Thanksgiving 2011 Memories

We had a relatively quiet Thanksgiving this years. The boys and I went to Nana and Papa’s house for the day and just lounged around. Wednesday night, I baked a Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cake. We brought the items to make the Asian Salad that my parents requested. Happy Thanksgiving

When we got to the house, the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade was on. The boys watched on and off as they were being goofy.

Silly Turkeys

The turkey was finished really early on. My mother opted to buy a turkey breast, not the whole bird, and it turned out to be the perfect size for the six of us.

Turkey Time

Once the turkey was done and everything else ready to heat up later on, we all piled into the living room to have some snacks for lunch. There is just something fun about finger foods before sitting down to Thanksgiving dinner. Oh, much to my amazement, the little guy gobbled up hummus. I was floored and had to take a photo to show him later in case he refuses to eat it again. Lunch food fun

After this, it was time to grab a seat and start watching Cars 2. We never had a chance to get to see it over the summer, so it was a first for all of us together. Cars 2 Time

We did not finish the movie at that point. The boys needed to play and get some energy out. Then, it was time to get dinner into the oven to heat and time to serve.

Once all of the food was ready, it was time to grab out plates and sit down together for a wonderful meal.

Delicious Meal

When we were finished eating, some went off to relax – and others helped to clean up. JSL was really into cleaning with Nana and Papa. NHL appeared to be exhausted thanks to eating turkey.

After dinner

Once dinner was over, we finished Cars 2 to digest our food. Then, it was time to have dessert. We had pumpkin chocolate chip cake, chocolate rugelach, and dark chocolate peanut butter ice cream.

Sweet Ending

After this, we got the boys into their pajamas, watched a little television, and went home. It was a wonderful day with family making some wonderful memories. Thank you Nana and Papa for inviting us to be with you.

What did you do for Thanksgiving this year?

Thankful for Ohana

Thanksgiving and a weekend filled with family for my cousin’s Aufruf has me thinking. TechyDad and I are very lucky to have such wonderful people in our lives. Yes, our Ohana has always been there for all of us over the years.

In honor of our family, I want to share a special moment. When we went to Disney World in March, I really wanted to capture memories of the boys. JSL was finally getting into going to see the characters, but he was still a bit shy. Here are the boys at the meet and greet with Lilo and Stitch at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

It is amazing to see how much they grew and started to love the characters. JSL went from crying and clawing at them, to giving them hugs when he was leaving their side. Yes, this is what memories are made of thanks to Disney loving Ohana.

Aufruf Learning

Dear NHL and JSL,

Although both of you have been to a Jewish wedding and remember it, an Aufruf is something new. NHL went to one for Uncle I, but you were younger than JSL is now and do not recall much. Of course, I have memories of when Daddy had his Aufruf. I remember going up to the bimah and dancing around with the rabbi and cantor. Then, we had to run for our lives as everyone started to hurl bags of fancy candy in our direction.

This weekend, we are celebrating Cousin A’s upcoming wedding. Today is his Aufruf. He will be called up for an aliyah. Once they sing a song and everyone says mazel tov, it will be our turn to throw candy at the soon-to-be bride and groom.

To get ready for this, Aunt S asked if the two of you wanted to help make the candy launchers, –er I mean candies to be used. Tuesday after school, Aunt S and Cousin An came over with candies and supplies to make the goodies for shul.

Getting Ready for Aufruf

We had a lot of fun trying to figure out how to get the candies into the pretty package that we will send flying Saturday morning. These are the moments where we are so lucky to have family close to us to share these items with us. Looking forward to watching both of you chase down the candies that you helped to get ready.

Love,

Mommy

Mugs That Make Me Smile

Reality check. Thanksgiving is over and the cold winter is starting to really kick in here in New York. Some days something simple like a fun mug makes me smile early in the morning when it is so cold that I don’t want to come out from under the covers. Sure, a warm cup of coffee is great, but something extra special helps to make it even better.

I have had teacher mugs, Disney World mugs, Eeyore mugs, and many others over the years. Still, a new one that I just received has made toasty beverages like coffee, hot apple cider, and hot chocolate even better. Here it it:

Howdy Figment

Figment just makes me smile and reminds me of the first time that I went to Epcot at Walt Disney World. I absolutely fell in love with the Journey Into Imagination thanks to Dreamfinder and Figment.

 First time to Epcot

So my question to you this week is inspired by my Figment mug:

What is your favorite mug that you own, or ever owned, and why?

Thanksgiving 2011 Wishes

I wanted to take time to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving. May your day be filled with good food, fun, family, friends, and everything that makes you happy. Today, we will be spending the day with my parents. Preparing food, watching the parade, enjoying food, and watching Cars 2.

 Thanksgiving wishes

Tuesday, I joined NHL at his third grade class feast. It was a lot of fun getting to meet the children in his class, along with some of the very nice parents. It was really impressive to see how well behaved the class was and how they really cared for each other. Oh my, what a difference a year makes!

Third Grade Feast

JSL’s school had lunch together and then participated in an ice cream sundae party. Of course, we also were able to see the end product from his recent homework. The first turkey has the feathers that each child decorated the way they wanted.

Big Class Turkey

JSL asked to raid my sticker box. Inside there he found Thanksgiving stickers, Disney stickers, hockey glitter, and more.

JSL's creation

On another feather, we were asked to add items that we are thankful for. JSL kept rattling off items. His list  –> Family, My friends, Disney World, Sharing, Dinosaurs, Pirates, School, and Flowers. This is the class turkey of thanks:

Class Thanks

As we left for the long weekend, JSL handed us a turkey that he created with his foot and it was absolutely adorable.

Foot Turkey

The poem on the Turkey says:

This isn’t just a Turkey

As anyone can see,

I made it with my foot

Which is a part of me.

It comes with lots of love

Especially to say,

I hope that you have a very

HAPPY THANKSGIVING DAY!!!

In addition to the foot turkey, JSL also made another little one that he brought home. He was even nice enough to hold it for a photo.

My little turkey

So many things to be thankful for this year. I hope that everyone has a wonderful holiday spending it the way that makes you the most happy.
