Destination Romantic Disney Dreaming

I have a bad case of the Disney blues. You see, ten years ago in June, we had our amazing honeymoon at Walt Disney World. TechyDad and I were spoiled rotten and had the most magical experience on that trip. We stayed at the Beach Club Resort for 10 magical days. Beach Club Resort - June 2001

We decided to go all out and stayed at a deluxe resort. We wanted to be near Epcot so we could dine around the world and at the Boardwalk. They upgraded our room when they heard we were on our honeymoon. Check out the view from our balcony:

We had a deluxe dining plan and also had the ability to do tours with our package. We did several behind the scene tours, ate at Spoodles, Le Cellier (several times with same day reservations – *gasp*), Chef Mickey, Crystal Palace, and saw Cirque du Soleil’s La Nouba. This was when I made TechyDad a believer. He quickly saw the magic of a Walt Disney World vacation. He was able to see that it is not simply for families with children. It is a place where you can be with your spouse and have plenty of romantic moments. It is a location to wine and dine, be a kid, and enjoy magical memories together. It is a destination that you can visit over and over and still not see everything. So many people do not understand and I am ok with this. I am just lucky TechyDad gets it and so do friends like Amy. She just got back from a 10th anniversary trip to Walt Disney World with her husband. Before leaving, she wrote a post about romantic Disney with quotes from me included.

So why am I writing about this? Well, you see TechyDad and I are toying with doing something that is unlike us. We are talking about putting us first and getting away without the boys. Yes, we are debating a 10th anniversary trip to Walt Disney World. Sure, we have been since our honeymoon, but not just the two of us. In fact, the only time we have been away without the boys was to BlogHer last year in NYC. This would be a trip for us, not in the name of Social Media (imagine that).

We won’t be staying at the Beach Club Resort this time, but it will still be a magical vacation for just the two of us. Now, we just have to check a few more items and figure out child care. The boys can probably stay with TechyDad’s parents, but they have never done that without us before. A lot of things are on my mind, but dreaming and making this into a reality is making me smile.

If you have any suggestions on romantic meals or other places to visit as a couple at Disney World, I would love to hear about it. A lot has changed in ten years.

So, please excuse me for a little while. I need to dream a little more about the possibility of a romantic getaway to the most magical place with my amazing husband. We need this for us and our family.

More Summer Sleep Needed

Dear NHL and JSL,

We need to talk. The summer is here and the sun is out a lot later. Daddy and I would love to let you stay up to enjoy the extra hours of daylight.

There is a problem though. Although you will go to sleep at night and typically stay asleep…you wake up WAY too early the next morning.

Sleeping While AwayNo matter when you go to sleep at night, you are both up almost as soon as the sun comes up. NHL, we can almost count on you being up before the alarm clock goes off at 6:00 each morning. Daddy needs to get up for work, but you are really allowed to sleep to 7, even 8 if you would. JSL may sleep a little later, but not by a lot. Most mornings you are up by 7.

Lack of naps, lots going on, and less sleep is starting to show up with behaviors that are not so nice. So let’s make a deal. If we let you stay up later to play at night with Daddy and enjoy the extra hours of sun, you will try to sleep in. Ok?!

Love,

Mommy

Stop Distracted Driving

Recently, something has really been bothering me. I have seen a lot of other drivers in their cars with cell phone to their ears and/or texting. They are not stopped at lights. No, they are driving. Not only is this dangerous, but illegal in New York State. Yes, it is illegal to text while driving and you must have a hands free device IF you talk on your cell phone.

Accidents happen with normal distractions and circumstances. We don’t need other items to be there. I can not imagine any call or text being so important that your life or another person’s is worth it. Of course, if you must, pull your car over and do what you need in a safe manner.

Sorry, I just had to vent since I have been seeing more and more people in their cars doing this. So to lighten it up a bit and send home the message I give you this PSA message from Cars 2

So my question to you this week:

Does the state that you live in have laws about talking on the cell phone or texting while driving? What do you think about laws like the ones we have in NYS?

Nobody asked me to write this post, it is just something that has been on my mind for a while and I wanted to hear what others were thinking about the subject.

Getting Ready For the Holidays in July

As I mentioned the other day, we often try to get my niece, nephew, and two boys for a photo together for our family members. As you know, that quest is often a comedy of errors. You would think that it would get easier, when you are trying to do this with only two children.

Insert extreme laughter, sarcasm, and rolling eyes here!

Yes, I will admit it. Since we had the kids, we actually start to think about Christmas cards long before December hits. When Global Influence and Storkie asked me to participate in a post about Christmas in July, it made me laugh. By Halloween, we begin to talk about a photo shoot with the kids. What should they wear, when should we do it, and the list of options goes on.

Then, we inevitably forget about time and it is nearly Thanksgiving. TechyDad and I start to talk about things, we agree to photo cards.

The clock is ticking as December is suddenly here. Some years, Chanukah has already begun before my birthday which is early in the month. This is about when we really start to panic. Yes, we need to get cracking. Photos must be taken, cards ordered, and then ship them out.

The photo shoot itself is usually full of stressful, but fun laughter. The boys get silly and we keep snapping away until we hope that we have at least one photo to work.

My silly boys during photo shoot

Once the kids are asleep, TechyDad and I sit at the computer and toss out a lot of the pictures. Once we find THE one, we have to agree on a card. Since we are Jewish and a lot of friends celebrate Christmas, we opt to make New Years cards. This is also a nice way of being able to drag out the process a little longer and not being late.

2011 Internet Holiday Card

So, admission time here. How are you about getting your holiday cards ready to send to family and friends? It may only be July now, but before you know it the holidays will be here.
