Getting ready for Halloween 2010

Dear NHL and JSL,

The two of you are so excited about Halloween this year. Since you were both sick a year ago, we did not have a lot of celebrating to do. Last night, we went to the school Halloween party. The two of you got dressed in your costumes and were ready to go in minutes.

Off to the Halloween Party

When we got there, you both ran to the doors of the gym. Once inside, you were in love with all of the fun games to play. Of course, the prizes in the end were also a nice perk.

Then, after some pizza and a radioactive looking drink, you both decorated a pumpkin. JSL was so proud of his work.

Proud little Tigger

Today, we decided to carve our pumpkin. When it was time to do it, only JSL was really excited. Of course, that changed you were asked to touch the pumpkin guts. This was the first pumpking that we have carved (more about that soon).

Pumpkin Carving Time

Lots more fun coming tomorrow. I can not wait to watch the two of you trick-or-treating together, the way it always should be.

Love,

Mommy

29.5 pounds of apple picking fun

Dear NHL and JSL,

We were not sure if we would be able to get apple picking this year. The season started early and was close to a lot of the Jewish holidays. Then we had rain and other items crop up. Today the weather was chilly, but the rain held off. At 2:30, we called the apple orchard and found out they still have apples to pick. We jumped into the car and went there as quickly as possible.

Abundance of apples

We had a mission. With only an hour until they closed, we had to pick fast. We did not disappoint, picking 29.5 pounds of apples in less than an hour. It was so much fun watching both of you race around to get apples to add to our bags. When we spotted the pick your own pumpkin patch, both of you were quite upset that we were not able to get one here. The pumpkins were moldy, squishy and did not look like they would make it to Halloween.

No luck at the pumpkin patch

With tears in some eyes, we promised to get one from another location soon. So we went back to apple picking and, before we knew it, we had a bag and a half done and it was time to go.

Picking lots of apples

On the way back, we stopped at another location to get a pumpkin. For $5 we got a really nice one that we will carve one day soon.

Picking our pumpkin

Now, our picking seasons are over. Hopefully, we will get to go strawberry picking in June and make more family memories together.

Love,

Mommy

Apples and Abba

Dear JSL,

This was your first full week of nursery school in quite some time. Wednesday, you were supposed to go on an apple picking field trip. There was going to be a hayride and other fun activitities. Unfortunately, the rain had other plans. Well over five inches of rain came and would not stop over several days. Thanks to this, apple picking was not an option. Your teachers made some extra fun activities that were apple related this week. You were so proud to share your painted apple on the wall:

Some painted apple fun

When we walked into school Friday, there was a surprise waiting for you. You had one of the most prized jobs for the week. You were selected to be Abba for Shabbat. I wanted to take your photo next to the table, but you were a little stinker and refused. So I took a picture of the table.

Abba for Shabbat

When school was over, you were so proud to show me your Abba sticker and tell everyone about it and the grape juice. Yes, there is no doubt you really like nursery school, even if you are a bit clingy in the mornings lately. I can not wait to see more of your projects and visit one day when you are Abba to see you in action.

Love,

Mommy

Scholastic Book Fair Time

Dear NHL,

On Tuesday, you came home from school with a list of books that you wanted from the Scholastic Book Fair. Your list was rather long. I think there were at least eight books written down. You explained that two were books that you thought JSL would like. That made me feel so proud. When I went to the Book Fair to help out on Wednesday, I forgot your list with me. Before picking up JSL from nursery school, I went home to get your list. JSL and I went back to school to the Book Fair to check out your list. It was funny to watch your brother run right toward two of the books that were on your list for him. In the end, I bought four books. One was on your list, two you likely missed and would love and the last one something Daddy was interested in. Of course, we went back to the Book Fair the next day with Daddy. JSL cried when we were not going to get anything. We crumbled under pressure and got two additional books for the two of you. Once again, one that was on your list that you thought JSL would like.

Scholastic Book Fair

I guess it goes to show that we are easy to sell books to since we know how much you and your little brother love to read. I hope this continues and we will continue to add to our library at home.

Love,

Mommy

Bouncing with my boys

Dear NHL & JSL,

Today was a fantastic day. We were with a lot of family for cousin SG’s birthday party. This morning, they delivered a castle bounce house. The two of you were mesmerized. Many hours were spent in the bounce house and running/playing with everyone here. Of course, my memories will be when I spent time in the castle being silly with both of you and Daddy. Lots of great photos from there, but right now I am too tired to put them here. For now here is one of JSL dragging me out of the bouncer to go to the slide.

Bounce time

Thank you both for being silly, laughing, jumping and playing while making family memories with us today.

Love,

Mommy
