A beautiful spring day – ACHOO!

Yesterday morning NHL had his allergy testing done. They had to do five trays worth. I believe each tested for 6-10 different items (environmental, seasonal, animals, and food). My mother went with us to help with JSL so I could wrangle NHL. The nurse told us that she wanted to do the testing on NHL’s back. This allowed NHL to still have his hands free to color and do things to pass the 16 minute wait. He was NOT happy about this. Luckily the nurse allowed him to have an unfilled tray to test on his arm and all of us. He finally stopped fussing and allowed the nurse to do the test.

As mentioned yesterday (Houston he has allergies), several items were positively identified as allergen to NHL. Within minutes there were three that were very red and big. They were for trees, grass and I believe mold. Nothing else was too alarming that I remember. She did note that with testing on children there are often false negatives. So, the fact that these were SO drastic a reaction tells us that he is highly allergic to them. The nurse gave me a pack of information and told me to schedule a follow up appointment with the doctor. She also told me to go back to using allergy medicine until he tells us differently.  We go back on the 29th for the hearing test and the doctor appointment was on the 2nd, but is now the 7th. Silly Mommy forgot to sign up for swim lessons Monday. Thanks to this NHL was locked out of the Monday classes so we signed up for Friday.

So what does one do after allergy testing on a beautiful spring day when the trees that you are allergic to are blooming?

Ahhhhh. . . . .

In our house they first eat a popsicle that turns their tongue shades of purple and then we go outside to expose ourself to the allergens while kicking a soccer ball around.

Planning his attack on Daddy

I know, bad Mommy! However he is a 4 year old and does need fresh air and exercise. So we said the heck with it he needs to do something fun and we went outside.

First NHL was trying to get a soccer ball past JL and JSL.

Ready to block the soccer ball

JSL was good at blocking shots. Thank goodness NHL listened and did not really kick the ball at his baby brother. Looking back this was probably not a great choice of activities for the little guy.

My boys play together

Then it was time for NHL to be the goalie and JL and JSL to attack.

NHL's turn to be "goalie"

The little one was quite annoyed that he was not allowed to go down to play. He did not quite understand that he does not know how to walk on his own just yet. For now he had to be content with playing in Daddy’s arms.

Little guy wanted down to play

Of course he did manage to get into some trouble up high. He may look innocent, but nobody else is near the action to blame.

Guess who got Daddy's glasses?!?!

After a while JSL actually started to say "ball" and "kick". When he wanted the ball he said it and then as he was kicking he said that. It was too funny.

He actually said "ball" and "kick"

Of course then NHL thought it would be hilarious to take the ball and run away from his little brother.

Action shot

Although it was very bright outside, it was actually past NHL’s bedtime while we were outside. Good thing it was not a school night. This was a view above our house.

So light out, but really night

It was really nice to see JSL so happy. The poor kiddo just cut tooth #8. In addition to this we now see all four canine teeth coming in and the dentist told us at least three of the molars are moving. Check it out you can see the new tooth just cutting through.

Did I mention he says "mine" too

Of course he was not too happy when someone took the ball away. I was floored when he actually said "MINE" to JL. What are we in for if he already says that at 11 months old?

Big ball - little monkey

Here is what I mean.  He was baby yelling at JL for taking the ball.

Hey - I want that!

We all had a really nice evening outside. The boys played soccer, then NHL had fun with new bubbles and the little girl in the house next door. A wonderful evening, even if we ended up sneezing.

Daddy and his little boy

I love this photo of JL with JSL in his arms. I thought I would use it to wrap things up.

Nursery School Passover Seder

Ready or not, Passover is coming quickly (officially begins next Saturday evening). Since next week is April break, NHL’s school had their Passover Seder that parents were invited to this week. So, yesterday my mother, JSL and I went to NHL’s school for their mini-Seder. It was absolutely adorable to watch NHL, especially when he saw that Nana was with us. Here are some photos and a video of the Seder.

JSL had a great time in Nana’s arms for the entire Seder. He loved watching all of the kids, especially his big brother.

JSL with Nana - a surprise for NHL

NHL sat down at a table with some of his friends, so we joined him to wait for everything to begin.

Patiently listening to the Passover story

This is how the table looked when we sat down. In case anyone is curious the tongue depressors represent the shank bone that is on the Seder Plate

The Passover table at school

Before we were able to try the Passover foods the kids all performed some Passover songs for us. Here is a small part of my favorite song. It was too funny hearing all of the little ones singing the chorus in the halls prior to this. As you will see some knew the other parts, but they all chime in for the chorus.

NHL loves to perform. As you can see he was quite happy when he was going back to the table after singing.

All excited after singing songs

NHL gobbled up everything that was on his plate (although he was not in love with the radish).

YUMMY - fun stuff to try on the seder plate

JSL was able to try some of the Charoset thanks to it being a nut free building. Nana said he loved it!

Trying some Charoset

Of course the kids did not have wine, instead it was grape juice all around.

Drinking his grape juice

A fun little seder for all. I am SO thrilled that NHL was able to go to this school. I have fond memories of it when I was little and I know he will too.

Wii have big boy back in school!

What? You mean the Wii and NHL going back to school do not have anything to do with each other? Oh well, I guess these were just nice photos of NHL and Daddy playing with the Wii prior to the flu invading our house.  I claim still not feeling 100% for my cheesy title. After a week of two boys home and one of them so sick, I am thrilled to have things back to our so called normal status.

So now onto some completely unrelated Wii photos. The boys have a great time using the Wii, especially when they do a quick bowling game before bed. Here they are a few weeks ago. It is so much fun to watch them play. NHL gets so excited when he knocks down pins, especially when it is more than JL. He is a quick study too. He has figured out how to toss a wicked curve on his ball and how to control the speed of his throw. Not too shabby!

Now onto the Wii (be sure to hover over the photos to see captions):

Up and ready for his turn

Sitting down to watch Daddy's turn

 Trying to patiently wait

 Even JSL has fun watching

Starting to get tired before bed

JL already called to report that drop off at school went really well. NHL was excited to see his teacher and ran into the room. Hopefully the rest of the day goes well. With any luck JSL and I will head out on a few important errands in a little while. No rest for the mommy!

My First Knit-A-Long

Wahoo! I officially finished my first ever knit-a-long (KAL) and it was a lot of fun. I joined a Yahoo knitting group called Rachel’s Knitting Room. The woman who found the group is Rachel and she designs lots of amazing items that can be found on Knits by Rachel. The KAL this month was to celebrate the Yahoo groups first birthday. Each day of the KAY Rachel would reveal 10-11 rows of the design for everyone to knit. As you knit the mystery of the cloth is revealed.

I decided to take photos after each day to let everyone see how the KAL unfolded. Here they are in order.

KAL 3/17 - Rows 1-11

 KAL 3/17 - Rows 1-21

 KAL 3/17 - Rows 22-31

 KAL 3/17 - Rows 32-41

KAL 3/17 - Rows 42-51

 KAL 3/17 - Rows 52-61

 KAL 3/17 - All Done!!!

Congratulations to Rachel and Happy Birthday to the Yahoo group! I can not wait to try out my next KAL.

Weekend Party Mini-Vacation – Part 2

Saturday morning we all woke up from a rough night at the hotel. Thanks to nightmares, teething , and dreams of swarming ladybugs we slept in . . . at least for us. JL and I tossed on clothes while NHL and JSL stayed in pajamas to head down to the complimentary breakfast. The boys went down ahead of me so I could get myself set. By the time I was in the lobby NHL had already sat down and was chowing down.

Chow time!

After JSL’s seat was ready Daddy went to make the little guy a waffle.

Enough with the photos already - feed me!

JL making food for JSL

Finally his food was ready, so JSL checked it out and played with it for a little while.

Inspecting the waffles

When everyone was done with breakfast we went back up to the room. It was finally time to fulfill our promise of swimming in the hotel pool to NHL. JL and NHL put their swimsuits on and JSL and I went down to the pool to watch and take photos.

Here is JSL watching Daddy and Big Brother in the pool.

Mr. Serious watching everyone in the pool

NHL had a blast in the pool. He did not want to come out when it was time to go and get ready to pack up and head to the party. I think we now know we have to sign him up for swim lessons this spring and/or summer. Not only is it good for him to know how to do, it will be great for his muscles too.

Getting ready to go into the pool

Swim time with Daddy

NHL loved the pool

After an hour in the pool it was time to head back up to the room. We packed up, checked out of the hotel and were on our way to a 1st and 4th birthday party for Cousin S and A.

A special Wordless Wednesday coming tomorrow from the party photos and then the final post from our mini-vacation with photos from the Mickey Mouse and Pirate Party.
