Shutterfly Best Gift Ever and Giveaway

Disclosure: I wrote this post for Shutterfly as part of a Global Influence campaign. I will be receiving a 16oz Stainless Steel Travel Mug and shipping  as compensation for participating. Shutterfly is also supplying the same item for the winner of the giveaway below.

TechyDad and our boysHow do you tell someone all that they mean to you? This is something that many of us often take for granted. I have to admit that I am probably one of those people, especially with TechyDad.

TechyDad and I have been married for almost 12 year and all but two of them have included our boys. Not only does my husband go to work each and every day to provide for our family, he does so much more. He is a supportive husband who did not question my desire to leave the classroom to stay home with our boys. TechyDad is a fantastic father. He loves to play with the boys and expand their horizons in all of the items that he enjoys. Watching the boys all geek out together is priceless. In addition to this, my husband is also my webmaster and 99% of the time he is our cook (he enjoys it – go figure).

TechyDad loves to take photos. When we go out and about, he almost always has his camera in hand. Macro photos and now experimenting on his SLR camera mean we have lots of pictures. The funny thing, he does not have many updated photos of our family at work on his desk.

Over the years, we have purchased items from Shutterfly, including personalized gifts for our kids and other members of the extended family. I loved that they are meaningful and show a but more TLC when selecting the item. Right now, I would love to get TechyDad a mug for tea or a desk top plaque with new photos that he will cherish. Of course, I could also sit down with the boys and make him a new personalized photobook filled with memories (we have made Shutterfly books for the boys before).

With Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and Graduation season among us, we can look at the fun personalized gift options available via the Shutterfly Best Gift Ever page.

Disney in December

Although I have been to Walt Disney World countless time, I have never been during a major holiday season. For our honeymoon, we purposely left after ten days right before July 4th. I have always dreamed of seeing the parks during the Halloween months with pumpkins and fall decorations. Although we celebrate Chanukah, I do love looking at Christmas lights. I have always been fascinated with the colors, lights, and festive look at Walt Disney World this time of year. In less than a week, I will be able to see it myself. TechyDad was invited to a media event for official opening of the New Fantasyland and I am going with him. So, until that time, here is my made up December calendar shot thanks to a little magic from PicMonkey.

Magical Disney Honeymoon Moments

Did you know that, before we got married, TechyDad had never been to Walt Disney World? I know that I find it hard to believe. Eleven years later, he is now a true blue Disney fan who can talk your ear off about planning a Disney vacation.

LEGO Lion at Downtown Disney

At the time, I took it for granted watching my new husband taking it all in. Way back then, I insisted on taking my film camera and not TechyDad’s first generation digital camera. Now, I wish we had taken more photos of his first time in front of the castle, first time in front of Spaceship Earth, and other special moments. Sad to say, there were no PhotoPass photographers back during this time period. Luckily, some people along the way made sure that we stopped to get some photos together. Here we are painting an animation cell the old fashioned way.

Paining on Animation Tour

During our honeymoon, we had many Disney firsts together. We went on several behind the scene tours, saw our first Cirque du Soleil (La Nouba), and explored Disney’s Animal Kingdom together. It truly was a magical time and we knew it when taking a boat back to the Beach Club Resort and saw this beautiful rainbow. It really was a sign.

Our Disney honeymoon was also the first time that we bough matching shirts. It kind of started a tradition of wearing them on our last day in the parks.

Matcing Disney Shirts on our honeymoon

While I adore going to Disney World with the boys and other family members, there is just something extra special about an adult only get away there. Spending time with your spouse roaming the streets of World Showcase, not fighting over who gets to sit next to you at dinner, and just relaxing while being a kid at heart.

Have you ever gone to a Disney Park without your children?

My Viking Family Experience – #DragonsLive

Right now my brain is whirling around and I feel like I am flying. Flying with dragons, of course, so it is a good thing. Thanks to just getting back from an amazing time at the DreamWorks How to Train Your Dragon Live Spectacular at the Times Union Center. TechyDad was contacted by PR from the show and he shared some of the specifics about it recently. After watching the movie with the boys the other day, I was excited to see what the VIP Hero’s Welcome would be all about. As JSL (5) says, it was stupendous!

VIP Entrance - How to Train Your Dragon Live Show

A huge thank you to the amazing VIP tour gentleman who was stationed outside. He was fantastic chatting with us and answering questions from our boys. He told us about previous cities and more about the upcoming shows throughout North America. After this, we were whisked away into the arena before they opened for the show. We received our Hero’s Welcome badges, bags, and posters. Then, we were taken to an area to get dressed like Vikings for a family photo.

The crew helping to dress our Viking family was fantastic. We never told Papa about this part and he played along and had fun. Before long, the five of us were sporting chic Viking styles for our photo shoot.

We were not able to get a photo with our camera dressed up, but we took a quick picture of the one they gave us. Yes, I present you with my Viking family in their finest attire and all of their weapons and shields.

Although it took some time to get this done, it was a worthwhile experience. Seeing the smiles on the kids faces and knowing that memories were being made was priceless. After we returned our Viking items to the bins, it was time to wait for the official Hero’s Welcome. We went a small area with seats to wait and meet Hiccup and Astrid who are some of the stars from the show.

Astrid and Hiccup - How to Train Your Dragon Live Tour

This was just the start of an amazing adventure with the Vikings and Dragons. More coming soon about the show and the Dragons 101 session after the performance. The session after was a geeks dream come true and the VIP team member from this part was also super (wish I could recall his name from the 11:00 am show). If you are in the Capital District and have a chance to see the show before it leaves town, I highly recommend it. It will also be touring to many other cities in the United States and Canada in the months ahead.

If you are interested in attending a show, you can find tour dates and tickets by going to http://www.dreamworksdragonslive.com/tickets.php.  You can also save 25% off the cost of select seats by using the promo code "MOM". Oh and do not forget to think about the VIP packages that you can add on for your family. All of the items seen above were thanks to that.
