So what do you think?

For months now I have been intrigued by all of the CVS bloggers out there. These are people like you and me that go to CVS spend a few bucks (typically less) and get tons of items for their families with ECBs. ECBs are basically CVS bucks that print with your receipt to use within a month on future purchases. One of the best websites I have found is Money Saving Mom. Each week Crystal posts ideal ways to get the most out of the CVS bucks so you spend little, use past bucks and earns lots more for future trips. I also really like I Heart CVS where they post the ads early and have amazing coupons.
Last night was the end of the line for some March ECB deals. JL told me to head on out and try to get those things. Here is a photo of what I ended up buying. It isn’t a lot, but still not too shabby once you hear what I spent and earned in ECBs.
Here was my plan. I wanted to get some of the Lypsyl that was on the March ECBs. They were $2.99 each and then you would receive a $2.99 ECB – so essentially they are FREE! There was a limit of 5 for the month. Problem, I waited WAY too long to get these bad boys and the store had none. Oh well, onto the next item on my list.
I wanted to get the Colgate Total toothpaste that was also on the March deals. Again this was $2.99 cost and $2.99 ECBs at the end. Problem, all of the signs showed the new weekly Colgate special of BOGO and did not have this. Still I grabbed ones by a sign and figured I would ask at the register.
Next I wanted to get the Softsoap Spa Radiant that was on this weeks specials. It cost $4.99 and gave $4.99 of ECBs (limit of 5). I did not see any of these and the manager helped me to find more on another endcap.I also picked up some wipes for JSL that had a $3 ECB that made them a decent price.
So I went up to the register. I started with the Softsoap. $4.99 each – got me the $15 total I needed for some major coupons. I used the $1.50 Softsoap coupon from the ads on Sunday, a $3 off 15 beauty products and $5 off 15 purchase from CVS (that’s $9.50 in coupons). My total payout was $6.03 and I received a $14.97 ECB credit!
Next was a problem. The computers were overriding the March sale on the Colgate, so the manager was called over. He said if ECBs did not print out he would take care of it since it was clearly right to the end of the month. Sure enough nothing printed at the end. I was charged $11 for BOGO toothpaste (3 offers for the 6 tubes). He told me to get $15 of free things. I tried to get the wipes, but when those were put through with my $15 free it was a no go there. I asked him to please reverse that and give me the $15 credit back and we would call it a night. He said he would just give me the cash back.
So the end result of my trip was that I spent about $17 of my own money. With that I received $14.97 in ECB for my next CVS visit and he handed me back $18 in cash!!! See I was paid to shop at CVS – LOL! I will likely head back later to get two more of the Softsoap and a few of the new April monthly buys.
Tonight there was a full lunar eclipse. I had wanted to head out to view it, but a migraine got me and I fell asleep at the start. I woke up and did not know where JL was. Eventually I looked outside and saw him standing out in the cold with his tripod and camera. I called him on the cell phone (I was in PJ’s and not going out at that point). He reminded me about the eclipse. I eventually sucked it up and went outside with a coat over my PJ’s. It was amazing to see how clear it was and the red glow in the sky.
Here are eight of the sixty plus photos that JL took. They were my favorites when looking at them quickly.
The next full lunar eclipse will not be until December 2010. I can not wait to see all of the other photos of this event that other people have to share.
Heather over at OMSH is having a giveaway for some amazing art by Allison Strine Designs over at Etsy. What she is asking people to do is spread some bloggy love for people out in the blogosphere. Here is what she said:
By midnight (CST) on February 8th, you must spread some love yourself. I want you to write a loving, uplifting, encouraging, generous, complimentary post about one, two, three, four, or however many you like, of your favorite bloggers.
Put some thought in it – not just a blogroll, m’kay? Let your adoration ring! Pssst…No extra points for it being me – this is a drawing, not a contest.
Right before my Blogoversary (last week) I actually posted a bunch of thank you blurbs to people out there that have encouraged me to blog (OMSH was actually one of those people). It was sort of similar to what she is asking here, but still I will challenge myself to expand on what I previously wrote.
In that entry I casually mentioned Renee. Renee is one of the May07 Mommy bloggers that I met online while pregnant last year with JSL. Renee has a blog called Life With My Special K’s. I do not believe that Renee knows how much she assisted me back in early December of 2006. Two days before my 30th birthday my OB called me after work. I knew something was not right when I saw the number on the caller ID. He was telling me the results of a blood test that I had taken. The test came back that I had a higher risk of my baby being born with Downs Syndrome. I was beyond depressed. This news ruined my birthday and left me feeling ill. I did not know what to do. I turned to my mommy group where Renee saved the day.
How did she do this? Well, Renee had actually had the opposite result with the same pathetic test. Her result came back within normal range and her third beautiful child Kennedy was born three years ago with Downs Syndrome. Renee coached me to look at all different medical websites about the so called test and how useless it is, sent me to Downs Syndrome groups, and spent hours online chatting with me. She also helped me to realize that I had to know what was going on with my baby. I did not want to wait until the baby was born. I opted to have an amnio so that I could prepare for whatever my baby may or may not have. We were blessed with a happy and healthy little boy, but thanks to Renee I knew that Downs Syndrome was not a curse.
Renee is such a strong woman who continues to amaze me day after day. While we were pregnant last year Renee’s daughter Kennedy was diagnosed with leukemia. Soon after that (I think I am getting the sequence correct) she was told that she had gestational diabetes. Renee worked through this while keeping her family going. She changed her diet, stayed with Kennedy during all of the pre-chemotherapy tests/hospital stays, and got ready for her forth child. Then when her son was born in May she arranged to have him stay with her at the hospital while Kennedy was treated.
Renee has such strength and courage. In addition to being the mother of four beautiful children (Her Special K’s), Renee is a loving wife to one of our military heroes. Her husband was just deployed for another tour of duty in Afghanistan. He will be gone for 18 months (except when he joins the family for a Make A Wish trip to Disney this spring) and I know that Renee will keep her family going. She is a brave, strong woman who is a real role model.
Please stop by and say hello to Renee. This is a summary that she wrote on her blog:
Welcome to my blog where I take on day to day life with my four amazing children: Kassidy, Kameron, Kennedy and Keeghan, and a husband in the military. Join us as we face issues with Down syndrome, Leukemia, Deployments, and every day life with 4 young kids! You’ll be in for the ride of your life!
Thank you again Renee for all that you do :)
Today is Super Tuesday as we all know thanks to constant reminders in the media. I am excited to get to vote in the primary with the millions of other that will have the opportunity at one point today (hopefully). Why you ask? I will be honest it is mainly to know that at the end of the day the annoying telephone recordings from politicians will end. No less all of the polls calling to ask questions. At least for a little while things should be quiet around here. Plus it is interesting to know this is the start of an election of a lot of firsts.
The other day JL and I were actually talking about the upcoming election. No matter which of the four top candidates that are on the official ballot come November, it will be an election of many firsts. Most of these firsts are things that we would not have thought about in the past. Finally we have come to a point in time where almost anyone who wants to (and is crazy enough) can dream of becoming President of the United States.
Here are a few of the firsts if any of the top four candidates (as of this minute) are elected come Election Day. I am sure other first could easily be added to these with further digging.
Of course I can not help but mention Ron Paul (R). I believe if he was elected he would become the first president that could legitimately give a pelvic exam in the Oval Office. Sorry I had to do the gynecologist joke. And yes I know he who must not be named did not do a pelvic exam.
Lots of things to think about as the election season really picks up.
With that said I am off to get ready. JSL and I have a date to go and vote in the dinosaur voting machines that still are used here.
