Thanksgiving 2008 – Part Deux

Thanks to family time together, Thanksgiving was fabulous. The boys had a wonderful time playing. Did I mention that NHL loved JSL’s new music set?

Thank you Aunt A, the boys absolutely love everything! They actually have little squabbles over the drum sticks. We have had to go over that they are to only be used on the drum, not each other or the walls or various other objects within the house.

After resting for a little while, cleaning up and playing it was time to eat some yummy goodies. JL and I baked in the morning. I made mini fruit swirl cakes (thanks to my old neighbor Mrs. D for that amazing recipe) and JL made peanut butter cookies. JL also prepared two pomegranates as well. The pies were delicious and everyone felt the need to be healthy and have at least some fruit. The little guy enjoyed the fruit the most.

After eating JSL snuggled up with Mimi for some hugs and time on the steps. He did the same thing earlier in the evening with Aunt T.

Soon after this Cousin A brought down his new dog to meet the boys. JSL was curious and fine with her until she licked his face a little too much.

Once the dog was safely back upstairs the boys decided to do their own Thanksgiving Day Parade. For quite some time the two of them paraded around in circles after each other. They were so happy just chasing each other, singing and laughing.

After the boys were tired from running around it was time to pack them up and head home. JL had work the next day and the boys were fading quickly.

Thank you again to Aunt S and Uncle M for inviting us to their wonderful Thanksgiving feast. Being with family means so much.

Mitzvah Day Fall 2008

Have you done a mitzvah today? If you are not sure what this means, do not worry many people are probably curious as well. The term mitzvah, a hebrew word, has come to mean any act of human kindness. For further information about the historical meaning of mitzvah I will point you here.

People strive to do mitzvot in their everyday lives without making it obvious that they are doing so. Each year our synagogue has a Mitzvah Day in the fall where congragants go out into the community to do good for others. Some of the opportunities were to help out at the Ronald McDonald House, serve food at the local mission, and dance to entertain residents at a senior center.

The children from the hebrew school in grades K-3 were asked to participate in the dancing. NHL was very excited about this and wanted to go with his friends. We decided to participate. Everyone was supposed to arrive at our synagogue at 12:30 for lunch. When we arrived we were greeted by my grandmother working at the registration table.

After lunch we drove to the senior center for the dancing. NHL was quite excited and had a hard time waiting to get on the "stage" to dance.

Here is a shot of him dancing and having a fabulous time. He really is starting to understand the broad picture of what doing a mitzvah is now thanks to hebrew school.

Meanwhile JSL was a little antsy. At the end he decided to untie JL’s laces and have some fun.

This was a great experience and we look forward to future Mitzvah Days to participate in within the community.

Trick-or-Treat success

Dear Kid Saturdays at Cutest Kid Ever

Dear Dr. NHL,

It was so much fun watching you this Halloween. I loved seeing you at school during your party. You really enjoyed wearing your costume all day and your teachers thought it was funny that you picked your own costume.

This year you really understood the fun of trick-or-treating. Thank you so much for being such a fabulous big brother and telling everyone that your little brother, who was tagging along and collecting leaves in his pumpkin, was coming as well. I love you so much and am so glad that we had a special day together with Nana and Papa.

Dear JSL,

My little penguin from last year has grown up so much. You were such a cute liitle Mickey Mouse. Everyone in the kindergarten loved seeing you and you loved visiting them. You were not too sure about trick-or-treating at first. You really thought the pumpkin was for collecting leaves. Thanks to your big brother you soon realized there was more to it. By the end of the time out you were saying "Tri Tret" and "Than U" at most of the houses along with waving and chanting "bye-bye" to everyone. Thank goodness you still do not completely realize what it was you had in your pumpkin and did not ask for candy when we went back to Nana and Papa.

Fright Fest 2008

Several weeks ago we went back to Six Flags to get our photos taken for our new 2009 season passes. This time we decided to take the little guy with us and thought the big kid would love to go on some rides while there. JSL was mesmerized with watching the rides as he waited in line.

Thanks to a short rain storm, the lines were not too long. The boys were able to get some rides in before the rain started back up.

In addition to just taking in the rides, we were able to enjoy the Halloween atmosphere within the park. Starting in October the parks all participate in Fright Fest. If you have never been before it is absolutely amazing. They go all out. Every inch of the park has something Halloween-ish going on. Whether it is cobwebs, skeletons, or wandering characters you definitely get the feel for the holiday. Now if only they realized the Chain-Saw guy running around with the horribly loud noise was NOT very friendly in the afternoon for families with young children.

Even the park entrance was decorated going out to the parking lot.

This was likely our last trip to the park this year (they close this coming weekend), but we look forward to many more memories with our season passes in 2009!
