Toddler talk of bugs

Dear JSL,

It is hard for me to believe that you are already 28 months old. Of course,  with your new toddler antics and talking in sentences it reminds me that you are growing up before my eyes. Over the last few weeks you have become quite the character. You are personality plus with your big grin, funny laugh and funny expressions. When we go shopping and leave a store you even blow kisses to all of the sales people and they adore that.

Thursday morning I was eating my breakfast we had a chat that made me sad to admit that you are becoming a big boy. Here it is:

JSL: "Mama, der bug on wall!"

Me: "What JSL?"

JSL:  "Der a bug over der."

I got up and sure enough you were right, there was a big moth on the wall. I went into the kitchen and brought the vacuum cleaner to take care of the moth.

JSL: "No, vac Mama!"

Me: "Yes JSL I need the vacuum to get the bug."

JSL: "No Mama, tisu for bug!"

Look out world here I come

The look on your face was priceless as you told me what I needed to do. Of course, it made me realize that we must have WAY too many critters around if you picked this up already. Stay sweet my little munchkin and let the world see your personality shining through.

Love,

Mommy

Off to first grade

This morning NHL officially started first grade. He was up at 5:30 thanks to being anxious about the start of school. I tried to explain to him that even when I was a teacher, I got nervous on the first day of school. We talked with him about things and soon it was time to head out the door. Everyone brought NHL to school today. Once we were all dressed and ready we went out the door. Here is NHL all ready for first grade.

Heading out of the house

Heading toward the car NHL mentioned that he was really scared. JL went to walk and talk with him some as they got into the car.

Going to the car with Daddy

Once we arrived over by school and parked everyone got out of the car. This is when NHL decided that it would be best to walk super slow. He also requested a trip back to Disney World on the slow trek in. We eventually got him to walk faster along with Daddy and JSL.

The boys walked into school together

When we got into school NHL really held onto my hand. The noise level, all of the excitement, the new place to meet for first graders and all of the kids/parents/teachers was a little overwhelming. I can not say I blame him. I caught myself trying to stop tears a few times.

Looking a little worried

Soon after this, NHL’s teacher came over to say hello and introduce herself to all of us. I took a minute to let her know that NHL would not be taking the bus that afternoon. At that point the district had never sent us bus information, so I had to make a call. NHL was a little more at ease at this point. When his teacher called all of the children to line up NHL followed along into the line.

Ready to go to classroom

We watched and waited as the class slowly walked out and toward their classroom. Poor JSL started to sulk at this point as he saw his big brother leave.

Here is to hoping for a great day and year in the first grade. We all hope that this year and new teacher will be just what everyone, especially NHL, needs.

So how was your back to school so far?

Night of the Tooth Fairy

Can you hear the party music going over here? We are having a party here because NHL finally lost his first tooth. This little booger has been wiggling since NHL bit into corn on the cob back on July 3. We sat back for quite some time and encouraged him to wiggle it and work on it. Then on August 12th we noticed that his new tooth was coming in behind the baby one. Hubby and I were quite nervous, especially as it moved up quickly.

A week ago, we really started working with NHL to loosen the tooth (he even got a note from the Tooth Fairy for encouragement). Monday, I called the dentist and explained how I was worried about things and we made an appointment for Thursday. Tuesday night, JL sat on the couch with gauze and really worked that tooth. They felt a pop and the tooth was barely holding on. Unfortunately, NHL was upset over the blood and his gums bothering him.

Today (typing this on Thursday), we went to the dentist. I was fully expecting the worst. Much to my surprise, the dentist told both of us that his gums are probably really sensitive and we should numb them up to really get a good wiggle. She put some on his gums and barely touched it and the pesky tooth popped out of his mouth! Clearly, the Wiggle Tooth Olympics of the last two nights that brought much crying and screaming had worked that tooth to the point of surrender. We also learned that we will be purchasing some gum numbing gel for the next tooth which we can also see is about to cut.

Can you tell NHL is excited about the Tooth Fairy coming? Oh, and this is the pesky tooth that wanted to hold on for dear life.

Excited that the tooth is gone The pesky tooth

Here is my big kid all ready for the Tooth Fairy tonight:

All ready for the Tooth Fairy

So my question for this week is inspired by the recent events:

Do you remember how you lost your first tooth? I would love to hear the stories and I’m sure NHL would too!

Message from the Tooth Fairy

I wanted to share a note that NHL received last night from the Tooth Fairy. This is the letter that he found when he woke up this morning:

Cheering letter from Tooth Fairy to NHL

He was quite excited to have something on his bed when he woke up. Mind you, he did not find it on his own. Daddy went into his room and came running to NHL to mention it. Of course, once he saw the tooth on the outside he guessed who it was from.

Note and the sleeping boy

We are hoping that this note, along with some fun games that JL made up, will help to get this tooth out. The new adult tooth is already well on it’s way up behind the stubborn baby. Another call to the dentist office will take place Monday morning from a paranoid parent. In the mean time we have been trying to work on the tooth. Last night NHL was playing Mario Kart Wii and each time he lost JL got to wiggle for 10 seconds. Thank goodness NHL is not too great at Mario Kart, so a lot of wiggling took place. Today the tooth is really moving and even side to side.

Later today more Wiggle Tooth Olympics will commence!

Bye-Bye Binky

Dear JSL,

This was a big week for you. On Monday night after celebrating NHL’s birthday you went into our bed and never asked for your binky. Of course, Daddy and I quickly made them "disappear" before you saw any. Tuesday you never said anything until bedtime. That was a rough night, along with Wednesday and some on Thursday. You really wanted your "Baby" and I was mean and did not give in. When we came home from Disney World in May we only allowed your binky at naps and bedtime. You were doing really great. You would wake up and toss your binky out and keep going. Now, thanks to you initiating it (without knowing) you appear to be binky free.

Quiet time with Elmo

The last major step in becoming a big boy is potty train (I am not counting the fact that you still like you "Mama More More" ).  Today while we were out, we bought a bunch of Sesame Street stickers to use as rewards. Now Mommy just needs to be brave enough to try this on her own since daycare mostly potty trained your big brother.

Binky free boy

I am so proud of you for being binky free, but you will always be my baby no matter what.

Love,

Mommy
