Super Baby goes THUD

Friday night was rough. As previously mentioned the little guy is teething constantly again. JSL was fussing a lot during the night and I was in pain. I think I may have dislocated my shoulder. After getting up several time, JSL wound up in our bed. NHL woke up too early for us (his usual time though). I asked JL to take NHL to the other room to play or rest on the couch so I could nurse the baby and maybe he would go back to sleep.

The little guy was really miserable. He nursed a little and then wanted to settle. We were both in my queen sized bed and I forgot to move pillows on the other side since he was right next to me

Can you see where I am going here?

*sigh*  (BAD Mommy)

I must have fallen asleep and a certain 8 month old clearly did not. Next thing I know I heard a horrible THUD.

I shot up out of bed and immediately freaked out. I saw the baby was NOT with me in bed. Then instantly I heard him screaming from the floor. I screamed for JL who was sleeping on the couch. He came flying to the room and we picked JSL up to assess him.

I think he was more scared than anything about what had happened – all of the fuss and what not. Within 10-15 minutes he was not crying. Nope, the little monkey was creeping all over the bed after our remote, chatting with Daddy and sitting up to play.

I felt so guilty and like a horrible mommy. I called my mother who is out visiting my brother and his family. I flipped her out to the point that she had to put my niece down and was in tears (sorry Mom). This was obviously not the intention of my call and made me feel worse.Thankfully JSL seemed fine the rest of the day. He wanted to play, try cruising on the side of the couch (and he fell again), and chat up a storm.

With all of the excitement this morning we took naps this afternoon (Mommy forced NHL into his bed and stayed with him until we both conked out). Meanwhile JL cleaned up some as JSL slept in his highchair. He started to fuss some so they went to the couch together. A while later NHL woke up and went to the couch to find the other boys asleep. This is what happened next:

My sleeping boys

For a little boy that was not tired he wanted to cuddle right back up with Daddy and JSL.

NHL joined the couch late

The following is the look I received after a few too many flashes of my camera.

I don't want to be awake

Soon everyone was up and much happier than before.

Go back to sleep - close your eyes

Soon after this Mommy went out for a girls night with my friend H. Her husband J went with JL and the boys out. More on this later :)  Now I must sleep since it is very late and no doubt one of the children will be up way too early.

Baby Booby Biter

JSL is 8 month old today and apparently wants Mommy to think about weaning him (not very seriously – so no need to worry). He is definitely experimenting with his new upper chompers. Unfortunately, the recipients of said experimentation are my poor boobs.

*OUCH*

I try not to react too much and tell him "no bite" when he does it, but now the little monster sweetheart is smiling and starting to laugh. Thanks to this I pull him off and end the nursing session. He has not nursed a lot and is refusing to eat solids today, my guess we have more of those pesky teeth trying to move in.

I guess it is a good thing the little guy is cute. Certainly a defense mechanism for him over the last 24 hours with 6+ bites.

Hopefully he will get the memo and stop this so we can both continue with the nursing routine sans biting!

Lots of Bzzzz-ing in the family

Flying insects of the stinging kind be gone!

That is the message from our family after too many of these suckers have gotten too up close and personal with us.

1 – Friday while while my parents were visiting my brother and his wife they went apple picking. They apparently got some bees angry and one stung my mother.

2 – Yesterday after shopping at BJ’s, JL was putting JSL and his carrier into the car. Suddenly he yelped and started flapping his arm. Yup, he was also stung by a bee. His arm must have blocked the path of the angry bee and  voila! Luckily he is not allergic. He just has a small welt and is very itchy this morning.

3 – Just before dinner last night I was going around opening windows since it was cool out. I had to climb up to open the kitchen window since I am vertically challenged. I opened the shade all the way and climbed up. Then I yelled to JL. I found a bee/wasp nest in the awning that is over the window with a few pesky friends right on it. GRRRR!

With some research we are not pretty sure that those stinging neighbors that are on our house are paper wasps. The nest looks just like the one pictured here on Wikipedia. In addition to the the Terminex website makes their behavior match up where other buzzing pests do not. So later this morning JL will be heading to get something to spray the nest with (at night of course) to dispose of these critters.

Hopefully the count stays at 3 and does not need an addition later.

Headache – OB Check & More Baby Photos

What a day! I woke up with the headache from hell. Nothing has helped it all day. I think kids know when you don’t feel good and automatically raise their volume. *sigh*

Then at about 9:00 I finally sucked it up and called my OB’s office because I was concerned about my bleeding and episiotomy incision. This time the incision didn’t bother me as much as it did when I had NHL, but the bleeding has gone on longer than before. I talked with a nurse who told me to come in and have it looked at. She said it should be healed up by now (almost 4 weeks), but if something is wrong it’s best to catch it now and not be stuck with it for 30+ years.

So I got JSL ready and we went in. I had to wait about 45 minutes to get in since one of the doctors had to leave to deliver a baby. So I saw the doctor that delivered NHL. He asked me who did the delivery. Then he told me that the bleeding is not my incision, it’s still my cervix and is fine. He then noted that the incision was not stitched up quite even. WTH? He was very calming and told me that it’s nothing to freak out about. He doesn’t know why, but the body will self correct this. He told me that may be why it’s suddenly bothering me. So this is definitely something I will ask the other OB about when I go back in 2 weeks for my 6 week check. So we shall see how things go, but I am anticipating a lot of pain in my future :(

Onto better things. JSL took a nice nap in his Pack N’ Play today. . . very nice for mommy not to have to hold him and nice for the headache. It gave me time to work on 22 thank you notes (note I already sent out over 25 before just to my students and co-workers). Here is a picture of him sleeping:

To prove that the little guy does open his eyes. . . here are two other photos.

Here’s a photo of JSL last night watching the hockey game (well I was at least):

Now I just need to get more photos of NHL and JSL together.

I am off to help get NHL out of the tub and into bed (quiet would be nice instead of an almost 4 year old being so LOUD). He’s quite cranky tonight and could use some extra sleep.

Antibiotic 1 + Antibiotic 2 = Tired and Healing Me

Warning this is going to be a novel!

To update on my appointment from Wednesday. I went to the OB’s office on Wednesday with my mother. I fully expected to be sent directly to the hospital for IV antibiotics. My mother was mortified with how the thing looked. I don’t think she realized that I was far from exaggerating.

Much to my surprise I wasn’t sent to the hospital. The NP came to see me (since she saw it on Monday) and was shocked with how my thigh was looking. She agreed that it had centralized, but still it shouldn’t be worse and so painful after that much time on Z-Pack. Well, she had the OB on come to look at it. Her eyes bugged out of her head. She was floored. She didn’t want to try to drain it since it didn’t have a head. Instead they agreed on a VERY aggressive second antibiotic (Clindamycin)in addition to the Z-Pack. I was also given something to help with the pain and told to sit in a hot bath or hot pack the spot. I was also told to keep my appointment for Thursday with the other OB so she could see the progress and I could talk to her about the baby’s size.

My mother took me home and did one round of hot packing. Nothing happened. By Wednesday night I ached all over. My eyes were burning and I knew my temperature was going up. I had a low grade fever and my entire right leg was throbbing. I felt so sick to my stomach to boot. JL was ready to take me to the ER, but first he looked at the spot. To our shock there was a tiny little head. He went to get things to start hot packing it again. By the time he got back there was a white line, 5 more minutes it was the size of a dime. It quickly grew to be larger than 1 1/4 inch diameter (just the head. JL could actually see it pulsing!

The darn thing wouldn’t pop. I was in agony from the pressure and trying to push on it. JL was too afraid to hurt me. And to add insult to injury the little monkey in decided it was a great time to head-butt me in the cervix. After talking to my friend (who in turn talked to her friend that is in a health profession)we opted to get a needle and sterilize it. JL got it ready and I didn’t feel a thing. It exploded and with the help of three total needle pricks and an hour of work it was drained for the first time. We bandaged it up and I was able to sleep sort of well. By 4:00 I was up and couldn’t move my leg. It had ballooned again and needed to be drained. Before JL went to work he helped me and bandaged it up.

My friend took me to the doctor and the OB didn’t want me to take the bandage off. The NP came in and said just the surrounding area looked amazing compared to the day before. No less my coloring and what not. The OB and I also talked about Ewok Part Deux’s size. She isn’t alarmed at all. She said it really is on track with what NHL was too. What she did shock me with was that she thinks I may have seen my last day at work. We technically don’t go back to school until Tuesday, but given I won’t be done with the antibiotic until Wednesday/Thursday she’s doubting I’ll be able to do that. She also said that although she had felt April 27th was a good ending date, it may not be reasonable anymore given this nasty infection. So I am heading in to see her next Thursday and if I don’t feel well Monday I should call and they will yank me from work.

At this point I think I may call my boss tonight or tomorrow and say I will definitely not be in Tuesday and Wednesday. The problem with that (aside from leaving plans for the days) is they are having a baby shower on Tuesday for me. So we shall see. Right now I feel so much better, but I have no energy and after doing almost nothing practically pass out from exhaustion.

On that note I am off to finish dinner, take a shower, wash my hair and have JL check out the wound.
