Baby Dolls for Boys

Rewind to almost six years ago. I was the mother of a three year old little boy and was busy teaching and trying to battle morning sickness. I was pregnant with my second child, waiting to find out if NHL’s sibling was going to be a girl or boy. There were many reasons I wanted to know, but one of them was to buy big brother his own baby to take care of. I wanted the baby to be the same sex as mine. When we found out that we were expecting another little boy, the hunt for a baby boy doll began. We eventually found a baby boy doll that NHL named several times. Eventually, Howie Harry stuck.

Even boys like baby dolls

Last year, JSL declared that he also wanted a “Howie Harry” baby to take care of. At nursery school, the kids were playing with dolls and he often felt left out there and wanted a baby to take care of. Problem, there were very few boy dolls to find that were reasonably priced. Eventually, NHL offered to loan Howie Harry to JSL. This worked, but only for a short time.

Just before going back to school, JSL started to beg, cry, and say he would do anything for a doll. There was a difference this time. He did not care if the baby was a boy or girl. He simply wanted to be a Daddy to a doll that was his own. We tried to distract this desire, but it was not working. JSL fell in love with a doll that he saw at Toys R Us a few weeks ago. TechyDad and I finally agreed that we would get JSL the baby that he really wanted. It was a very early Chanukah gift, but he has his baby and loves her.

Dolls for boys

Many may ask why JSL needed a doll since he is a boy. My answer is simple, it meant a lot to him for a very long time. He wanted to take care of something like a Daddy and it does not hurt anyone, so why not?!

My question to you this week:

Do you have any name ideas for JSL’s new baby girl? He is having a hard time naming her. He wanted to name her Howie Harry, but we insisted that was a no-go. Perhaps something you suggest will be one that he adores.

Disney Letter “E”

If you arrived into my classroom when I was teaching, you would have been greeted with a giant Eeyore on my desk. It should be no surprise to you that my gloomy old pal was the first Disney “E” that came to mind. After that, I went a little outside of the box while looking at old magical moments from adventures to Walt Disney World.

Ready to Learn Q-Bertese with Wreck-It Ralph

It isn’t every day that a movie can make you feel old, but bring back happy thoughts at the same time. I do believe that Wreck-It Ralph may just do this.

Wreck-It Ralph - Disney Studios

The boys, including TechyDad, and I can not wait to see this movie. Just watching the trailers has opened up old gaming dialog. Of course, as you can see from the picture above, old school video games meet new school gaming in this movie coming to theaters November 2. Here is the latest trailer that was released from Disney Animation to help you get excited. Try to see how many characters/games you recognize. Ready? Go!

Now, what I really want to do is learn how to speak Q-Bertese. I think it would be a great code language for parents to use when they can’t “talk” in front of their children. What do you think and are you excited about going to see Wreck-It Ralph?

It's Me

Disclosure: Disney PR notified me of the Wreck-It Ralph trailer.  I was not compensated for this and simply wanted to share since I adore all things Disney. You know we will be going to see Wreck-It Ralph when it is released November 2, 2012.

Disney Food

Talk to any Disney fanatic and they will tell you that part of the magic of Walt Disney World and the other parks is the food. Yes, Disney food is just one of the items that we plan things around when we visit. It is also something that we mourn when we have to cancel a trip. You think about the ADR that you had on that evening, the meal you will not be eating, and nothing you eat at home lives up to it. Of course, Disney fans also dream and crave items like Mickey Bars, Dole Whips, and more. This week, the Disney Wordless Wednesday theme is “Disney Food” and I am sharing just some of the amazing items we have consumed on recent visits. One fun things about Disney, you are never alone taking photos of your food!

Shana Tova 5773

Tonight, at sundown, Rosh Hashanah will begin. It is during this time that we reflect on the year gone by.

L'Shana Tova - Happy New Year

This is a tough one for me. It has been a whirlwind of a year. Though there have been some not so wonderful moments, even those have been valuable and will help my family in the long run. My motto of just keep swimming, especially during those Eeyore moments, seems even more fitting right now.

My inner Eeyore has been questioning items, things related to my faith. A lot of these feeling go back to the days when I was a child in Hebrew School. I keep reminding myself that no matter how I express myself within a synagogue or outside,  NOBODY can take away my Jewish identity. Even with these thoughts in my mind, I take pride in being a Jewish American. I love teaching our boys about the holidays, going into their schools to share with their peers, and writing about books that help us to celebrate. I guess that is the beauty of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, it makes you stop to think, rewind, and wonder.

Then, beautiful things like the video from Fountainheads in Israel make me smile. They remind me of the beauty, wonder, and pride associated with Judaism. Here is the video that they made last year for Rosh Hashanah called Dip Your Apple – it truly is a catchy tune with beautiful images.

To all those that celebrate Rosh Hashanah – I wish you and your family a Happy, Healthy, and Sweet New Year.
