The Big Leagues – according to CityStreams

CityStreams tagged me for a meme. The history of this meme, according to CS, means that  I am in the big leagues of blogging. Thank you for the compliment CS – back at ya! So here is my take on this, followed by the people I will tag.

What were you doing ten years ago?
In the spring of 1998 I was attending a community college after leaving pharmacy school. I finally had the guts to say I hated it there and wanted to follow my dream of teaching. I took that semester to fix a class that I needed to help me switch career paths and schools for the fall of ’98.

What are five things on your to-do list?
1. Get some sleep.
2. Finish shopping for items for JSL’s 1st birthday party on Sunday.
3. Purchase a gift for Mimi (my grandmother) to give to give to JSL.
4. Make Mother’s Day cards – the ones at the store were picked over weeks ago.
5. Find time to knit and read. . . and do the other 20 items on my to-do list!

What are five snacks you enjoy?
1. Graham crackers and low fat whipped cream      2. Cheese sticks     3. Trail mix       4. Yogurt          5. Granola bars (love the cherry and dark chocolate ones by Kashi).

Name some things you would do if you were a millionaire.

Pay off loans, buy a larger house in a better school district, help family fix up their house, get JL a new car, bring our entire family on a Disney World vacation (including a cruise) and invest for the future. The investing and saving for the boys for college is a must.

Name some places you have lived.
I have only lived in three places – 1. With my parents at their house.  2. Apartment that JL and I had when we were first married.  3. The small little house that we are currently living in.

Name some bad habits you have.
I am not good at making decisions. In addition to this I am able to live among the world of clutter that is my house. It is very organized clutter, but clutter. We are working on this because it is starting to become an issue when we want to have people over.

Name some jobs you have had.
I worked at my father’s baseball card store, pharmacy technician, cashier at a grocery store, test corrector for an educational company, assistant manager at a teacher store, and teacher.

Name those whom you are tagging.
Laura, Renee, and Elaine. I would list a bunch of others, but my brain is fried and I must go and attempt to cross #1 off my to-do list. Please know I have a ton of others that I would include – so if you want to consider yourself tagged. Please leave a comment here if you participate so I can be sure to read.

7 Facts About Moi

Candi from ~~All Day Night~~ tagged me for a new meme that CityStreams had previously tagged me with and I never had time to do it. So girls here ya go!

I am trying to come up with some new things that I did not use for the 8 Things About Moi version that I had done way back in October.

Rules are:
1. Link to your tagger and post these rules on your blog.
2. Share 7 facts about yourself on your blog, some random, some weird.
3. Tag 7 people at the end of your post by leaving their names as well as links to their blogs.
4. Let them know they are tagged by leaving a comment on their blog.

Here are some things about moi. . . .

1 – Suddenly I am quite the wash cloth knitting addict. I can not stop making the things. I think I like them because they are quick and easy to do and they do not cost an arm and a leg. One of these days I will branch out more into hats and mittens – not too interested in making socks (sorry Laura).

Gumdrop DW Cloth

Pretty yarn!

Furry Red Monster - Wash Cloth

More cotton yarn

2 – When JL moved here to live with me (when we were engaged before our wedding) the deal was that I would keep a kosher kitchen for him. So no shellfish in this house and no yummy chicken parm making here  *sigh*  Thanks to this we have two sets of dishes (dairy and meat) and have to label watch to make sure things are kosher for consumption at Chez Moi! I will not even mention the Passover dishes which need to come out WAY too soon for my liking.

3 – I am very bummed about not being able to make it to my Cousin M’s wedding in a few short weeks. Back when Cousin D got married JL promised me that we would head west for M’s when she got married. Unfortunately things do not always work out as planned. So down the road we will plan a trip out to see Cousin M and B and check out all of the fun things by them. Disneyland anyone????

4 – Shocking as it may seem I have NEVER seen a Harry Potter movie in the theater. All have been viewed at home on DVD. A pregnancy, birth or other random item has always messed up going out for the experience (we will not even factor in the price part). One of my students used to laugh at me over this fact and thought it was hilarious that I was reading one of the books when my water broke with NHL.

5 – My husband is screwed for Valentine’s Day. Keep your mind’s out of the gutter people!  As I was saying, I do not like chocolate and I do not like to watch flowers die . . . talk about a waste of money in my mind. I love the fact that I still have the bouquet from my wedding and the flowers that were on my chuppah that I was married under.

6 – I love having two boys. Although I will not be able to take a daughter to buy a wedding dress, there are some big perks. Daddy will need to take them both to the bathroom in a few years. There will be no need to buy them feminine hygiene products. Only one person in the house with PMS. Weddings will not cost us as much. Boy clothing seems to be a lot less expensive. Not a lot of jewels to make boys happy. Man I could go on and on!

'tis my boys

7 – I am still debating what to do about next year. This is the season to put resumes out for teaching in the fall, but I do not know if it is the best thing for our family now. Right now the boys need me, so I am thinking and looking at other options that I can do while home with them.

Tag . . . you are it to:

Laura of Laura’s Online Blog

Sandy of Welcome to My So-Called Life

Kim of  • ancora imparo •

Nancy of It’s All About Me

Renee of Life With My Special Ks

Kailani of An Island Life

Shawna of Airing Dirty Laundry

Feel free to do this or not do it and add yourself to this list too if I did not include you. Link to your facts on my comments to share with everyone if/when you do this meme.  BTW – Since Easter is tomorrow for all of the people I am tagging I am not pestering you with a note about being tagged in your comments. You will see this here or the linky love that will show up.

8 Random Things about Moi

So, I’ve been tagged  by Laura

Here are the rules…you list 8 random things about you and then tag a few other people to do it, with links to their blog..and leave a comment tht they’ve been tagged…so, here are my 8 random things

1) I met JL (my hubby) online. I was doing research online for school and didn’t realize I had gone into a chat room. Something caught my eye that he said and I looked at his profile. Thanks to that (" Nice Jewish boy looking for a nice Jewish girl" ) I sent him an instant message. We had a long distance relationship for quite some time before he moved here a year before our wedding.

2) Before becoming a teacher I went to pharmacy school for 2 1/2 miserable years. Even when I was planning on becoming a pharmacist I wanted to teach. I just finally realized I did NOT like the school I was at and braved telling my parents what I really wanted to do.

3) While in college I had season tickets for our local AHL hockey team. I used to travel all around the place with friends to games and met a lot of really great people that way.

4) I lived across the street from a hockey player (was on the team I had tickets for above) for a few seasons. I did not realize he was there right away until I saw some of the other now NHL players there. He was only a few months older than I was at the time – away from Russia in this strange country. One snowy day my friend and I baked cookies for him and delivered them. We felt bad that he was all alone when he seemed to want to join the two of us and my brother goofing off in the snow (remember I was in college). When we went to his door he opened it up and was barely wearing anything. HELLO!  We seriously never knew if he had more than the t-shirt that was VERY short on.

5) Once I was a Secret Pal to two of my cousins. My younger cousin B grew up with me sending her random notes and things until she was SO old and I finally came clean about who it was. I also had a secret e-mail account that I used for my other cousin M where I wrote her. I’m not sure if she ever knew it was me sending her little hellos and things.

6) We are going to see the Wiggles soon with NHL. We have front row tickets!!!! It’s a special mommy and daddy night out with just him. Nana and Papa will be watching JSL for the night.

7) JL and I just started counting points with Weight Watchers. I had to do it since nursing seems to make me SO hungry and I was not making the best choices. I had lost a lot of weight when I was pregnant (pregnancy is a great yet expensive weight loss plan), but it has slowly come back over the last 5 months. Last time we did it when NHL was about 8 months old. JL lost 80 pounds and I lost 50 pounds. Then we got lazy and stopped counting points. In addition to this I started teaching full time and there were WAY too many yummy things in the faculty room the second year. The first year I was good and never went there much. In addition to that we had the scares with NHL not walking.

8) I learned to knit when I was really young. I haven’t done a lot of it recently. Thanks to bad wrists I am itching to try to crochet. I just found out that my grandmother doesn’t knit, she crochets. I never looked. Had I paid closer attention I would have noticed she didn’t have two needles and was in fact using a hook. So she and my aunt have said that they will try to teach me how. YAHOO!

So here are my tags (you can feel free to be party poopers and not do this, but it’s neat to learn things):

Sandy  –> I know Laura already did it, but I want to anyway

Nancy –> She’s one of the people that made me want to blog from the start.

Airing Dirty Laundry –> My new Swaparooni buddy so I can learn more about her.

C’est Moi
