Time to Give Hugs

Is there someone in your life that needs a hug, or maybe you do? January 21 is National Hugging Day™ and the perfect time to surprise someone that needs a good hug. Of course, everyday should and could be a day for a hug and I think I am a firm believer of this. I mean just look at this photo of my boys getting along and hugging each other, it could be contagious:

National Hugging Day - brother hug

Now, thanks to my bloggy friend Holly from Tropic Home and Family, I am going to Pay it Forward with someone else that I would like to give a hug to. I wish I lived closer to my friend Shannan (From Cribs to Car Key). She is such a strong woman, fantastic mother, and great person. She never judges, always listens, knows how to make me laugh, and dishes out great advice. Here we are together after we conquered the African Trek at Walt Disney World (thus the crazy hair).

Sending hugs to Shannan

Shannan has been there through a lot of drama in my life and helped me to keep a level head. She probably doesn’t realize how much she means in my life, but I am putting it out there for her to officially know. Thank you Shannan for always being a DM, PM, phone call, Tweet, text, or Skype call away. I know I will never be able to express what you mean to me, but you are like a virtual sister to me who I can complain to and gab about Disney with. Now we just have to figure out a way to get our states closer and meet up in person soon.

A huge thank you to Holly for sharing this idea – love it. It was also great to finally meet you and your family in December. FYI, she gives out a great hug as well.

Meeting Tropic of Mom

My question this week is inspired by Holly:

If you could give a hug to anyone right now (near or far), who would it be and why? If you would like to participate in Holly’s Pay it Forward project, click on the button below (those two cuties are Holly’s boys).

New Times at Disney

During our recent trip to Walt Disney World, TechyDad and I were able to experience a lot of Disney firsts. It was our first time flying alone since we had kids, our first time staying at Art of Animation, first time meeting Goofini, and more. Some of these seemed perfect to share this week for the “Disney Time” theme at Focused on the Magic.

It's Me

Disclosure: TechyDad was invited to the New Fantasyland media event December 5-7. Disney paid for his travel, our park tickets, room, along with some extra surprises. I was his guest and invited to special events, but paid for my travel and an extra night at the resort. Also note that Disney never asked me to blog about this event. As a long time Disney fan, it is my pleasure to share my experiences.

Magical Disney Coaster Moments

You either love roller coasters or you do not. I grew up going on them at a lot of amusement parks across the country with my father and brother. I fell in love with the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith at Disney’s Hollywood Studios the first time I rode it. Back in May 2009, I went on it with my father while the boys and my mother waited for us. It was Mother’s Day and it was fun to go on a coaster with my dad.

Hollywood Studios Coaster Time with Aerosmith

It really was love at first ride. The music, the lights, and the darkness make it an experience. It truly is the smoothest coaster that I have been on and I hoped to share it with others in my family one day.

Fast forward to this past April. My almost nine year old son was finally tall enough to go on Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster and even TechyDad was interested in facing some fears at Disney World. TechyDad, NHL, Papa, and I went on together while JSL and Nana wandered around waiting for us. TechyDad and NHL did not know that the photo is taken at the start of the ride. As you can see, one had his eyes closed, one is feeling the force of the blast off, and even I blinked.

Rock 'n' Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith with family

Definitely a magical memory and I was SO proud of TechyDad and NHL for trying the ride. Needless to say, when we were finished and the line wasn’t too bad – only two of us went right back on. Yes, it was father and daughter time with Aerosmith once again.

Dad had me laughing the entire time, as you can see above. It really was a magical end to our vacation.

Do you have a time when you rode with your parent or child that was special and captured by a photo?

Hakuna Matata Wishes for the New Year

Happy New Year to everyone! As we start fresh in 2013 and look forward to magical moments ahead, it seemed like the right time to give out some Hakuna Matata wishes. The theme at Focused on the Magic this week is for your January calendar shots. The two below and the messages seemed rather appropriate to start the year off with.

Magical Moments after the New Fantasyland Opening

When TechyDad was invited to go to the opening of New Fantasyland at the beginning of the month, my heart skipped a beat. This was especially true after my parents said they would watch the boys to allow us to head to Walt Disney World as a couple for the event.

I already wrote about the truly magical opening in front of Cinderella’s Castle. It isn’t every day that you get to hear Jordin Sparks sing, and Snow White, –er I mean Ginnifer Godwin officially open the wondrous new land.

Opening of New Fantasyland

Once all of the confetti had settled and people were rushing toward New Fantasyland, I asked TechyDad to do something different. Since we had already toured the area, we went in the opposite direction. I was a woman on a mission. Yes, we went toward Adventureland. It was a very warm day and a snack to cool off sounded good.

If you are a Disney enthusiast, you can probably guess where I am going with this. I was heading to Aloha Isle to get one of these to celebrate with TechyDad:

Dole Whip Float to Celebrate

The Dole Whip Float was the perfect item to cool off, reenergize, and  and get us ready to walk around and explore some more before lunch. We sat down to enjoy and planned our next location to visit. We walked all over The Magic Kingdom going on many rides before we left the park to head on a Monorail trip to see all of the resorts for the holidays.

So, have you ever topped off a day at Disney with a Dole Whip to make the day even more magical?
