Pesky Baby Tooth Be Gone

Raise your hand if you are not a fan of teeth that are wiggly and about to come out. Imagine me hiding under a blanket. I’m not proud to admit it, but I have never been a fan of teeth once they are loose. It bothered me when I had them in my own mouth, when students would show them to me, and now as a parent.

Tooth Fairy Visit Time

NHL has had his fair share of bad luck with teeth loosening up and coming out. One day, while looking in his mouth, I noticed stubborn tooth #8 that had move into an outward facing position. To add to the “fun”, the new adult tooth was already coming up behind it. This tooth was stubborn and did not want to give up. The orthodontist finally made the decision that NHL’s 8th tooth had to be pulled by our pediatric dentist.

Yesterday, NHL went to see Dr. N to have that pesky tooth taken out. He was nervous, but he loves Dr. N and I do believe that, with her in charge and the amazing staff in their office, he was ready to go. Even with a few surprises tossed in, they told me he did fantastic. He was very lucky and did not require a shot of Novocain. With enough of the topical numbing medicine and just the right pulling, that tooth could not be a resident of NHL’s gums any longer. I am so proud of my big kid and how well he did. Of course, I have to admit I am thrilled we get a break in tooth adventure with him for a while. On the flip side – JSL is five and will probably have some of his coming out soon.

So my question to you this week:

How do you handle wiggly teeth? Cope with them, hate them, or are you fascinated with them? FYI – I know it isn’t Friday today. I am posting a day early because it is NHL’s birthday tomorrow. I always do a special birthday letter to the boys on their big day. If you have a minute and want to stop by on Friday to wish him a Happy Birthday, I know he would love it. I will link up later when that post goes live (here it is).

Olympics Reading and Learning

This year, the boys seem to be more intrigued by the Olympics. We watched part of the Opening Ceremony together the night it aired, and saw the rest of it with the DVR. The night before it started, we read Olympig! together. Then, NHL and JSL noticed books in a display at our library. The books were all about the Olympics, athletes, London, and more. There were books and movies for adults, plus a variety for kids.

NHL has been fascinated with the swimming and diving events. He has followed along as Michael Phelps made Olympic history with his medal count. It was not a surprise to me that he wanted to take out a book on this great athlete when he found it on the display.

Olympics Books for Children

As you can see, several of the books have come home with us to read. It goes to show that there are always books to help expand on subjects at home or expose children to a themes,  travel locations, or people – it just take a little research at times.

My question to you this week:

What sport or athlete from the London 2012 games would you love to learn/read more about and why? If you have not been following along, what is your favorite summer game or what do you wish was in the Olympics?

Celebrating a Special Birthday

Today is an extra special day in our house. This is the day that TechyDad was born in a galaxy far far away.

In a Galaxy Far Far Away - TechyDad

Alright, so it was not another galaxy – that part of NY can just feel like another planet at times. During the day, TechyDad be working. I know I wish we had been able to swing a trip to our favorite destination for his special day, but we were there earlier this year.

TechyDad

The boys and I may meet up with him for lunch (unless we’re too busy baking a cake). I do know that we will be heading out to dinner together. The other evening, TechyDad and I went out for an early birthday celebration and a fondue date night.

Fondue birthday celebration

His big present is on hold because he may require a new computer (he’s written about that recently). I told him that I was thinking about a few items, but didn’t do it without talking to him. Of course, the kids will be surprising him with a few goodies that they picked out at the store.

So my question to you this week:

What do you do to celebrate your spouse or significant others birthday?

Avocado Advice

Avocados are getting a lot of attention these days. They are no longer simply used to mash up and make guacamole. No, now they are made into salads, used in sandwiches, and lots of other creations. TechyDad and I fell in love with an avocado dish while at a conference in the spring.

For some reason, we had never purchased whole avocados to use at home. This all changed this weekend when we bought the following while out shopping:

Avocado Time

The avocados are ripening really quickly thanks to the warm weather. Wednesday night, we knew that we had to pit one of them and get moving. While TechyDad prepared things, I looked to see what we could make.

Avocado ready to go

Thank goodness we had veggie burgers and some tortillas. TechyDad made wraps with the veggie burgers, tomatoes, and avocados. They were delicious.

My questions to you this week:

Are you a fan of avocados? If you are, do you have any good recipes to share?

Crafting with Mod Podge

It has been years since I have done a major craft for ME that is not knitting. I love painting, making pottery, and doing other interesting items. Yesterday, I wrote about getting supplies to make slime with the boys. One of my Pinterest boards is filled with items that I would like to make for me, gifting, or beyond.

Crafts for ME on Pinterest

What you may notice with recent posts are a lot of items that involves decoupage or more specifically Mod Podge. In the photo above, you can see the Mod Podge photo-letter collage. I think that would be SO amazing to make for a teacher, grandparent, or other person with special memories on it. I have done similar items in the past, but not in a long, long, long time.

Since I really want to test these out, I went to the store to check out the section of Mod Podge items. This is what I saw:

Varieties of Mod Podge

In my quest to figure out what I want to try first, a friend told me about a website that is all about Mod Podge. Mod Podge Rocks is a blog written by Amy Anderson with lots of projects and more. Actually, if you look in the photo on the right at the book, that’s hers. There are so many ideas my head is spinning and I have to limit the amount of time that I spend looking. I have a feeling I may try Mod Podge earrings, sparkle sneakers, or the photo letter.

So my question to you this week:

Have you ever done a Mod Podge project before? Please share that below or some other craft that you enjoy doing when you have some time.

It's Me

P.S. If you are interested in checking out what is inside the Mod Podge Rocks!: Decoupage Your World book you can click on that link. It is to an Amazon Affiliate link where I will receive a small percentage from the sale. I know that I am thinking about purchasing the book soon.
