Wow, Wow. . . what a weekend

Thank goodness NHL’s eye is doing so much better. The antibiotic drops really seem to be helping. The croup cough will not go away, so I will likely give a call to the allergists office Tuesday when his doctor is back from vacation. Something needs to help him and perhaps it is using the nebulizer that has been sitting and collecting dust.

Before eating last night I decided to take JSL out of the house. He had been stuck inside all day. I wanted to get to Rite Aid because they had amazing deals on cold care items. There were two entire pages in thier ad of items that were free after single check rebate. I decided it was finally time to try something beside CVS and the ECBs. Below are all of the items that I purchased. The cost up front was about $43, but I should get all of that back in a single check rebate. Not too bad, especially since we are all battling things now.

When JSL and I arrived back home our pizza was ready. NHL had already eaten some and wanted to go watch television. He was so tired after refusing to nap all day. He was too afraid that his eye would close shut again. While JL, JSL and I finished dinner NHL went to relax on the couch. One minute he was chatting away, the next we found him like so:

Fell asleep mid chat

Something that the boys loved this weekend actually arrived at our door Thursday. It was the Wow Wow Wubbzy giveaway package that I won from 5 Minutes for Mom. Talk about perfect timing! The boys loved watching the A Tale of Tails DVD and each claimed one of the books. Here are all of the goodies that were included. Thanks again ladies!

Wow, Wow . . . what a win!

Something pretty exciting happend to the little guy tonight, details to follow soon.

Teething monster strikes again

Let me go on the record and say that the canine teeth are evil little boogers when they decide to come in. I vaguely recall these teeth being the worst when NHL was little, but my memory was quickly restored thanks to JSL. The little guy has been an absolute mess the last week or so. He does not want to eat, prefers nursing (YES he is still nursing) more often, will not settle at night to sleep, and is up many times during the night.

Last night was particularly bad. He did not settle until we pulled out the Motrin and gave it to him. Of course it helped him to get to sleep initially, but did not last. JSL was up at least 3-4 times during the night. After the second time he was up howling, he ended up in our bed where we all seem to be able to sleep some.

Prior to these evil little teeth pushing their way into JSL’s mouth, getting him to sleep at night was fairly easy. He loved to snuggle up with his new silky blanket and a pillow. Thanks to a great giveaway on An Island Life we were introduced to Kennedy Grace Boutique on Etsy. Cathi’s baby blankets are absolutely amazing. JSL quickly declared the beautiful silky soft new blanket his. We had Cathi make it with our last name so either of the boys could use it. NHL gladly allowed JSL to have it since he is quite attached to his "squeaky" blanket buddies.

Sleep time with favorite blankets

Thanks again to Kailani and Cathi for helping to make our non-teething night time routines so wonderful. I can not wait until these pesky teeth are in and JSL can go back to simply curling up with his silky blanket to have sweet dreams.

Baby cucumbers, thanks and busy weekend

For the last two years NHL has asked to grow sunflowers and other items during the spring and summer. Year one we had sunflowers in a patch of our garden. Apparently they were quite tasty – our friendly neighborhood bunny enjoyed them all. NHL was devastated. Last year we bought organic spray to keep those bunnies from eating the plants. Too bad the spray did not help again the hail that mutilated the poor plants.

This year we set out again to attempt to grow sunflowes. They grew nicely inside our front porch at first. Then we put them outside and brought them in when we heard storms were approaching. We did not have the heart to leave them outside after the history we had.

While visiting Aunt M during the 4th of July, she gave NHL a teeny tiny little cucumber plant. It was not looking the best when we got home. We loved it and cared for it ,no I did not talk to it, sorry I do draw the line. Before we knew it, the little plant had quadrupled in size.

Thursday when I arrived home from taking NHL to his summer program I noticed something by the flowers on the plant. Sure enough, there were teeny, tiny baby cucumbers growing! NHL was thrilled when he saw them. Just within the last 24 hours they have grown a lot more and quite a few more are now visible. Wahoo!

The sunflowers are still growing nicely. One is so close to opening up. I have a few photos, but will upload those later. We just hope that the pesky birds do not destroy the flowers once they open. The birds have already taken every rose that bloomed and our gorgeous lillies as well.

Oh, we did learn a lesson. Next year we will get the already grown plants and not even bother with seeds, too much work and they never seem to grow as well.

Did you win anything during the Bloggy Summer Carnival? I did!!! Two items actually, plus I gave one away.

One of the items actually arrived this week. You should have heard me jumping up and  and yelling when I saw the package as I opened the door. NHL and JSL surely must have thought that Mommy had completely lost it.

This is what was inside of the package that I won from Christina at A Mommy Story

Prize won on the Summer Bloggy Carnival

Seriously, I was the lucky winner out of 548 entries to get the Nintendo DS that she was giving away! Secretly I had always wanted one, but never could justify it. We talked about it for NHL’s birthday, but again could not see spending the money on something at this point. I was blown away when I received the e-mail from Christina telling me the news. I have used the birthday money that I never spent from December and bought a few games. We are also looking into some more kid friendly ones for NHL. He is anxious to test it out, but we are waiting for the screen saver to arrive first. For now he helps me out.

Say cheese Nintendo DS!

Any suggestions on games for a mommy that loves puzzles and things like Dr. Mario and Tetris or for an almost 5 year old little boy would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again to Christina for her generous gift.

This weekend is action packed. Today we will spend the day at the lake with family to celebrate my father’s 60th birthday. It should be a great day of playing in sand, swimming in the lake/pool, and going on the boat. After we get home JL and I have to prepare foods for NHL’s family 5th birthday party on Sunday. We already baked the giant cupcake that will form the volcano and put it in the freezer. So much to do and so little time. Eventually I will catch up on NHL’s birthday party from last week with his friend IA. Of course Mommy also needs to sit down and cry to write about her big boy (technically still my baby) turning five on Sunday.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone.

Winner and many thanks

Thank you to everyone that stopped by my Bloggy Giveaway for summer 2008. I hope to see many of you back here as regular readers to TheAngelForever. It was great meeting everyone that stopped by. I also surfed the Bloggy Carnival myself and entered a bunch of other giveaway.

Last night at about 8:15 I ended my giveaway and went to Random.org to select a winner. I entered 1 to 108 as possible choices and the following was the one chosen:

 And the winner is . . .

Congratulations to Shilo who said that she likes to eat ice cream in the summer. I have already contacted Shilo and she has replied so I can start to make her prizes. Since she has two little ones at home I am making each of them an M&M cloth in their favorite color.

Looking back I have to thank some other people for giveaways that I have won from them. NHL decided to check out all of the things with his handy dandy binocular that he made at school the other day.

What do I see?

  • First a thank you to Laura Williams for the great Tagasaurus that I won. Unfortunately, I am unable to get a photo of it right now because my son ran off with it and claimed it as his. I guess you can tell he really liked it!

  • Thanks to the ladies at 5 Minutes for Mom and Kutoka  for the fabulous Preschooler CD Roms to help my son with reading. We are going to try to set those up this weekend since they arrived late this week. We know he will have fun getting to know Mia.  An additional thank you to the company for tucking in a note reminding me where the prize was from so I can give credit. Sometimes with Mommy brain I can forget. Here is a look at the goodies that arrived Wednesday.

Early Reading software prize

  • Handmade jewelry is such a special item and I was lucky to win a gorgeous necklace and earring set from killlashandra at Full Time in New Mexico. She had no clue that I love purple and below is her gorgeous creation that was made as a prize for her blog anniversary.

  • Last, but certainly not least I would like to thank Carrie at Reading to Know for the What Does Baby Say? book. My oldest son saw the package and immediately asked to open it. He quickly took the book to sit down and read. The little guy and I have started to look at it as well. He is fascinated with the easy to use flaps that are in the book. As a teacher I LOVE books and hope to share this passion with my boys. Here is NHL after he opened the book.

Baby learning book arrived

Again thank you to everyone for all of the bloggy giveaway fun! Have a great weekend!

Bloggy Giveaway Carnival Time – Summer 2008

Once again it is time for the quarterly bloggy giveaway from BloggGiveaways.com (running from July 28th to August 1st). I had planned on joining in on the last one, but ran out of time with all that was going on. I am all ready to go this time. Welcome to everyone visiting, please take a moment to look around and please come back again. I love meeting new bloggy friends and especially enjoy comments!

 Bloggy Giveaways Quarterly Carnival Button

This time around I am giving away some chocolate goodness that will not melt with the summer heat. Up for grabs for one lucky reader is the following:

Part of my bloggy carnival giveaway

A magnetic note pad with M&M and M&M note cards. In addition to this I am going to make the winner their choice of address labels and I will be knitting up an M&M cloth designed by Enid Danforth that you may view here. Not sure what color the cloth will be, I have to look at my yarn stash. Of course if the winner would like to select a color this may be an option if you are willing to wait a few extra days for the custom cloth. Or, if the winner  would prefer one of my DW cloths that can easily be arranged in many different colors choices.

Some DW cloths I made

I will open up this giveaway to anyone. To enter just leave a comment in the comment section telling me one thing that you love about the summer (this must be included or your entry will not count). Be sure that I have an e-mail address that I can contact you for mailing address after the giveaway is over. I will use random.org to generate a winner from the comments. This giveaway closes at 8:00 pm EST on Friday, August 1st.

Only ONE comment per person, otherwise you will be disqualified.

Bonus perk –>  If over 300 comments come in (there were 442 last time I did the Bloggy Carnival), I will also toss in a Target gift card for at least $5.

Thank you for stopping by TheAngelForever. If you are new here please feel free to bookmark my blog or add me to your feed reader. Best of luck and happy giveaway hunting!
