Music Box Debacle and Despicable Me

Dear NHL and JSL,

This morning, we decided to surprise both of you with a trip to Lowe’s for their Build and Grow event. We had not gone to a Lowe’s event in a while because they seemed too complicated and lacked reliable instructions. Still, when I saw the project this week, I thought it was cute and would make a fun present.

When we arrived, you saw the project for the first time. The mission was to build a music box for Valentine’s Day. 50 people had actually signed up for the event, so it was held on quickly put together platform “tables” with bucket chairs for people that wanted them. At this point, we should have run far, far away.

Project fail at Lowe's

We stayed and it quickly became clear to us that it was not a good situation. The instructions were NOT clear (Home Depot does a much better job) and several times parts broke when we tried to hammer a nail in. Daddy and I finally decided to pack you both up and head to another location. Both of you were very upset and JSL even cried. I do not believe that we will be heading back to Lowe’s anytime soon. Just not worth the stress involved in what should be a fun activity.

We went to a few locations, went home for lunch, and then went to the library for some more books and things. When we got home, we decided to watch Despicable Me together. It was so nice sitting on the couch as a family and laughing together at the movie. I hope we can do this again soon.

Love,

Mommy

A Magical Morning Moment

It’s official, there is magic in the air in our house. This morning, both of the boys woke up and started to talk while resting in bed. As I sat in my room, I could hear my kiddos chatting away. They were laughing, making plans, and debating with each other over favorites.

What were they talking about?!

Our upcoming trip to Disney World! It seems that the visit is now quite real to the boys. Once out of bed, JSL ran into tell us that his favorite part of the Winnie the Pooh ride is when we bounce like Tigger. Then he started to quiz us about eating with characters.

Those dreams do come true

My excitement comes in watching NHL and JSL. It helps to ease my fears about missing something when I pack, or not planning just the right meal. I know that no matter what, the boys will have a fantastic time and keep them wishing for another trip soon.

Of course, I am excited not only about our family time at Disney World, but about the second Disney Social Media Moms Celebration that I will be attending. Seeing good friends, meeting new ones, learning mountains of information, and doing all of this at Disney World. There truly is nothing better as far as I am concerned.

I am also looking forward to seeing several of my Disney Driven Life friends. It should be a lot of fun to catch up with them now that I am a part of the team.

On Tuesday, my latest post was published. Please stop by my EduMICKation post for this week: Geography Disney Style.

On that note, I should probably start to write some lists of things that I need to take on our next adventure to Orlando. Please let me know if you will be there, I would love to know.

Tuesday Tales – The Butt Book

Tuesday Tales

Did you just do a double take at the title of the book this week? Yes, there is actually a book for children called The Butt Book. Not only is this a book, it is an experience. Reading this is a time where you and your entire family can laugh, learn, and enjoy a book about your rump. Or if you prefer, you may call it your backside, rump, tushie, keister, heinie, derriere, or any other name you please. The end product is a fun book.

I first read about The Butt Book via a Tweet and went to check out the review. After reading this, I knew it was a book that I had to get for my family. We have read the book numerous times. NHL has read it to JSL. I have read it to the entire family at dinner (don’t judge – I had a captive audience). Nana read it to JSL. I honestly think we will be buying this after I return it to the library.

More about The Butt Book:

Tall butts, short butts, round butts, flat butts.

Butts on mummies and butts on mommies.

Butts on giraffes and elephants and dogs and… FISH?

Yes, even fish butts are celebrated in this tribute to backsides, rumps, tushies, keisters, heinies, and derrieres. Dozens of funny rhymes and pages of laugh-out-loud pictures pay homage to a body part that keeps kids and grown-ups giggling with glee.

Bottoms up!

The Butt Book – Written by Artie Bennett – Illustrated by Mike Lester – Bloomsbury Children’s Books – January 2010 – ISBN 978-1-59990-311-8 – $16.99 – Ages 4-8

What We Thought:

I think it is safe to assume that our entire family loved the book. We have not laughed and enjoyed a book like this in quite a while. As a parent, it is nice to find a story that captures the attention of not only the adults, but my seven and three year old boys. Even the teacher in me thinks that this book could have some fun enrichment opportunities in the classroom. Sure, kids will have to get their giggles out from using the word butt, after this it has a lot of extensions.

Inside The Butt Book

The fun words by Artie Bennett are captured beautifully in the hilarious illustrations by Mike Lester. The two go together and really make this book even more special. Of course, now that we have read this book, I want to know more titles by the author. When I went to his website, there is also a section all about The Butt Book. In this section there is a backstory of the book (love the puns), outtakes, words for butt (he lists 54), butt trivia, and a classic butt joke. I know my seven year old will get a kick out of this extension of the story. We will also be looking for additional books by the author to check into.

So what have you read recently? Please be sure to link up to your Tuesday Tales, Book Posts, and/or leave a comment below. Include something you read on your own, with a child or someone else. Tuesday Tales are all about spreading the love for books.

The widget within the review is an Amazon Affiliate where I will receive a percentage of money for the sale of the books should you opt to buy the book mentioned. As previously mentioned, I do plan on purchasing this book for my family since we enjoyed it so much.

I See the Light – a la Disney Every Day

My friend Amanda Tinney, from Disney Every Day, is up to it again. She is taking on a new Disney song and putting it into pictures. Just like in the past, the song is broken up line by line. People then submit photos with the lines on it. After this, Amanda does her magic and sets it up to music for the final video.

This time around the song selected is “I See the Light” from Tangled. I just volunteered to do a line again. Here is the photo that I sent Amanda:

And it's warm and real and bright

So what are you waiting for? Head on over to Disney Every Day and sign up for a line. Amanda said there are plenty still available.

Time For a Little Chuck E

Dear NHL & JSL,

This afternoon we went to Chuck E. Cheese. It has been a long time since we went there. As a family, we tried to go there when visiting Bubbe and Grandpa (January 2008), but it did not go too well. JSL’s last visit to the one near here was in April 2009, before he turned two. You are quite a lot bigger now:

JSL catching a ride

Since JSL was invited to a friend’s fourth birthday party, we asked NHL if he wanted to go and play. Much to our surprise, you said yes, so we all went. It can be a bit overwhelming there, but you both had a great time. NHL, you went off and played with Daddy and had a blast winning tickets. You loved surprising me with your mega win. JSL kept clapping every time he got a ticket. It was so cute to watch. JSL, you are still not a fan of the Chuck E Cheese character, but you coped when he was around.

My favorite part of the day is the drawings that each of you had made with Daddy. Here they are:

Thank you for a day of fun and happy memories together.

Love,

Mommy
