My question for this week is inspired by October being National Breast Cancer Awareness Month:

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Has anyone in your life been diagnosed with breast cancer? If so please feel free to share.

Right before NHL was born my father’s sister received some horrible news. My family actually tried to hide it from me at first because I was SO very pregnant. I knew something was going on and told them I wanted to know. They finally shared with me that my Aunt S had been diagnosed with breast cancer. I remember those days, sitting at my grandmothers house and aunts just being there with everyone.

For years Aunt S had been going for tests and watching herself because of a family history of breast cancer. Suddenly she was faced with the news that she had always feared. NHL was born and soon after she had her first of many surgeries. Those months were very hard to witness as Aunt S longed to hold her new nephew but could not risk it.

Aunt S has been a breast cancer survivor for five years now. We are so lucky that she was on top of things and caught it early. Growing up I spent a lot of time with Aunt S and Uncle M before they had children. I would play dress up, watch videos (Barry Manilow concerts – they all corrupted me), and bake with her. Both of my boys are also very close with Aunt S. NHL spent the day with Aunt S and my grandmother the day JSL was born. Thankfully when JSL was born Aunt S was able to snuggle him lots. Here are a few photos of my Aunt S, a true hero in my life and most importantly a brave breast cancer warrior.

My question for this week is inspired by the great VP debate:

Did you watch the VP debate last night? Did it change your view or feelings about anything? No need to go into specifics if you do not want to.

My husband and I watched the debate. We were quite interested in seeing how things would shake out with Sarah Palin and Joe Biden. My feelings about qualifications going in changed a little toward one candidate, but made no difference in the way I will vote on November 4th.

Of course while we were watching we also played Palin Bingo. We each used three cards at once to make it more interesting. These are my cards from the end of the debate:

Palin Bingo night

And at 9:47 EST I called out PALIN. . . . not long after I complained about having a miserable group of cards.

P-A-L-I-N - I won!

Thanks to TechyDad for making a fun game to play and share with everyone. Oh and we plan on making something generic for the next Presidential debate. So stay tuned!

My question for this week is:

Now that the new television season has officially started, what shows are you most excited about seeing and why?

I am a huge Grey’s Anatomy fan. Last night I was glued to my television for two hours watching the season premier. All I can say is —> WOW! It did not leave me disappointed and I can not wait for the next episode in two weeks.

In addition to Grey’s Anatomy I can not wait to see Desperate Housewives. The teaser at the end of last season was quite strange and left viewers wondering what they were up to.

My husband is a huge Heroes fan and sat watching that Monday night. I am not a fan of that show since it is a little too graphic for me (in a non-medical sort of way). I opted to watch Dancing With the Stars during that time.

My questions for this week is:

How much sleep do you get on the average night?

Sleep, what is that? Seriously, I do not think I have slept a really decent night since I conceived NHL almost six years ago. Whether it was hormone induced lack of sleep, pregnancy bladder, nursing babies, teething toddlers, or a preschooler with nightmares,  nights have been sketchy to say the least. On a good night I may get 4-6 hours of combined sleep. My body and mind have learned to cope with this, but it can be rough at times.

I joke with JL that my theme song should be the following:

How I love this song! Although I may not get a great night of sleep at least the boys seem to be able to catch some Z’s most evenings, even when on the road.

A good night sleep

Sweet dreams to all!

My questions for this week are:

Do you like to pack when you go away? Do you make lists when you do so? Has your style of packing changed since you had kids (if you have any?

See the theme going here?

Seriously, I sit here getting this ready for Friday (it is Thursday now) and have a list of things to do. This weekend we are traveling to my niece’s 1st birthday party. There is a lot to do. The laundry is almost finished, I am making a list of items to pack for everyone, and this evening when the boys are in bed I will get the clothing into a suitcase.

Packing used to be so easy for me. I could just do it on the fly when it was only adults I had to worry about. Now things are more complicated. How many days of clothing do we need? How many spares for the boys should I take? Do I have enough to keep them busy on the road? This is why I make a list and check the items off as we load them into the car/bags. It just may be the teacher in me making lists, but it helps me organize what needs to be done and ready to go.

In honor of the trip a little song that we love to sing when driving.

Have a wonderful weekend!
