Winnie the Pooh Prevails

It’s true, we went to see the new Winnie the Pooh Movie on opening weekend. Although I really, really, really wanted to see one of the Harry Potter movies before it is released on DVD, it will not be on opening weekend. I am okay with this. Sure, I stood in front of the door showing Harry Potter and whined for a minute, but I got over it.

It would have been magical (pun intended) to see Harry Potter with friends yesterday, but watching my boys laugh and smile for an entire hour was well worth it. I purposely put the little guy in his favorite shirt and I had my Eeyore shirt on. I had expected longer lines to get the tickets, but it was rather empty at noon. When we walked into the theater, we were the only people there. The boys settled in and were fascinated with the new kids previews before the real movie started.

Ready to watch Winnie the Pooh

We all really enjoyed the movie. It kept the interest of not only a 4 and 7 year old, but TechyDad and I really enjoyed it as well. There was humor that those who could read would understand, and silly things for non-readers too. I truly felt like I had been immersed into the Hundred Acre Woods with all of my favorite friends. Secretly, I was thrilled with how much screen time Eeyore had. TechyDad and I were also impressed  with The Ballad of Nessie that came on before the feature. This had such a powerful lesson within it that it could easily have a post for itself.

WINNIE THE POOH - Copyright DisneyIn the end, my only criticism was that the Winnie the Pooh movie was only about an hour and ten minutes. I wish it had gone longer. I wanted there to be more, but it probably was a nice spot to end. I will not spoil anything, but need you to know something important. When you go to see the new movie, do not leave before ALL of the credits are over. Several people in the theater left and missed something worth the wait. It’s Disney and you know there will be something at the end.

So before I go, I will share a little segment from the movie that Disney has released in honor of the movie opening on Friday. Enjoy!

Have you seen Winnie the Pooh or the last Harry Potter movie? If you have, please let me know what you thought (no spoilers).

Disclosure: My family and I paid for our own tickets to see Winnie the Pooh at Regal Cinemas. We had been invited to a screening of the film, but they were too far from us to attend. Our love for all things Disney meant that we had to share our experience and the clip from the movie for your enjoyment.

Tuesday Tales – Harry Potter Edition

When the Harry Potter books first came onto the scene, I was in college (September 1997). By the time I had switched from a pharmacy major to education, they were a hit in the United States. I started reading the books around the time that I met TechyDad. When I used to go and visit him in Long Island, they would allow me to have an office with internet and desk to use. Since it was the summer, and I had no “school work”, I caught up on children’s literature.

Harry Potter books were on the menu and I managed to read several of them that summer and caught up to where J.K. Rowling was writing. When I started to teach, I was able to keep up with my middle school student that were into the Harry Potter craze. I still remember the day one of my homeroom kids came in and told me the amazing news. They had just announced a park in Orlando, FL was going to house a land with rides, shops, and more to visit. She had her trip planned and I secretly wished I could go. Hopefully, one day, I will.

Eventually, I’ll read the books with the boys. NHL has even expressed interest in them since the books, ads, and movies are all over the place now. Good thing I won the complete set not too long ago.

Harry Potter

For now, I have amazing memories of reading/watching Harry, Ron, Hermione, and the rest of the group grow up and fight HE WHO MUST NOT BE NAMED. Of course, I have never seen any of the Harry Potter movies in the theater yet. Something always comes up. This past Friday, TechyDad and I finally caught up with the first part of Deathly Hallows. Since that day, I have been having odd dreams that include Voldemort in a different form.

Are you a fan of the Harry Potter books and movies? Which in the series is your favorite and why?

This weekend, I may head out to see the final Harry Potter movie, but there is a small issue. We promised our boys that we would also take them to see another famous character in a movie being released. Here are two fun teasers about that that you have to check out and will make you smile.

And the other short one is here:

What have you read recently? Please be sure to link up to your Book Posts, and/or leave a comment below. Include something you read on your own, with a child or someone else. Tuesday Tales are all about spreading the love for books.

ZooKeeper Screening for Capital District

The summer is here and there is a constant stream of movies starting in the theaters. I have noticed a lot of them are geared for families with younger children. One of the movies coming out next Friday, July 8, 2011 is ZooKeeper featuring Kevin James.

Here is a trailer about the movie:

More about the movie from the PR agency:

In Zookeeper, the animals at the Franklin Park Zoo love their kindhearted caretaker, Griffin Keyes (Kevin James). Finding himself more comfortable with a lion than a lady, Griffin decides the only way to get a girl in his life is to leave the zoo and find a more glamorous job. The animals, in a panic, decide to break their time-honored code of silence and reveal their biggest secret: they can talk! To keep Griffin from leaving, they decide to teach him the rules of courtship – animal style. The film also stars Rosario Dawson and Leslie Bibb and features the voices of Cher, Nick Nolte, Adam Sandler, and Sylvester Stallone.

Rated PG for some rude and suggestive humor, and language.

If you live in the Capital District area and would like the opportunity to go to a screening of ZooKeeper, here is your chance. The first 40 people to go to GOFOBO.com will receive the opportunity for two people to go to a screening at Colonie Center on July 6, 2011. Here is the information that you will need. Remember these passes will go quickly, so do not wait too long.

GOFOBO - ZooKeeper

If you get the tickets and go, please let me know. We may also attend. I would also love to know what you think after seeing the movie. I have a feeling this will be a movie that both of my boys will enjoy

TheAngelForever

Disclosure: I was asked by the PR company from ZooKeeper to share this opportunity with my local readers. I received no compensation for doing so. I was told that I could print passes for my family and we hope to attend the screening as well.

Waiting to See The Help

Back at the start of October, I wrote about reading while I get other items done. One of those books was The Help by Kathryn Stockett. I had the audio version of the book on my MP3 player. The MP3 player went with me all over the place because I wanted to keep reading and hear what would happen next. I was thrown into the world of the characters and needed to listen to their tale. Before I knew it, I was finished and left to figure out what to read next.

Audio Books From The Past

All these months later, I am excited that The Help will now be coming out as a movie. As a teacher, I have to admit – books to movies do worry me. Too many times beloved books come to life on the big screen and then things change.

TheHelp

While watching the previews for The Help, I do not think this will happen. It appears that they have taken this powerhouse novel and made it into a movie to represent the well written words. Here is a featurette from DreamWorks’ that really has me excited about the release later this summer:

The Help comes to theaters August 12. I hope to see it soon after the release so I can see the amazing women in the film come to life. If you are a fan and want to check out more, The Help Movie has a Facebook page and are also on Twitter.

Have you read The Help? Are you looking forward to the movie? I would love to know what you think of books coming to life on the big screen.

TheAngelForever

Disclosure: PR from DreamWorks sent me media information about The Help. As a fan of the book, I wanted to share this information with my readers. No compensation was given, and all opinions are mine.
