Cooking with TechyDad

As many of you may know, my hubby also blogs. TechyDad has a regular feature on his website called Cooking With TechyDad. Here he shares items that he has made for our family, along with a lot of photos of the cooking/baking process.

Recently, his new passion is to use purees in items to try to sneak in some extra veggies for our family. Would you have guessed that these two sweet boys are picky eaters?!

Big brother helps with nap time story

This week, TechyDad is kicking off Sneaky Weeky. Today, he posted about preparing purees a la Missy Chase Lapine –  otherwise known as The Sneaky Chef. Be sure to head over this week to check out some of the recipes that our family have enjoyed. The best part is, I know our boys are getting extra vegetables into their diets eating foods that are healthy for them.

Previous Cooking with TechyDad recipes include:

Chocolate, Peanut Butter and Mashmallow Dessert Pizza

Slow Cooker Bean Soup

Mock Crab Cakes

Tie-Dyed Cheesecake

Eggplant Italian (for the slow cooker)

There are several others. You can find them by looking under the cooking area on the website. I hope you enjoy browsing and know that many more delicious recipes are coming soon. Remember, as a taste tester I know!

Spotlight on PR

My online friend Tara from  Feels Like Home and her friend at Adrienne’s House  are reaching out to help fellow bloggers in our quest to reach out to PR professionals and build lasting relationships. A huge thank you to both of them for all of their hard work on this wonderful idea.

Spotlight

To those coming over from Spotlight on PR, hello and welcome to The Angel Forever. I started this blog back in February 2007 as a place to come and write about the happenings of my life. At the time, I was pregnant with my second child, teaching, a mother of a 3 year old son and blogging novice.  My blog was a nice location to write down my thoughts, share with family/friends and capture cherished memories for my boys. So much has changed over the last two years. I am now a stay-at-home mother to my two sons (almost 6 and just 2). Over the past year, I have blogged almost every day . . . and I look forward to it.

The Angel Forever is not only a blog about my life as a mommy, it is about life in general. Some of the items I blog about these days:

  • Transition from teaching to being a stay-at-home mom
  • Life as the only girl in a house of boys
  • Jewish traditions/holidays
  • Books that we read
  • Items that we enjoy (toys, video games, execise DVDs, electronics, kitchen gadgets, and music just to name a few)
  • Disney World vacation planning with kids
  • Toddler tantrums and potty training (coming soon)
  • Being the parent at school and not the teacher
  • Review items sent in an honest voice where I give pros and even cons when I see them (see my blogging with Integrity button on the right)
  • Battles with doctors, allergies, fevers and other health related "fun"
  • Crafts, especially my knitting hobby
  • Meeting friends and becoming sisters with amazing women online
  • Keeping a kosher kitchen and mostly vegetarian household
  • Educational trips/visits
  • Baking and recipes

As you can see, it is quite the mix of items, but that is what my life is all about. My husband, boys and extended family are the most important aspect of my life. They help me to be creative and explore the wonderful and wacky world of blogging. Building relationships with people all over the blogosphere has been a wonderful opportunity that I have had thanks to The Angel Forever. Communication is key and if you would like to pitch an idea to me, know that I will respond quickly with my thoughts. I look forward to hearing from you.

My Blogging Sisterhood

Growing up, I always wanted a sister. Do not get me wrong, I love my brother, but there are some things that you can not chat about with your younger brother about. Eventually, I grew up and became a mother. While pregnant with my oldest son, I joined an online Mommy group. Six years later, a core group of us still remain active. I not only became friends with these woman who had children the same age as my son, they became my sisters. We talked about everything from giving birth, nursing, marriage, life and the list goes on. When my water broke, I actually stopped and e-mailed all of them to tell them the fabulous news.

Fast forward to February 2007. I was pregnant with my second son and started to blog. I was suddenly thurst into a completely new world. Thanks to the blogosphere I met many amazing women online who helped me to smile as I was dealing with the death of my grandfather, febrile seizures hospitalizing my son and learning to be the mother of two little boys. While I sat nursing my infant, I made connections with people that are still in my life today.

Right after my son was born, I became friends with CityStreams through an online Flickr Swap group. We had so much in common, yet we were so different. We had both left a medical profession for a teaching career. Her first born was due soon after my youngest was born. I followed her adventures in the south, as she laughed at my battles with snow and ice. I watched as she became a police officers wife, and she saw me transition to being a stay at home mother.

Another one of my online sister’s is Renee. When I was pregnant with my youngest, she was the support I needed during a major scare. We were not sure if our baby had Downs Syndrome. Had it not been for online group and blogs I never would have met Renee and her Special K’s. I love keeping in touch with her family and seeing all that they do.

So to me . . . You Know You’re a Sister… when women who used to be complete strangers come into your life and change you. They become a part of you and you genuinely care about them and they care for you, even from a great distance. Through tweets, comments and online talks they motivate me and bring a smile to my face. One day, I hope to meet many of my online sisters, perhaps even at the Type-A Mom Conference in September so I can have photo evidence of me with my sisters!

 sisters

This blog post was written as an entry for a chance to win an all-expense paid trip to the Type-A Mom Conference in Asheville, N.C.   The Sister Project is running a contest to give one lucky blogger an all-expenses paid trip to the conference, as well as two additional prizes. This post is my entry in that contest, which asks entrants to fill in this blank-”You know you’re a sister when…?

No go for BlogHer ’09

As we all know, plans often change and usually for a reason. This is the case for me and the BlogHer convention that is right around the corner. At first, we were going to take a family vacation to Chicago so I could attend BlogHer 2009. Then in December, our plans changed. I started to hear about the deals for Walt Disney World. We went into a travel agency on a whim and came out stunned. The price for a Disney vacation was just too good to pass up. By New Years Eve, we had finally opted to book the trip to Walt Disney World for May. At that instant, I knew that my chances of going to BlogHer were slim to none. I was accepting of that since I knew it meant going on a magical family vacation to Orlando.

My Ohana

Our May vacation to Disney World was fabulous. One of these days, I will finish blogging about the last few days of the trip, including JSL’s 2nd B-day at the Magic Kingdom. I often find myself thinking about those days and wishing I was back there. Life was good, we were carefree and the boys, my parents, JL and I were having the time of our lives together.

Looking down Main Street USA

Now I sit here sad and jealous. Everyone on Facebook, Twitter and the blogosphere are a buzz about BlogHer in Chicago. Friends from the interenet that I had hoped to meet are packing, checking off get togethers to meet at and swag that they are hoping to get. Meanwhile, I am going to be gearing up to have my in-laws visit for the first ever weekend stay.

Ready for the day of fun

I keep reminding myself that although I can not be in Chicago, I was already in Orlando. Still, the memories of Disney World in May seem like distant memories at times. The boys have already grown so much, my kindergarten kid is going to first grade and the summer is already half over. I am sure that during these next few days I will often sit reading my blog posts about Disney, looking at the thousands of photos that we have from the trip, and dreaming of our next magical vacation.

Please excuse the roller coaster hair

To all of my bloggy friends, have a safe and wonderful trip. Take lots of photos, Tweet often and know that I wish you a wonderful time in Chicago.

Say it Forward – Week 1

The ladies at 5 Minutes For Mom started a new weekly carnival.

award

So what is Say it Forward?  Here is the explanation from Janice on 5 Minutes for Mom:

Say It Forward – Carnival of Loyal Commenters is a new weekly carnival at 5 Minutes for Mom.com where bloggers feature their loyal commenters!

To read more about how to participate in Say It Forward and to get the button codes, click here.

And make sure you visit the links in the Mr. Linky here every Friday. These are the FUN blogging folk YOU want to be friends with. Go to THEIR sites. Read THEIR blogs. And of course, leave COMMENTS.

Oh – we can just see the friendships forming already… It is a beautiful thing!

To get things started, I decided to participate this Sunday (I found out about this too late on Friday). This week I will share a few blog posts that really caught my eye from some of my loyal commenters.

  • My bloggy friend Citystreams and I met when we participated in a swap group together. Over the last few months her life has been very stressful as she finished a big project. Last week, she handed in her teaching portfolio! Here is a blog that she wrote called Dear Blog, explaining her recent bloggy hiatus and troubles with a parent (I totally know her pain on that one).
  • Kim, from Beanish and Other Languages I am Learning, had a fun post about her daughter, Bean, dressing up with her little cousin during a visit. The blog post is called Cousins.
  •  Damselfly, from Growing a Life, is currently pregnant with her second little one. She often writes about her son Fly, but this time it was about the "joys" of pregnancy. Her post ,called So much for clean underwear, brought back so many memories of being sucker punched or headbutted in the bladder.
  • Killlashandra, from Southwest Photo Momentoes, has an amazing eye for photography. She often highlights the beautuful environment around her house. Another favorite is when she talks about her son, W.W., and his life on their ranch. This week she she highlighted her husband giving W.W. some Reining Lessons.

I hope you enjoy some of the blog posts from a few of my bloggy friends. I always look forward to seeing what new items they have to share when I head to my Google Reader each day.
