My homage to the Doof

Some of you may have seen the title of my post and had no clue what it means. Guess you do not recognize the crew below.

Some of our Phineas and Ferb items

This is my six year old son’s Phineas and Ferb shirt, along with the Phineas and Ferb soundtrack. Recently, NHL has really taken to Phineas and Ferb on the Disney Channel. The show has a lot of catchy tunes and even adults can laugh along with it.

The other day, a childhood friend left a message on Facebook to see if anyone would know what he was talking about. His wife thought it was pretty obscure and nobody would recognize it. The status message simply stated, "My name if Doof and you’ll do what I say!"

I vaguely recalled it, but said it outloud to TechyDad expecting a reply from him. Before I knew it, NHL said the following, "My name is Doof and you’ll do what I say. Woot! Woot!"  He kept on going singing the entire song that Dr. Doofenshmirtz sings from Phineas and Ferb.

While visiting my mother today, I had a weak parenting moment. I channeled my inner Dr. Doofenshmirtz and said the following to JSL:

Me: My name is Mama and you’ll do what I say. Woot! Woot!

Without missing a beat, the little guy replied back to me.

JSL: My name is JSL pup-pup you do whah I. Woot! Woot!

I immediately wanted to be able to share this with hubby since it had backfired, but in a really cute way. Here is the little guy doing it several more times with me.

The lesson learned is that this may have worked for Doof, but it does not work with 2 and 6 year old children!

Hockey on Christmas

Since we are Jewish, Christmas day is just another day for us. The only difference is pretty much everything is closed. Thanks to this, we must entertain ourselves at home or with relatives until we get Chinese food for dinner. This year, TechyDad opted to go into work on Christmas and use the vacation day for another occassion. He figured he could get a lot of work done when everyone was out.

The boys and I were invited to spend the day with my parents. Nana and Papa made us breakfast. The boys loved their blueberry pancakes. After that, we played for a little while before we all watching the Disney Christmas parade. The boys loved this since they remembered so many of the places that were shown at Walt Disney World. Of course, it left me feeling a little sad. It was just about a year ago now that we officially decided to book a trip to Disney World for May. Ah, the memories.

Once the parade was over, the boys played while Nana made lunch. After that, Papa pulled out a hockey game that he had. The boys were pretty intrigued by this. At first they sat at the kitchen table with Papa to play.

Hockey time with Papa

Soon the boys packed up and moved to the dining room floor. They kept playing here for quite some time. It was hilarious to watch them interact. Everything NHL did, JSL tried it moments later.

More hockey fun

As fun as this game may be to play, the sounds can certainly grate on adult ears that have to listen for an extended amount of time. Here are the boys playing for a short segment. Please note the number of pucks in use.

Eventually, the boys stopped playing and it was time for JSL to show us his new Santa hat wearing technique. Apparently, he is into the western style of Santa hat wear.

At the end of the day, the boys and I packed back up to head home. We met up with TechyDad and opted to order in Chinese food. Then, we had some delicious pie that hubby had gotten from work for being there on Christmas. Yum!

Hockey game highlights before Turkey Day

Dear NHL & JSL,

On Wednesday night, we took you to a hockey game. There was a deal that we just could not pass up. What you both may not know is that for many years Mommy had season tickets for our local hockey team. I traveled near and far with my friends to watch and cheer on the team. I miss those days a lot, but am so happy to watch both of you experience hockey now.

NHL, this was the first time that you remember being down by the ice to watch warm ups before the game. We did this when you were really little, but no doubt you do not recall that. You got to see your friend down there and the three of you had a blast watching the team skate by, bang on the sideboards and toss pucks to some of the other kids.

Warm up time on the ice

Then JSL was in his glory. He watched the entire post warm-up ice cleaning by the zamboni. According to Daddy you would not leave the area until it was completely finished. For each stoppage in play during the game you kept saying that the game was over. We finally realized it was because you wanted the zamboni to come back out.

The Zamboni

Between the periods JSL watched as the zamboni went round and round. He kept waving and his smiles got bigger and bigger each time it went by our end of the ice.

Silly boy during hockey game

NHL was funny because you were very concerned with the rough behavior of the players on the ice. Once you realized that penalties were being called you were ready to toss most of the players in there for anything. You will quickly learn that fighting is part of this sport and so is bumping each other on the boards.

Watching the home team win

Hopefully we will get to more hockey games soon so you can both watch the hockey players and zamboni do their thing.

Love,

Mommy
