My question for this week is:

What song did you have your first dance to at your wedding? Was there a special reason for this song? If you are not married yet, what song would you pick and why?

Talk about your random questions, but I needed something not related to school, so please humor me!

JL and I had a tough time coming up with songs to dance to at our wedding. We knew that we would start off the reception with the traditional Horah, but after that it was tough. Decisions had to be made for our first dance and for the one with my father and JL’s mother.  We did not want to use things that were constantly used at the time.

A few months before our wedding my father bought a new CD from the BeeGee’s. He sat us down to listen to a song. The song was Wedding Day and had just been released. JL and I had never heard it before. Once we heard it we fell in love with the song. We knew we wanted this for our wedding day. I called our band to find out if they would be able to do it. It was new to them, but she said with some information they would likely be able to do it.

Our first dance - June 2001

Thanks to my father’s suggestion we had a beautiful song for our wedding day. Here is a video of the BeeGee’s performing this song not long after it was released.

 Have a wonderful weekend!

My question this week is inspired by Labor Day weekend and the unofficial end of summer.

With the summer coming to an end soon, what are you going to miss the most?

I am going to miss being able to take the boys outside and watch them explore and have fun without worrying about coats, hats, boots – you get the picture! This summer I have enjoyed watching my three guys play, laugh, smile and get dirty outside. Whether playing soccer, riding a scooter, playing with chalk, using a toy car or just being silly on the grass we have so many wonderful memories. I know we hope to be able to have many more before the crisp fall air turns to snow and ice.

Summer fun with my boys

My question this week is inspired by memories from my childhood.

Was there a toy that you always wanted as a child that you never received for one reason or another? If so what was it and did you purchase it for your children?

Growing up the kids in our neighborhood were always outside in the summer. We were a very close group of kids. We would play on swing sets, ride bikes, sit outside and sing, walk to the park, write newspapers for our block, and do anything we could to be together and enjoy the freedom of the summer.

Even with all of this I recall always wishing that I had a toy outside. For some strange reason I always wished that my parents had bought my brother and me the Little Tykes Cozy Coupe. I thought it would be so fun for imagine play. As an adult babysitting for children I secretly hoped that some day I would be able to get one for my children.

We never did buy a Cozy Coupe when NHL was younger. I think we always wanted activities that would keep him on his feet to work on his low muscle tone. Still he loved them when he had the chance to use them here and there.

Fast forward to Saturday. My parents came home from buying some bagels to take to the lake. There was a big garage sale set up across the street from their house. They went over and saw some toys. They are always looking for things to keep at their house for the grand kids. They bought a few items including . . . you guessed it a Cozy Coupe for a few dollars.

NHL was thrilled, but JSL was in his glory. He was able to play with it and be outside on his own. Here he is playing on it Thursday afternoon.

My question this week is inspired by my love of reading.

What are you currently reading? Any suggestions on new books are always welcome!

Last night I finally started to read Breaking Dawn. There, I admit it. . .  I am a Twilight fan! I

If you have no clue what I am talking about, hide your head in shame (j/k). Seriously, Stephenie Meyer’s books Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse, and now Breaking Dawn are Young Adult best sellers that are flying off the shelves like crazy to adults and teens. Last summer when I was busy nursing my then infant son I wanted something else to read after finish up the last Harry Potter book. I kept reading about the Twilight books and people going crazy about Bella, Edward and Jacob. I cringed when I heard that the premise was a vampire story. Still, I gave it a shot and was instantly sucked into the story line. Meyer does an amazing job telling her story and making you believe in her characters. So thanks to Laura, I now have her copy of Breaking Dawn and am anxiously reading every second I can. After that I hope to listen to my first adult book on CD. I am waiting to "read" The Host by Meyer so I can multitask. I tried reading this and just could not stay with it thanks to the set up. I have heard once into the book it goes quickly.

In addition to this, NHL and I are in the middle of book #6 in the Magic Tree House books (Afternoon on the Amazon). If you have never read this series, I highly recommend them. Mary Pope Osborne does an amazing job mixing history, science, geography and other goodies into these beginner chapter book. They are also great to keep kids and adults interested in what happens to Jack and Annie. FYI – there are already 39 of these magical books.

Happy reading all!

My question this week is inspired by the reality that summer is ending too soon. I am in great denial that snow and ice will follow as well.

Summer is unofficially ending for many of us with the back to school season. What are some things that you hope to do before summer is truly over?

We hope to be able to take NHL to an amusement park not far from here. As part of his birthday present from us we plan on taking him there for a special day with Mommy and Daddy. My parents have said they will watch the little guy since 15 month olds do not do well in extreme heat at parks like this. In addition to this we want to take the boys swimming some more since they both really enjoy it. Luckily we will be able to go to the beach next weekend for sand play, swimming and boating to celebrate my father’s big birthday. I also plan on taking NHL to visit the playground at his new school so he can get acquainted with things before starting kindergarten. Mommy is not ready for this at all!
