The Day Before School 2012

Labor Day 2012 signifies the end of summer in our area. It is hard to believe that tomorrow both of my boys will be in school. One will be a fourth grader and the other a kindergarten kid. Over the weekend, I pushed passed this and enjoyed the last moments of the summer.

Views like the one below certainly helped to make me forget about a lot of things on my mind.

Saratoga Lake Views

Seeing smiles on the boys faces in the pool, made my worries melt away.

Pool time in Saratoga

It was nice to sit in the sun and watch the kids play, explore, and enjoy the time without a care in the world. Just kicking my feet up out of the sand and watching them enjoy the fun in the sun.

Today, we will spend a quiet day at home, enjoying time resting, remembering our special weekend with family, the summer we enjoyed, and gathering supplies for the first day of school.

Making Mini Golf Memories

There is something extra special about going back to a place that you went to as a child with your own children. Add in going with your parents to watch them with the grandkids, and it is even more magical. On the fourth of July, TechyDad was working to move his office to a new location. Nana and Papa decided to surprise the kids by taking them to a Golden Pond Miniature Golf in Clifton Park.

Clifton Park Golf

The place has not changed much since I went there as a child. They have kept it clean, in good condition, and possibly even made some improvements. While walking around, I had visions of my brother and I learning to avoid the water hazards, getting a hole in one in a certain location, and bringing our neighborhood friends there to enjoy.

On the flip side, I watched my father assist the kids with holding the golf club the right way. I saw my mother smile as I recalled certain items. Then, there was the laughter, running, and smiling from my boys.

Fourth of July Mini Golf

Although we missed TechyDad, we had a great time beating the heat on the shady golf course. I know the kids will definitely want to head back here again and I am sure we will. For me, it was not only about making new memories with my boys, but also reliving some special times from my childhood. It is always nice when a location from your past lives up to your expectations of years gone by.

What did you do with your family on the 4th of July?

Father’s Day Wishes 2012

When I met TechyDad, I knew that he was going to be a great father. Even before we were married, I watched him interact with the son of a coworker. It was hilarious to see him get onto the ground and play. Almost nine years ago, when NHL was born, TechyDad’s love for kids was shining even more. He loves to spend time with the boys, to show them things from his childhood, and to be a kid at heart with them. It isn’t every father that would show their kid just how to be a Star Wars geek.

Star Wars Geeks

Watching all three of the boys interact is fun. The boys love running, playing, talking about Transformers, Phineas and Ferb, and other things together. I have to admit, I was selfish when I asked them to take this photo together on our trip to Disney World a little over a month ago. I knew that I wanted a photo of the three of them together. I am so glad that I did.

The Boys at Epcot

Of course, I also want to mention my father. He has always been there for me, TechyDad, and the boys. Just this week, he got out of bed at two in the morning to drive me to the ER with JSL. There were no questions asked, he just came over and asked if he should stay.

Papa having fun

Watching Papa at Disney World on our trip was fascinating. There were times that he seemed to be more of a kid at heart. He was so delighted with the events and kept talking about them and still does. Papa also braved a zip line a few weeks later to do a special adventure just with NHL.

Happy Father’s Day to TechyDad, my father, my father-in-law, my brother, my uncles, and all of the other amazing men out there.

Shalom Preschool Shabbat

Dear JSL,

Yesterday, we had another milestone of sorts. I hardly mentioned it to you because you seem sad about the end of the year. I know it is hard for you to understand leaving nursery school and moving onto kindergarten. We have all grown to love the two years that we have spent as part of the amazing community within your school. Everyone has been supportive from the parents, teachers, to the amazing director.

Caterpillars and Butterflies

The milestone was your last Shabbat in nursery school. This was the last Friday that you were officially in preschool. It tugged at my heart to realize that, in less than a week, you will be a kindergarten kid. You will never have the chance to be the Abba, to say the blessings in school with your friends, or have challah to celebrate.

Shabbat Abba

We will have to cherish the memories of you being Abba on your birthday week. It was so sweet seeing you wearing your birthday crown and helping your class. I also captured a video of this, but do not have permission to share it here since another classmate is on it. I know one day we will watch that and smile.

Kiddush cup and challah for shabbat

The memories that you have from the last two years will last you a life time. You have learned so much about Jewish life, celebrations, and adore it. I know you will take this with you and share with your friends in kindergarten and beyond. I am so proud of all that you do and look forward to watching you continue to grow up before my eyes.

Love,

Mommy
