Our Splash Mountain Adventure

Dear NHL,

On our last day at Disney World, we decided to spend time at the Magic Kingdom. We knew that there were a lot of rides that you wanted to go on, but that JSL was still too small for according to Disney. One of these rides was Splash Mountain. After arriving at the park, we went to get some Fast Passes. When it was time to head back, we got a Child Swap pass so Daddy could go back on with you later.

Views of Splash Mountain

The two of us immediately went through the quickly moving Fast Pass lanes. Before we got to the area to board our log, I sent Daddy a text message. I had goofed and left my prescription sunglasses on, which made it hard to see in the darker areas of Splash Mountain. Before we knew it, they were looking for a party of two to move even further up the line. Within minutes, we were on our way to the back of a log and starting our adventure.

This was not our first time on Slash Mountain together, so we knew what to expect. We just went around a corner and were heading up the giant mountain. Suddenly our log STOPPED. We were way up the incline and about 3/4 or more of the way in a pretty dark area. We sat there for a bit and then you wanted to know what was going on. I had no clue and could not get my cell phone out of my pocket. Turning around to look was next to impossible thanks to the steep incline that we were at.

After about five minutes, we heard them cut into the PA system asking all cast members to immediately go to Tower 3. I have a feeling we were stuck in that area. They never told us much at that point, just to stay seated and not attempt to get out of our logs. After another five minutes or so, our log started to move into the first animated section of the ride. As we left that area we were hopeful. Then we stopped again with a bunch of logs unable to move in front of us.

We were baking in the sun and crowds were forming below. There were no logs going down the mountain and people knew something was up. More messages on the PA system to stay still and know they were looking into the problem. By this time, I had pulled out my phone and the two of us worked on sending photo messages and Tweets.

Daddy knew that we were stuck and was trying to find out more. We could see him from where we were, but he did not realize that at the time. Here is a photo that I took with my cell phone:

TechyDad and JSL below

We were both getting a bit worried because we had no clue what was going on. Plus we had another little issue with the other people in our log. I think this photo sums it up:

Sitting and waiting for news

Then, a cast member appeared along the edge of the ride.

Stuck on Splash Mountain

We thought perhaps that we were going to be rescued, but we were wrong. People asked what was going on, but little was said except that we would be moving soon and the ride was safe.

After what seemed like an eternity, our logs moved again. 30 minutes after we started the adventure, we were able to get off the Splash Mountain. NHL, thank goodness you were there. I was shaking quite a bit and my back hurt. You led me through the maze to find our golden fast pass ticket for our trouble, and then out to Daddy.

At first, you said you were never going on Splash Mountain again. Much to my surprise, after dinner at Chef Mickey – YOU asked Daddy to go back on Splash Mountain. I was so proud of you.

Thank you for being so good while we were stuck and not letting this experience ruin the magic of Splash Mountain. I love you my brave big kid.

Love,

Mommy

Disclosure: Although we paid for our own trip to Disney World, we were given an incredible deal thanks to Disney. The sweet conference fee included 3 nights at the Grand Floridian, several meals for the entire family,  7 day park hoppers for everyone, conference/meals for me and some other items to take home. Also note that Disney never asked us to blog about this event. As a long time Disney fan it is my pleasure to share my experiences from the event.

Saying Goodbye to Disney For Now

Magical family memories are what you dream of when traveling to Walt Disney World and it is a simple item to fulfill.

Meeting with Tigger and Pooh Bear

On this trip alone we have done many new and old favorites which include:

  • Bouncing with Tigger when getting a photo taken
  • Searching for the hidden Mickey’s that lurk in all different places
  • Eating with Belle, Aurora, Ariel, Alice, Cinderella at Akershus
  • Taking the entire family on Kali River Rapids together since the little guy was tall enough
  • Eating at Boma still soaked 3 hours after the previously mentioned ride
  •  Meeting the amazing people behind Cake Wrecks
  • Watching Captain EO and traveling back to 1986 with my boys
  • Traveling around the world and back to complete a passport
  • Trying Kim Possible
  • Catching a glimpse of the Main Street Electric Parade before heading back to the resort after 12 hours
  • Eating pizza at 9:30 and laughing that we are having dinner so late

The boys and I have had yet another fantastic experience, filled with memories that will last a life time.Of course, the hardest part of a vacation is packing up to head home and going back to reality. By the time you read this we will be home, in the cold temperatuers, possible facing more snow. Right now, I am still hear and heading off for our last magical day at Disney.

My question for you today:

What is the hardest part of going back home after a vacation, and how do you help to ease back into things? One other thing –> Happy Anniversary Mom and Dad!!!

What a Difference a Year Makes

The first time that we took the boys to Walt Disney World, they were beyond excited. We made reservations to begin the trip at Chef Mickey. Before I knew what was happening, both of the boys were cowering away from the characters. Yes, the kids were scared of Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Pluto, and Goofy.

Goofy and Pluto the first night

On that trip NHL eventually warmed up and was able to get autographs and photos. JSL, would clutch to us for photos. Then, on his second birthday we had dinner at The Crystal Palace. A break through moment occurred. JSL went over to his favorite, Tigger, and honked his nose. It may not seem like much, but it meant a lot to us.

Tigger and JSL 2011

Last year NHL was a character pro and eager to meet and greet everyone. JSL was willing to go, if one of us went with him. We had no idea what we would experience with him this year. To our surprise JSL runs up and bear hugs the characters. When he has to leave from his turn with them, he will hug and kiss them as his way to thanking them. IMGP3164

We learned not to push the issue and let the boys ease their way into seeing the Disney favorites. Many more memories and photos to come soon.

Celebrating Purim

As a child, I have many memories of celebrating Purim with my family. My mother, father, brother and I would go to Shul with my Mimi and Poppy. I often dressed up as Queen Esther since this was her big day. For years I would not go near our rabbi because he scared me in his Megillah Gorilla costume one year. I am happy to report I was able to get over it since he was also the one that married us almost ten years ago.

TechyDad and I have also taken our kids to synagogue for Purim celebrations.

Our Purim Parade - 2009

The boys adore dressing up and taking part in the Megillah reading celebration. Groggers to make noises each time we hear the name Haman uttered, only adds to the fun and excitement for a child.

Today, the boys and I will be celebrating Purim a little differently. To help get you in the mood and tell you the story, I wanted to share the Maccabeats Purim Song video. Enjoy!

Having Fun At Disney World

Dear NHL & JSL,

There is no doubt in my mind that you are both huge fans of Walt Disney World. The two of you are having such a great time at Disney World. I missed being with you yesterday, but I learned so much and met so many amazing people at the Disney Social Media Moms Conference part of the celebration.

P1020078

This morning, I left before NHL was even awake. I went to the Animal Kingdom to participate in the Wild African Trek. You would have been proud of me, I walked way above crocodiles on a scary looking bridge and was only afraid of breaking Daddy’s camera.

I’m not sure you really missed me since you seemed to do a lot at the Magic Kingdom. Here are a few to share for now:

I can not wait to make more memories together. Plus, I want to share the items that I saw and leaned with you.

Love,

Mommy
