Fluffalicious has a Home

It is no secret that we love our cupcakes. We have explored many a tasty treats within the area and beyond. Still, our love for a cute pink truck has us watching to see what new and exciting things will be available.

Fluffalicious Cupcake Truck

When we heard that Fluffalicious was getting a new home, we waited to hear the news of their grand opening. That happened last weekend and we were not able to make it. Though we just went, we may have to go again next week for Small Business Saturday.

While TechyDad’s parents were in town, we decided to head over to the new Fluffalicious store. As we pulled up, we knew we were in the right place. We saw the Fluffy truck outside, and pink on the side of the building.

Fluffalicious Home

When we went inside, the boys did not know where to begin. They love the cupcakes from Fluffalicious, but had never SEEN them like this. When the cupcakes are in the pink truck, you are not able to view them and pick based on the look, just the sound and flavor.

Beautiful treats

As we were trying to pick things out to take home, I recalled a Tweet that I had seen. The Tweet mentioned that they would have Cherry Cheesecake Cupcakes ready at 3:00. It was just before that, so I asked. Sure enough they were ready.

Fresh from the oven

In the end we picked our four cupcakes. JSL wanted Triple Chocolate. NHL wanted the Hot Fudge Sundae. TechyDad and I wanted to try one of the Cherry Cheesecake and Boston Cream. Check out the beautiful cupcakes below.

We all enjoyed the items that we selected and I am sure we will be heading back to Fluffalicious one day soon. Thank you for making these fantastic treats.

Cookie and Challah Monsters

Dear JSL and NHL,

Bubbe and Grandpa are in town this weekend. Since we are not able to be with them for Thanksgiving, they came up to spend time with all of us. On the way here, they stopped in Queens to get some special treats. They knew that the two of you really like challah. They also asked if they could get you a special treat at Violet’s Bake Shop.

Daddy told them that it would be okay for a special occasion to get you cookies. When we were out at dinner Grandpa mentioned that you may want to only have half today and the other half tomorrow. We couldn’t imagine why until we opened up the box. This is what we saw.

For the cookie monsters

The challah was also really, really, really big! Check it out next to Daddy’s head:

Who knows what other surprises there will be the rest of the weekend.

Love,

Mommy

Angry Birds Boo-Boos

Saturday morning, I went out to get some errands done while the boys stayed home. First, I went to the craft store to get some yarn. After that, I wound up at another location to check out some Chanukah present ideas. While passing by the pharmacy area, something caught my eye. There were Angry Bird band-aids sitting on the shelf. I had never seen them before and thought the boys would adore them.

I have to admit, I have never played Angry Birds. Part of the reason is probably because the boys are so into it and I am not given any time. So, although I am quite familiar with this photo, I do not GET the game.

Do you play Angry Birds

What I do get is that my boys, all three of them including TechyDad, love the game. They bond over it and have even gotten Papa into the act with his iPad.

Angry Birds time is serious

Back to Saturday. When I got home, I told TechyDad that I bought something special for the boys. He saw the band-aids and took them out to show the boys. The boys were so excited and could not stop thanking me for buying them. Then, it got quiet as I put groceries away.

A few minutes later, a scream happened from the other room. It was one of the boys. Can you see where this is going? Yes, the boys were claiming left and right that they had injuries and boo-boos because they NEEDED an Angry Bird band-aid.

Angry Bird Boo-Boos

The boys eventually stopped “hurting” themselves to get one of the new prized items when we went out on some missions to explore a few new to us locations. Of course, it did not end there. Sunday morning, JSL screamed that he needed a band-aid because he had a boo-boo on his finger. We looked. Nothing there. A few moments later, he came back and declared it was killing him and he needed a band-aid now. The funny thing was that the finger location had changed. My theory is that he had a Mel Brooks inspired mole moment. If you watch his movies you will know what I am talking about.

So fess up, are you a fan of Angry Birds? Would love to know how these little critters have changed your lives since they became so popular.

Retro Candy Treats

Over the weekend, I was away with my parents for a family bridal shower. Before we came home, we stopped at a local store to get some items to bring back home for the boys. As I passed down an aisle with sweet goodies, something caught my eye. This is what I saw:

Charms Memories

So many sweet memories of having Charms and Original Charms lollipops (not the ones w/bubble gum in the middle). When in Hawaii and stuck on a road thanks to lava flow, the Charms in my purse helped my mother as her sugar dropped dangerously low. When I saw these, I had to get them to bring home for the boys –er  for all of us.

So my question to you this week:

What sweet or other treat from your childhood would you love to find to share with your family now?

National Diabetes Awareness Month

Nana and BuzzIn 1980, the world changed for my family. Not only was it the time that my mother was pregnant with my little brother, it was also when she was diagnosed with gestational diabetes. For most women, the diabetes story ends once they deliver their baby. Yes, they are more at risk for developing adult onset later on, but it is something they just monitor. My mother was not as lucky. Her sugar remained high. She was put on a low dose pill and for years and years it kept everything in check.

Many years later, my mother’s sugar spiraled out of control. She started to see an endocrinologist and was put on insulin, told to monitor her blood levels multiple times a day, and to change her diet. I am happy to report that with diet changes, doctor monitoring, and new advances in medicine, my mother is no longer insulin dependent.

P1060229TechyDad and I worry about diabetes. It is a factor that both of us need to think about. You see both of our mothers are diabetic. Watching my mother’s battle with diabetes has inspired us to watch our carbohydrate intake, increase multigrain products, and use different sources of protein in our diets (egg whites, quinoa, tofu, and others). A staple in our house are packages of egg whites. Thanks to a fantastic little steamer, we can make omelets in the microwave using All Whites in less than a minute. We simply pour the number of ounces that we want into the steamer and place it in the microwave. If we want to be fancy, we add in fresh vegetables and/or soy bacon.

November is National Diabetes Awareness Month. As a member of Global Influence, I am participating in a sponsored Fit2Fight Campaign from Better’n Eggs to get the word out. As you can see, diabetes is part of my world and we try to make healthier eating choices. Here is a new recipe courtesy of All Whites that I hope to try one day soon that would make a great diabetes friendly option with lots of protein and vegetables.

Remember that diabetes is something that all of us need to think about. By living healthier lifestyles and picking better food options, we will help the battle. The reality is that Type II diabetes is a preventable disease that affects 25.8 million children and adults in the United States. So take a stand and help spread the word.

How has Type II diabetes affected your life? I would love to take the time to share those that we know who have had this disease in their world.
