Feeling Bionic-ly Challenged

Please excuse me if I am MIA for a little while. Right now, I am working on something new to me. TechyDad and I finally moved forward and decided to get our first Smartphones. This is the phone that I had been using for the last two and a half years. It was a step up since we finally got a texting plan and I wanted a QWERTY keyboard. My old dumb phone

With my little phone I could add status messages to Facebook, Tweet, and send photos as needed. It may not have been the best, but it worked and I managed by being frugal.

Now things have changed and the need for a Smartphone was there. Thanks to Robyn, I won a Droid Bionic. It arrived yesterday and we went to Verizon Wireless and set everything up. Now Violet and I are home.

Meet Violet

She’s being a bit temperamental, but it may just be my unrelated headache and Wi-Fi issues. There is definitely a big learning curve and I have a lot to figure out. Still, I know I am up for this and will love it in the long run. So don’t mind me if I double Tweet, send a strange message, or am missing for a bit. I am off with Violet while trying to feel a little more bionic in the Smartphone world.

It's Me

P.S. – If you have any tips, tricks, or other hints….I would love to hear them!

Coffee Cup Confessions

Recently, we happened to stop at a Disney Store outlet. This is a huge thing for us since we no longer have a local Disney Store. While looking around, the mugs caught my eye. I liked several of them, but wanted to wait until we head to Walt Disney World to get anything. Then, I wandered over to the clearance section. A wall of left over mugs were there.

The mugs happened to be Disney characters that had been associated with signs of the zodiac and characteristics. Sure enough, there was one for me within the group.

New coffee cup for thought

I have to admit that what sold me was the fact that Sagittarius was represented by Winnie the Pooh. Since it was an amazing price, I bought it to make me smile while driving my coffee.

When I got home and looked at it again, it got me thinking of my college days again. During that time, some friends and I had fun exploring horoscopes and more. It was just something that made us smile, laugh, and gave us something to chat about.

So my question to you this week:

Do you read horoscopes for fun? What sign are you and do you think you are like what they say represent?

Hockey Days Gone By

Yesterday, I went to an Albany Devils game with my son’s class. The Devils gave Capital District schools tickets to a matinee game as a community outreach program. As soon as I sat down in my seat, my eyes wandered across the ice and to the right by the team bench. Why over there? Well, that is where I sat for several seasons in a row, during every home game when I had Season Tickets to the Albany River Rats.

My old hockey spot

Ah, those were the days. The original team filled with New Jersey Devils prospects like Patrik Elias, Petr Sykora, Mike Dunham, Steve Sullivan, and so many more. As you can see from the photo, I had an amazing hockey spot. I sat center ice, a few row back from the Devils bench. We sat so close to the players that I can actually say I learned some interesting phrases as they screamed to the visitors bench at times.

Old School Hockey - Feb 2001

For some reason, it was like I had been sent back in time. There must be something special about the air during a hockey game. It brought me back to my college days where I had few responsibilities, no husband, and no kids. I love those memories, but so thrilled to have my family and life.

Do you have a place that you like to visit that reminds you of your “old school” days?

It's Me

BTW – For any old time River Rats fans, the photos above were taken on February 2, 2001. It was a River Rats game against the Hamilton Bulldogs with an autograph session on the ice after.

Memories from July 2000

Saturday night, I sat in front of my computer searching our hard drive. I was on a mission to find photos of my parents. Yesterday, they celebrated their 39th anniversary and I had to find some pictures of them for the post. In my quest, I was side tracked a bit. Suddenly, I was sifting through photos from before I was married to TechyDad and WAY before we had the boys.

Just after TechyDad and I were engaged, we were invited to a celebration for Uncle M’s father’s 80th birthday. Here is a photo of TechyDad and I. This is just about two weeks after we were engaged.

TechyDad and Moi - newly engaged

My Mimi and Poppy were also there. Here is a photo of the four of us while at this dinner.

Mimi and Poppy with us

One other photo caught my eye. It was the two of us with three of my cousins. Hard to believe how we have all grown up. Everyone is out of college, on their own, and cousin AW was just married earlier this year.

Cousins

Less than a year after these photos were taken, everyone was gathered again at our wedding. Hard to believe that it has been so long and some of these special people, like my Poppy are no longer with us. Thank goodness we captured these moments to remember and share with our kids.

These are just some of the pictures I came across the other night. Do you ever find yourself just sifting through old photos in books or digital ones on your computer?

39 Years of Marriage

Dear Mom and Dad,

I hope the two of you understand why the title of this post includes a number. As the shorter and older of your two children, I wanted to write something to the two of you. I think that number is amazing and shows something special. I am proud of that number and being your daughter.

Mom and Dad 2012

While digging through old photos, it was fun looking back on some amazing family memories. I will say, it was not easy locating photos with the two of you in them. If you are together these days, there is typically a grandchild, two, three, or four with you. Still, I found some fun items from over the years.

Here is one taken at a family event soon after TechyDad and I were engaged. Interesting to note, it was where my bridal shower would be less than a year later.

Mom and Dad 2000

Of course, the day when I would join the married world had to be included. At this point, you had been married 28 years. You made our special day extra magical by helping with everything leading up to the chuppah. This photo happens to be while walking me down the aisle. Note the smile on Dad’s face. I do believe that was  him telling everyone that I had a wedgie and needed to pee. Ah, we are a classy group.

BJ51

Since that day, you have watched both of your children get married (to two amazing additions to our family), and become Nana and Papa to four fantastic kiddos. Although I have a feeling that number will not change, I am sure that we will add many more memories together for years to come.

Wishing both of you a wonderful 39th Anniversary and many more happy and healthy ones to come. Thank you for being an inspiration and showing that long term marriage commitments do in fact happen.

Love,

Beth

BTW – A big Happy Birthday to Uncle M today as well. Definitely a major celebratory day in our family.
