Cousin Photo Quest – Summer 2011

As anyone with children knows, getting photos can be tricky. I can not even imagine a world without digital cameras, where you can click away and not worry about wasting money printing a roll of film with perhaps three good shots out of all of them. Of course, the more children you add into a photo quest, the more “interesting” it can get.

When we gather together with my brother and his family, we always try to get some photos of the four kids. This has become the running joke in the family because the kids are getting older and have their own agenda these days.

Trying to get all of the kids into an area can be tricky. We may snag three of the four like this:

3/4 of the kids

Meanwhile, the little guy was off running around. Eventually, he figured what was going on and went to the other kids:

Time to get the other kids

Then, when they finally all get into the same picture frame, it’s quick motion with everyone doing something a little different:

Swing time together

Here is the perfect example of everyone being together, but four different agendas at the same time. At a certain point you just realize it is not going to happen.

All 4 at Niagara Falls

Of course, I can not complain when we get a beautiful photo of three of the four kids when it captures a wonderful memory of something like Niagara Falls.

Still, it is rather nice to capture a moment when all four cousins are playing nicely together.

Playing well together

No, they may not be looking at the camera, but it sure does show how well they get along during the summer of 2011. Thanks for the memories kids!

Shrinky Dink Memories

Dear NHL and JSL,

The other day we went to the craft event at our library. I had heard that it was going to be something very different for the two of you. It was not new to me. No, Shrinky Dinks were part of my childhood. Yes, I remember making countless Shrinky Dinks with kids and later jewelry items.

When we got there the two of you had NO idea what I was talking about. You heard that it was time to draw on this strange paper, but never knew how special it truly was.

NHL, you decided to do a windmill first. Then, I drew you a big circle to fill in with something special to you. You drew the Tree of Life from Animal Kingdom. Sad to say that your first Tree of Life had a Shrinky Dink melt down and would not flatten back out. The librarian was nice and suggested that you try again, so you did.

NHL concentrates

JSL, you saw a ship and immediately declared that it was a pirate ship. I helped you to trace that so you could color it in. Then you took random colors for a modern creation in a circle.

Here are your final items. Each circle was a pendant and the other made into a magnet.

Shrinky Dink Fun

We all had such a fun time that I knew we had to find more Shrinky Dinks to make at home. So while at Michaels the other day, I bought this to test out:

Shrinky Dinks fun for home

I can not wait to have more Shrinky Dink adventures with the two of you.

Love,

Mommy

Crafty Start To Summer 2011

Thursday morning, I was not sure what I was going to do with the boys. Then, I saw something in my Google Feed Reader from A Frugal Friend. Thanks to Debra, I realized that Michael’s is offering a Passport to Fun Kid’s Event all summer long. I know I had received e-mails about it, but had likely ignored them. So we ran out of the house to Michael’s.

The Passport to Fun book looks amazing. It is filled with great items about each of the places that you will visit during an activity at Michael’s this summer. Coming up this weekend is one for the United States on July 2 for Independence Day.

So where did we visit? We went to Canada. Quite fitting since today is Canada Day. Happy Canada Day to all of my friends to the north.

You probably want to know what they made, eh? Here are the Canadian inspired crafts that were shown to us:

The boys had a great time. The craft itself was cute and should have been really easy to do, but the glue was not behaving. Luckily we were patient and got the pipe cleaner to stay put for the Moose antlers.

Here’s the page from the Passport book about Canada and NHL’s finished project:

Oh Canada

The remaining events are always 11am – 2pm:

  • U.S.A. – Saturday, July 2
  • Italy – Tuesday, July 5
  • Australia – Thursday, July 7
  • India – Saturday, July 9
  • Russia – Tuesday, July 12
  • France – Thursday, July 14
  • United Kingdom, July 16
  • Japan – Tuesday, July 19
  • Greece – Thursday, July 21
  • Mexico – Saturday, July 23
  • China – Tuesday, July 26
  • South Africa – Thurday July 28
  • Brazil – Saturday, July 30
We missed the ones for Sweden, Germany, Egypt, and Bahamas. I know we will try to catch more of these events and others taking place this summer. Of course, while at Michael’s we picked up something to do on our own that was inspired by a craft at the Library’s event earlier in the week. More to come on that tomorrow.
Pssst….I thought this was cool and wanted to share. I have been given nothing by Michael’s since this is a free event for all. Just a big craft fan and love their store. For more on the summer program you can go –> here!

So my question for you this week:

What country would you have added to the Passport and why?

Pssst . . . be sure to stop by TechyDad’s Outback Steakhouse $45 giveaway.

ZooKeeper Screening for Capital District

The summer is here and there is a constant stream of movies starting in the theaters. I have noticed a lot of them are geared for families with younger children. One of the movies coming out next Friday, July 8, 2011 is ZooKeeper featuring Kevin James.

Here is a trailer about the movie:

More about the movie from the PR agency:

In Zookeeper, the animals at the Franklin Park Zoo love their kindhearted caretaker, Griffin Keyes (Kevin James). Finding himself more comfortable with a lion than a lady, Griffin decides the only way to get a girl in his life is to leave the zoo and find a more glamorous job. The animals, in a panic, decide to break their time-honored code of silence and reveal their biggest secret: they can talk! To keep Griffin from leaving, they decide to teach him the rules of courtship – animal style. The film also stars Rosario Dawson and Leslie Bibb and features the voices of Cher, Nick Nolte, Adam Sandler, and Sylvester Stallone.

Rated PG for some rude and suggestive humor, and language.

If you live in the Capital District area and would like the opportunity to go to a screening of ZooKeeper, here is your chance. The first 40 people to go to GOFOBO.com will receive the opportunity for two people to go to a screening at Colonie Center on July 6, 2011. Here is the information that you will need. Remember these passes will go quickly, so do not wait too long.

GOFOBO - ZooKeeper

If you get the tickets and go, please let me know. We may also attend. I would also love to know what you think after seeing the movie. I have a feeling this will be a movie that both of my boys will enjoy

TheAngelForever

Disclosure: I was asked by the PR company from ZooKeeper to share this opportunity with my local readers. I received no compensation for doing so. I was told that I could print passes for my family and we hope to attend the screening as well.
