Winnie the Pooh Prevails

It’s true, we went to see the new Winnie the Pooh Movie on opening weekend. Although I really, really, really wanted to see one of the Harry Potter movies before it is released on DVD, it will not be on opening weekend. I am okay with this. Sure, I stood in front of the door showing Harry Potter and whined for a minute, but I got over it.

It would have been magical (pun intended) to see Harry Potter with friends yesterday, but watching my boys laugh and smile for an entire hour was well worth it. I purposely put the little guy in his favorite shirt and I had my Eeyore shirt on. I had expected longer lines to get the tickets, but it was rather empty at noon. When we walked into the theater, we were the only people there. The boys settled in and were fascinated with the new kids previews before the real movie started.

Ready to watch Winnie the Pooh

We all really enjoyed the movie. It kept the interest of not only a 4 and 7 year old, but TechyDad and I really enjoyed it as well. There was humor that those who could read would understand, and silly things for non-readers too. I truly felt like I had been immersed into the Hundred Acre Woods with all of my favorite friends. Secretly, I was thrilled with how much screen time Eeyore had. TechyDad and I were also impressed  with The Ballad of Nessie that came on before the feature. This had such a powerful lesson within it that it could easily have a post for itself.

WINNIE THE POOH - Copyright DisneyIn the end, my only criticism was that the Winnie the Pooh movie was only about an hour and ten minutes. I wish it had gone longer. I wanted there to be more, but it probably was a nice spot to end. I will not spoil anything, but need you to know something important. When you go to see the new movie, do not leave before ALL of the credits are over. Several people in the theater left and missed something worth the wait. It’s Disney and you know there will be something at the end.

So before I go, I will share a little segment from the movie that Disney has released in honor of the movie opening on Friday. Enjoy!

Have you seen Winnie the Pooh or the last Harry Potter movie? If you have, please let me know what you thought (no spoilers).

Disclosure: My family and I paid for our own tickets to see Winnie the Pooh at Regal Cinemas. We had been invited to a screening of the film, but they were too far from us to attend. Our love for all things Disney meant that we had to share our experience and the clip from the movie for your enjoyment.

Bounce Time for the Boys

Dear NHL and JSL,

For weeks, we have been trying to take you to a new location to do some bouncing. On Friday, I spent the day getting laundry done while you played. I wanted to have it finished so I could spend the weekend with everyone and not have to worry about getting clothing clean.

When Daddy got home from work, we quickly got into the car and went to Afrim’s. On Friday night, you can bounce from 5-8 for $5. When we got there, there was only one other child. It was a bit warm inside, but that did not stop the two of you.

Ready to bounce

Before we knew it, we were the only people in the bounce area. The two of you ran from bouncer to bouncer. Even though you could not get up one of the slides thanks to a broken part, you used it as a place to run through and bounce in. The space was perfect for the two of you to release a lot of energy.

The Bounce Place Was Ours

One of the bouncers has a small climbing wall and punching spot within it. Both of you really liked this. I was especially shocked with JSL’s monkey climbing skills.

After a while, even Daddy was tired from watching you run, bounce, slide, punch, and climb. Lucky for him, there was a nice comfy couch to rest on.

Tired TechyDad

After about an hour, the two of you looked like tomatoes running around. It was really warm, you were thirsty (we didn’t bring water bottles) and Daddy was hungry. So we packed both of you up and went to get some dinner. I know that we will probably head back to the bounce place, but it may be on a cooler day since it is quite warm in there. Still, even with the heat we all had a great time together.

Love,

Mommy

Cherries On My Mind

Tuesday Tales will be on hiatus today. Right now, I have cherries on my brain. You see, we went cherry picking with my brother and his family and there were a lot of cherries to pick from.

Here are a few photos I shared via my cell phone while we were out in the amazing cherry wonderland.

 Lots and lots of cherries

We all had a really great time at Kappus Farms. The tractor ride to the sweet cherries was an extra perk for the kids. All of the cousins picked countless cherries and added them to our two large buckets of fruit.

 Cherry picking fun

When all was said and done those buckets seen at the top held 45.2 pounds of cherries. Yes, we have a lot of cherries that we will be sharing with others, eating, and possibly even baking with.

Have you ever gone cherry picking? If you have any good cherry recipes to share, please let us know.

Oh and if you were wondering, this was a new cherry picking record. Three years ago, we picked 22 pounds, last year 33 pounds. Hmmm… does that mean next year will be 55+ pounds?! I guess we will have to wait and see.

Shrinky Dink Memories

Dear NHL and JSL,

The other day we went to the craft event at our library. I had heard that it was going to be something very different for the two of you. It was not new to me. No, Shrinky Dinks were part of my childhood. Yes, I remember making countless Shrinky Dinks with kids and later jewelry items.

When we got there the two of you had NO idea what I was talking about. You heard that it was time to draw on this strange paper, but never knew how special it truly was.

NHL, you decided to do a windmill first. Then, I drew you a big circle to fill in with something special to you. You drew the Tree of Life from Animal Kingdom. Sad to say that your first Tree of Life had a Shrinky Dink melt down and would not flatten back out. The librarian was nice and suggested that you try again, so you did.

NHL concentrates

JSL, you saw a ship and immediately declared that it was a pirate ship. I helped you to trace that so you could color it in. Then you took random colors for a modern creation in a circle.

Here are your final items. Each circle was a pendant and the other made into a magnet.

Shrinky Dink Fun

We all had such a fun time that I knew we had to find more Shrinky Dinks to make at home. So while at Michaels the other day, I bought this to test out:

Shrinky Dinks fun for home

I can not wait to have more Shrinky Dink adventures with the two of you.

Love,

Mommy

Crafty Start To Summer 2011

Thursday morning, I was not sure what I was going to do with the boys. Then, I saw something in my Google Feed Reader from A Frugal Friend. Thanks to Debra, I realized that Michael’s is offering a Passport to Fun Kid’s Event all summer long. I know I had received e-mails about it, but had likely ignored them. So we ran out of the house to Michael’s.

P1030737

The Passport to Fun book looks amazing. It is filled with great items about each of the places that you will visit during an activity at Michael’s this summer. Coming up this weekend is one for the United States on July 2 for Independence Day.

So where did we visit? We went to Canada. Quite fitting since today is Canada Day. Happy Canada Day to all of my friends to the north.

You probably want to know what they made, eh? Here are the Canadian inspired crafts that were shown to us:

The boys had a great time. The craft itself was cute and should have been really easy to do, but the glue was not behaving. Luckily we were patient and got the pipe cleaner to stay put for the Moose antlers.

Here’s the page from the Passport book about Canada and NHL’s finished project:

Oh Canada

The remaining events are always 11am – 2pm:

  • U.S.A. – Saturday, July 2
  • Italy – Tuesday, July 5
  • Australia – Thursday, July 7
  • India – Saturday, July 9
  • Russia – Tuesday, July 12
  • France – Thursday, July 14
  • United Kingdom, July 16
  • Japan – Tuesday, July 19
  • Greece – Thursday, July 21
  • Mexico – Saturday, July 23
  • China – Tuesday, July 26
  • South Africa – Thurday July 28
  • Brazil – Saturday, July 30
We missed the ones for Sweden, Germany, Egypt, and Bahamas. I know we will try to catch more of these events and others taking place this summer. Of course, while at Michael’s we picked up something to do on our own that was inspired by a craft at the Library’s event earlier in the week. More to come on that tomorrow.
Pssst….I thought this was cool and wanted to share. I have been given nothing by Michael’s since this is a free event for all. Just a big craft fan and love their store. For more on the summer program you can go –> here!

So my question for you this week:

What country would you have added to the Passport and why?

Pssst . . . be sure to stop by TechyDad’s Outback Steakhouse $45 giveaway.
