Chanukah 2010 with family

Dear NHL and JSL,

Tonight we went to Nana and Papa’s house. We decided to have Chanukah dinner there over the weekend so we did not have to worry about school or work the next day. The two of you were so excited because you knew that Mimi and Aunt T were going to be there.

As soon as Mimi and Aunt T arrived, the two of you were busy showing them your Chanukah presents from last night. The photo of the two of you was priceless. Of course, the timing of the gift was rather magical given the news that we received earlier in the day. Yes, we are going to see Mickey and friends thanks to the Disney Social Media Moms Conference.

Dinner was delicious. Nana made pierogies (favorite for both of you), along with latkes, veggies, tilapia, sour cream, and apple sauce. When dinner was over, both of you played. Then it was time to light the candles and exchange some presents. The two of you made out quite well. Toy Story 3 DVD, Bed Bugs game (UGH – Nana was trying to be funny with that one), a new Mario DS game, and Handy Manny game for the iXL.

Once we were finished with dessert, we all went into the living room to watch Shalom Sesame. This DVD was all about Chanukah and being in Israel. When it was over, it was time to head home since you were both exhausted. Here are a few photos from the evening on my new camera.

Chanukah Party 2010

It truly was a fun evening with our extended family (of course I wish more family had been here). I hope the two of you cherish these times as much as I do.

Love,

Mommy

Thing 1 and Thing 2

Dear NHL and JSL,

On Thanksgiving day we confused you and your cousins a little. We decided to exchange Chanukah gifts with cousin SG and BA. Since it was less than a week before it started and we will not be seeing them during the holiday, it made a lot of sense to the adults. Here are the four cousins all together at Nana and Papa’s house.

Then it was time to open the presents. Cousin SG and BA started with theirs first while the two of you waited patiently.

  Opening Presents

The two of you received a cool container filled with dozens of dinosaurs. Along with this JSL got an iXL Toy Story 3 game and NHL a Cars Mater game for the Nintendo DS. Then I was in love. When Uncle I and Aunt M were in Florida a few weeks ago, they asked sizes for the two of you. I knew that they had gone to Islands of Adventure and thought about asking them to buy you something. They must have been mind readers since they bought them as part of your Chanukah present.

Thing 1 and Thing 2

What the two of you may not remember is when JSL was born Daddy and I started to lovingly call you Thing 1 and Thing 2. That first Father’s Day we actually bought Daddy a Thing 1 and Thing 2 set at Build-A-Bear Workshop and he still has them in his office. I can not wait to see the two of you wearing these since they have so many fun memories.

Love,

Mommy

VReading Brothers

Dear NHL,

We have had a rough couple of weeks for many reasons. Even with everything that has been going on, you are almost always patient with your brother. Sure, there are times that you fight with JSL, but most days you love to spend time with him. The other day I came into the living room and found the two of you on the couch with the VTech VReader.

VReader buddies

You sat there with him snuggling up to you and explained how to use it. He asked you questions and you patiently answered them. These are the moments that I cherish. Thank you for being such a great big brother.

Love,

Mommy

Project pride

Dear JSL,

This week you had your first ever project for school. At three years old, you were so excited to do homework like your big brother. Your nursery school teachers asked us to make a poster that showed things that we like to do as a family. Completing this together, with help from NHL was a lot of fun. You helped me to pick out photos, then we went to get them printed off at CVS. Once we got home we plunked down on the floor with the paper, photos, photo glue, and my monster sticker box. You helped me to put the pictures in just the right spots. After I glued them down, you were able to go into my sticker box. This was the first time you had ever seen it. You were mesmerized with the different Winnie the Pooh, Mickey Mouse, Monsters Inc, Blues Clues, and countless other options inside.

You wanted to hold onto your project to show Daddy when he got home from work. Luckily I was able to get you to put it down to dry. On Friday, when we took it into school, you insisted on holding onto it as we left the house. Then when we got to school you clutched it tight and paraded into school showing everyone along the way.

Proud of his project

It was so much fun watching how proud you were of the photos, stickers, and project as a whole. Now I hope we can keep this excitement for homework alive for years to come.

Love,

Mommy

Thoughts of Florida dance in our heads

Dear NHL and JSL,

This week, we told you that Uncle I, Aunt M, Cousin SG, and Cousin BA were going to Disney World. It seems like Florida and Disney World in particular were on our minds.

Wednesday morning we woke up to this scene:

Frost on Car

JSL got into the car and we had the following conversation: "Mama what’s that?" You were pointing to the frost on the windshield. My reply: "That’s just another reason for us to move to Florida to be near Mickey Mouse!"

Those dreams do come true

Of course, I think you heard Mickey Mouse and just assumed it meant we were going there. At the end of the afternoon, I picked you up and told you that SG was going to see Mickey Mouse at Disney World. You immediately insisted that we get on an airplane and go right now. You did not understand that it was not something that we could just do. Tears resulted and you insisted we had to go and see Mickey Mouse and go on your Winnie the Pooh ride.

Luckily, a visit to Nana and Papa’s house stopped the crying. A little later in the evening, you asked for your Disney World hat and proceeded to parade around the house with your ears on.

Wearing his Disney World hat

Fast forward to Thursday night. I happened to mention to NHL that they were eating dinner at The Crystal Palace that evening and going to Boma the next night. NHL, you immediately stated that we had to go now and meet them at Boma. I think you really like it there.

B-day meal & First Mickey ear bars

So many wonderful memories of Disney World and our time there. Makes me so happy that you enjoyed and remember the time there. With a little Pixie Dust, we hope to be going again soon.

Love,

Mommy
