Tuesday Tales – Kingdom Keepers Series

Tuesday Tales

Last week, I wrote about a new to me author that I found while in Disney World in March. I have to admit, I am quite addicted to Ridley Pearson and his amazing books. Today, I had planned on writing a review of Kingdom Keepers: Disney After Dark, but a sick little Buzz Lightyear has changed those plans.

I finished reading the first in Kingdom Keepers book solo. We are probably 2/3 finished as a family for read aloud and NHL really has been into it.  Last night, I started to read the second book and am also doing research for a Kingdom Keepers post on The Disney Driven Life. I guess you could say I really like these books. They keep me on my toes, involve my love for Walt Disney World, and are genuinely entertaining.

Three of the Kingdom Keepers Books

Here is a video that Disney made for the recent release of the fourth book in the Kingdom Keepers series. As you will see, Pearson will be taking the next book outside of the Disney parks to the seas and has stated there will be seven books in the final series.

Yes, there is a Kingdom Keepers field trip opportunity for students. Can I go back to school now? I would love this not only as a student, but as a teacher. I would love to hear from anyone that has done one of these experiences.

Living With The Land – Catch Me There

The sun was supposed to come out today, but it looks like that has changed again. After over a week of nearly non-stop rain, we are going a bit stir crazy here. The week has been filled with rain, headaches, and flash flood warnings.

Yesterday, when there was a break in the rain, we went to buy some vegetable plants. The cold and then constant rain did not allow us to start our modest little garden from seeds this years. Still, we are hoping to have some of our own tomatoes and zucchini (all that we bought at this point) to prepare with the boys.

Growing a garden has definitely been inspired by our love of Disney. This week, I wrote about being inspired by Epcot’s Living With The Land. Over on The Disney Driven Life, I make a connection with Epcot, growing a garden, and learning. Be sure to head on over to check out my latest on connecting Disney with education. My other posts there can be found under NDM183 – that’s me!

While at Disney World in March, I decided to capture a little video while on Living With The Land. Here is little teaser of the ride. You can hear my very active three year old in the background.

I hope to see you at A Disney Driven Life to say hello to everyone else that writes there as well.

Disney Junior – Live on Stage!

During our extended stay at Walt Disney World in March, we knew there was a new show at Hollywood Studios that we had to go to. Just a week or so before we arrived, the park opened up the revamped Disney Junior – Live on Stage! Prior to this, it had been a Playhouse Disney Live show, but was redone to go with the new branding.

The boys knew that Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Handy Manny, and Little Einsteins would be back. JSL recalled the previous show and was upset that Tigger and Pooh were no longer included. This disappointment quickly went away thanks to something else.  A new Jake and the Never Land Pirates part would be in the show and intrigued all of us.

This was especially true after the Disney Junior Party during the Disney Social Media Moms event. That was where the boys met THE Sharkey and Bones.

We knew that this show meant sitting on the floor, surrounded by other parents and children, but it was well worth it. Check out the excitement on JSL’s face just before the Jake and the Never Land Pirates section was coming on:

That happy little guy fell in love with all over again with his Disney Junior friends. Minutes later, the audience got really excited as Jake, Izzy, Cubby, Skully, Sharkey, and Bones came onto the stage.

Before we knew it, it was time for Captain Hook and Mr. Smee to add to the story line.

Now, I am kicking myself for not keeping the video on during the entire show. I will admit – my feet fell asleep sitting on the floor. Man, getting older is the pits. Anyway, thank you to Disney for creating a fun filled and interactive show that is perfect for young children.

Have you seen the Disney Junior Live Show? I would love to hear what you think.

Disclosure: Although we paid for our own trip to Disney World, we were given an incredible deal thanks to Disney. The sweet conference fee included 3 nights at the Grand Floridian, several meals for the entire family,  7 day park hoppers for everyone, conference/meals for me and some other items to take home. Also note that Disney never asked us to blog about this event. As a long time Disney fan, it is my pleasure to share my experiences from the event.

Tuesday Tales – Ridley Pearson Books

Tuesday Tales

Back in March, while at Walt Disney World, something caught my eye in one of the gift stores. We had just finished our adventure on Pirates of the Caribbean, so the boys were looking at all of the pirate goodies. Some books on display made me stop and look. The covers had Disney items on them, but they reminded me of the Harry Potter series. I took a photo of the books to research when I got home.

Three of the Kingdom Keepers Books

Yes, this was my introduction to the Ridley Pearson Kingdom Keepers series. Just a week or so later, Pearson was at Walt Disney World for the release of the fourth book in the series. I knew that I had to get my hands on the first one. I read about it and told NHL and TechyDad the general premise. We decided to do a read aloud of the book.

Yes, we have been reading The Kingdom Keepers: Disney After Dark together. I have a confession. I could not stop reading and have been anxiously reading ahead so I can move onto the second and third books that are already here from the library.

So, please excuse me. I have about 40 pages of my book left and really want to finish to tease the boys. Then, next week, I will be back with my review of this fun filled Disney series.

The Neverland Pirate Party Cupcakes & Crafts

This weekend was JSL’s 4th birthday. As I have mentioned before, he is a BIG fan of Jake and the Neverland Pirates. Since he wanted that theme for his birthday, we had to improvise a bit. I bought the supplies and pretty much knew what I wanted to do with them.

Saturday afternoon, I baked the cupcakes in the Wilton pirate wrappers. They were nothing special to look at now, but soon they would change.

The Start of Pirate Cupcakes

When I was preparing everything for the party Sunday morning, the first thing I wanted to get finished were the pirate cupcakes. I had my Wilton Dessert Decorator Plus, frosting, gold sugar crystal sprinkles, and pirate flags. Before I knew it, they were looking like this:

Yes, my little pirate was quite excited to see that his pirate cupcakes were finished.

After lunch, it was time to switch the table over to a Neverland Pirate Party theme. I had to take these items and make them look pretty on the table.

Time to set up the Pirate table

While I worked on this, the kids did some pirate arts and crafts. As you can see, we found some great items that worked well for several ages.

It did not take too long to get the table ready. The cupcake display with the doubloons around it was first. Then, it was time to put the Peter Pan Pirates in the front along with JSL’s cupcake and 4 candle. To tie in, we also had some cute pirate napkins to add a splash of color.

Looking like a pirate party

Yes, the props certainly helped to make it more of a Neverland Pirate Party feel.

After opening presents, JSL went over to have everyone sing his birthday song.

Pirate Birthday Boy

Yes, we pulled off a Neverland Pirate Party and the birthday boy seemed to have a wonderful time. More to come soon, but I wanted to share some yummy and crafty details now.
