Memories of Muppets Music

Growing up with the Muppets, I remember playing my Muppet Show album on my old Fisher-Price record player. Actually, I think my father also had it on an old eight track as well. Man do I feel old and, with my birthday coming, this hurts even more. Anyway, I have always loved listening to the Muppets sing.

It's Muppets TimeLast week, TechyDad bought the The Muppets Original Soundtrack MP3. The boys have been listening to it a lot with him. I had not really had a chance to listen to it. So when we went yesterday to see The Muppets, I was not jumping in my seat and singing along like the boys. Of course, I fell in love with it as I watched the movie come to life.

To say that I enjoyed the movie would be an understatement. I will just say that I can NOT wait to buy it on DVD and watch it over and over again. More on the movie coming later. One of the items that I really liked about the movie was it was old-school Muppets. It brought us back to the days when the Muppets really did a lot of singing and dancing. The songs were classic and fun for all ages.

When I got home, I found a fun video on YouTube about the soundtrack. It is a bit longer, but worth it. They had a lot of fun mixing The Muppets and their humor with would be YouTube comments.

Yes, the Muppets are back and I thank Disney for making it right. I do think Jim Henson is smiling down watching the next generation of Muppet addicts like my children.

Muppets Mania

I am a child of the 80’s and grew up sitting down with my family to watch The Muppet Show. I adored Miss Piggy and have written about it before. It should not be a shock that my boys love to watch old episodes from our The Muppet Show Season 1 DVD set. What may be a surprise is that we have not had a chance to see The Muppets that came out last Wednesday. I know, I know – tsk, tsk, tsk!

We were going to see it on Sunday, but a migraine had other plans for our family. We are hoping to see it this weekend. Of course, we are still in Muppets spirit here. Check out my two Muppets.

My Muppets

Why yes, Chanukah has come early and the boys have Muppets hats, Muppets shirts, and of course Muppets pajamas. NHL appears to really like Animal. I think it’s because Animal plays the drums and he’s in band learning that. Not too sure why JSL like Kermit, but he’s cute asking for Miss Piggy things as well.

More of my Muppets

My question to you is inspired by my long time love of all things Muppets:

Have you seem The Muppets yet? Would love to know what you think. Oh and while we are at it, who is your favorite character from The Muppet Show?

Tuesday Tales – The Magic of Brian Selznick

Tuesday Tales

Although I am not in a classroom right now, I try to stay up to date on Children’s Literature. Thanks to my boys, I am able to keep up a little more with picture books and early elementary school chapter books. Still, I love reading more than just that.

A little over a year ago, I read a book that changed my book reading world. Brian Selznick’s The Invention of Hugo Cabret was something I had never experienced before. It took me on an adventure with words, thought, and most important amazing illustrations that made the story come alive. Yes, it was a novel that was 550 pages long that read so quickly and kept me turning pages.

The book was so popular that it was just made into a major motion picture called Hugo. Once again, it has me wondering IF Hollywood can live up to my interpretation of a book. Of course, it has something intriguing when you see the trailers and know it is a Martin Scorsese film.

Now, I just wait for a time to see Hugo since The Muppets are more the speed for my children. I am hoping to see it soon with a childhood friend who is a librarian. Until then, I am thrilled to have Brian Selznick’s new book to read.

Wonderstruck

Yes, Wonderstruck was released in September and already has amazing reviews – like The Invention of Hugo Cabret. I picked up the book and can not wait to read and review it.

Have you read any of Brian Selznick’s books or seen Hugo? I would love to know. As always, I would also like to know what have you read recently? Please be sure to link up to your Tuesday Tales and/or leave a comment below. Include something you read on your own, with a child or someone else. Tuesday Tales are all about spreading the love for books.

Thanksgiving 2011 Memories

We had a relatively quiet Thanksgiving this years. The boys and I went to Nana and Papa’s house for the day and just lounged around. Wednesday night, I baked a Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cake. We brought the items to make the Asian Salad that my parents requested. Happy Thanksgiving

When we got to the house, the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade was on. The boys watched on and off as they were being goofy.

Silly Turkeys

The turkey was finished really early on. My mother opted to buy a turkey breast, not the whole bird, and it turned out to be the perfect size for the six of us.

Turkey Time

Once the turkey was done and everything else ready to heat up later on, we all piled into the living room to have some snacks for lunch. There is just something fun about finger foods before sitting down to Thanksgiving dinner. Oh, much to my amazement, the little guy gobbled up hummus. I was floored and had to take a photo to show him later in case he refuses to eat it again. Lunch food fun

After this, it was time to grab a seat and start watching Cars 2. We never had a chance to get to see it over the summer, so it was a first for all of us together. Cars 2 Time

We did not finish the movie at that point. The boys needed to play and get some energy out. Then, it was time to get dinner into the oven to heat and time to serve.

Once all of the food was ready, it was time to grab out plates and sit down together for a wonderful meal.

Delicious Meal

When we were finished eating, some went off to relax – and others helped to clean up. JSL was really into cleaning with Nana and Papa. NHL appeared to be exhausted thanks to eating turkey.

After dinner

Once dinner was over, we finished Cars 2 to digest our food. Then, it was time to have dessert. We had pumpkin chocolate chip cake, chocolate rugelach, and dark chocolate peanut butter ice cream.

Sweet Ending

After this, we got the boys into their pajamas, watched a little television, and went home. It was a wonderful day with family making some wonderful memories. Thank you Nana and Papa for inviting us to be with you.

What did you do for Thanksgiving this year?

Muppets Love Over the Years

Hello, I have a confession. I am a major Miss Piggy fan. Being born at the end of the 1970’s (*GULP*) and growing up in the 80’s, the Muppets were a part of my world. Check out this photo of me with my father. Look carefully to see Kermit and Piggy.

 Muppets in the 80's

I am on a hunt to find photos of me with my two Miss Piggy dolls that I would take all over the place with me. I know where one of them is now, but not the puppet Piggy. There were also my original Muppet Fan Club buttons, along with others that I collected over the years.

My love for the queen of swine continued over the years. When we head to Disney Hollywood Studios, I always have to stop and take a photo of the powerful pick diva to bring home.

Piggy Greets Me at Disney

While shopping, something caught my eye in Target. Yes, they had Muppet pajamas. Normally I am not really into pink, but there was something special about these.

A Muppets Gift for Moi

The pink and green with Kermie and Piggy reminded me of my childhood room colors. TechyDad told me to get them for keeping warm this winter. Now, I am waiting to head to the movies with the boys over Thanksgiving to see this:

Will you be going to see the new Muppets movie coming out on Thanksgiving?

There is just something special about the Muppets and reliving your childhood memories and laughter with your children.

It's Me

Disclosure: I wrote this post because Miss Piggy told me to. Oh wait, I only wish that was true. I wrote it because I am a huge fan of the Muppets and wanted to share the trailer and some of my history with Miss Piggy from over the decades.
