. When it was over, it was time to head home since you were both exhausted. Here are a few photos from the evening on my new camera.

Chanukah Party 2010

It truly was a fun evening with our extended family (of course I wish more family had been here). I hope the two of you cherish these times as much as I do.

Love,

Mommy

2010 Halloween Memories

This year, the boys had a lot of fun doing different things for Halloween. After being sick last year, anything was a huge improvement. Friday night, we went to NHL’s school for a party. The boys had a great time playing games, seeing people, and making some goodies.

Saturday, it was time to carve our first family pumpkin. Little did I know, it was also the first EVER pumpkin that TechyDad had carved. I was floored since I had so many memories of carving pumpkins with my family when I was little. Here are a few photos about this experience. TechyDad wrote more about it on his blog today.

Pumpkin Carving

On Halloween, we took the boys to the mall for a short time to get some trick-or-treating done. Thanks to the weather, we were not sure how much we would all want to do outside. The boys had fun, but were getting tired from walking in the crowds.

Taking a quick rest

After this, we went back home and then to Nana and Papa’s house. We stayed there to play for a little while and then went to a few of their neighbors before heading back home to see some people here.

Trick-or-Treating Time

Then, it was time to head back into the warmer house, take costumes off, eat dinner, and wait for a few trick-or-treaters to come. Before we knew it, we turned out lights off and called it a night. Lots of memories made and two very happy little boys.

P.S. This is also serving as my entry in the SITs Girls Halloween Giveaway. Thanks for the fun ladies!

Getting ready for Halloween 2010

Dear NHL and JSL,

The two of you are so excited about Halloween this year. Since you were both sick a year ago, we did not have a lot of celebrating to do. Last night, we went to the school Halloween party. The two of you got dressed in your costumes and were ready to go in minutes.

Off to the Halloween Party

When we got there, you both ran to the doors of the gym. Once inside, you were in love with all of the fun games to play. Of course, the prizes in the end were also a nice perk.

Halloween Party Fun

Then, after some pizza and a radioactive looking drink, you both decorated a pumpkin. JSL was so proud of his work.

Proud little Tigger

Today, we decided to carve our pumpkin. When it was time to do it, only JSL was really excited. Of course, that changed you were asked to touch the pumpkin guts. This was the first pumpking that we have carved (more about that soon).

Pumpkin Carving Time

Lots more fun coming tomorrow. I can not wait to watch the two of you trick-or-treating together, the way it always should be.

Love,

Mommy

Lazy kind of weekend

Sometimes, it is just nice to have a lazy weekend. No real need to go to a location, just sit at home and do things with your family. That was this weekend. I should feel energized, but I think it has allowed my mind to race a little too much about the events for this week.

Yesterday, TechyDad, NHL, JSL and I all stayed in our pajamas. Why yes, it was a glorious day of just doing things around the house and not getting dressed. We started the morning off with some warm, delicious biscuits for breakfast. After that, TechyDad had a bit of the cleaning bug. He organized the kitchen (had to be done for apple baking), cleaned the bathroom, and then helped me to move the couch to get some monster dust bunnies that had escaped.

After lunch, the boys played a new game that TechyDad received to review. There was a lot of laughing, giggling, and strategy going on. While they did that, I opted to get a head start on sorting, cutting, and bagging Box Tops for Education. As the coordinator in NHL’s school, the November 1st deadline is coming quickly. This is what sat in front of me.

Box Tops Galore

A bit daunting at first. The nice part, I was able to listen to a lot of The Help on my MP3 player while I did this project.

So how many Box Tops do you think are here?

Now to bag by 50's

In the end, there were 620 in that pile alone. It all adds up and will go to good use at school. So, if you have any extra Box Tops for Education and do not have a school to donate them to, just let me know.

The boys also watched Disney’s Alice in Wonderland, then we had dinner and the kids went to sleep.

Today, NHL went to Hebrew School. TechyDad went with JSL to the grocery store to get some items for the week. Then he came home and put up a crock pot of applesauce. After lunch, I was upset about frogging a knitting project and did not feel too well. I took a nap while TechyDad made some apple muffins.

Sometimes, you just need a slow weekend at home to catch up on family time.

So what did you do this weekend before Halloween?

Fun autumn day at the amusement park

The temperature here has shifted drastically in recent weeks. Frost and more will soon be in our future. Thanks to this, we have been trying to get outside and enjoy the nice weather as much as possible. Sunday, we decided to head to The Great Escape to utilize our season passes at least on more time. We had not been there since June 19th. That was the day that NHL was hurt on a ride. In case you are wondering, no Six Flags has NOT called back about the incident. I have e-mailed, called, and sent Tweets numerous times. Leaves me very confused and upset as a Season Pass holder of this park.

*sigh*

Needless to say, NHL would not go back on the ride where he was injured (can not say I really blame him ). There were not a lot of characters out during the day. The park is clearly running on low staff during the fall season. Still we did see at least one familiar face:

Tweety Angel

We had a fantastic time going on a lot of rides with almost no wait. Note the special pink DisneySMMoms jacket that I am wearing to keep warm. There were a lot of smiles and memories made. Here are just a few of them:

Great Escape fun October 2010

With any luck we may be able to head up there one more time this season. If not, we can look at all of the photos from the trips we have had this year. Season passes for next year, still up for debate.
