Disney Princess Power

My house is filled with everything Disney, but we lack Princess items. As the mother of two little boys, I am the queen of our castle. Of course, the kids know all of the Disney Princesses. Disney Princess Power

We actually have a lunch planned for this trip at Akershus Royal Banquet Hall in Epcot. I figured it would be nice to do while they are young enough to think that princess power is cool. So, we will be able to dine, visit, and take photos with Belle, Jasmine, Aurora, and other members of Disney Royalty. I think it will be fun because it is something new to me. It will be nice to have a special meal with some Disney girls – like my bibliophile, French speaking, hairy beast loving Belle.

So my question to you this week:

Who is your favorite Disney Princess and why? If you are not a fan of them, what other character do you like and why?

The Balancing Act of Being a Mom

Thursday morning, I was sitting at my computer trying to figure out a game plan to get work done. Yes, I said work. You see, I am a blogger, freelance writer, and stay at home mother. My responsibilities never seem to end. I love what I do, but there are days that things do seem a bit overwhelming.

Resourceful MommyAs I was making a list of items to tackle over the next few weeks, something happened. I saw a Tweet from Amy (@ResourcefulMom) that caught my eye. She wrote about something that really hit me to my core. The title of her post is: Moms, When Do You Get a Break?

Head on over to read the points that Amy makes, along with some very interesting comments. It really made me think. Could I afford to take a real break? I’m not sure about that. Yes, I make time every so often to listen to a book while knitting. Still, I am always thinking about what I should be doing and making lists in my mind.

A Tricky Balancing Act

It really is a tricky balancing act as a mother, or father for that matter. We all have to multi-task, put others ahead of us, learn to say no, be an advocate for our children . . . and the list goes on. Of course, I wish people would understand that many stay-at-home parents also work in our homes. We sneak in any possible moment to write, network, call a contact, or go on Skype for a virtual meeting. Times have changed and so have the roles of parents.

So my question to you this week:

If you were able to have a break, what would you do for you during that time?

Spring 2011 Will Come One Day

Wednesday, while Punxsutawney Phil was getting pulled out for his Groundhog Day show, we were digging out from an icy and snowy mess. I have to admit that I think Phil may have “said” he didn’t see his shadow just to avoid being on the dinner table around the country. Seriously, this winter has been crazy for so many people across the United States and beyond.

Here are some recent shots from the storm:

No more snow!

As you can see, we are running out of places to put the snow. I was outside for 2 hours shoveling. Thank goodness a neighbor felt bad and used his monster snow blower to clear off the end of our driveway where we had been severely plowed in. Before dinner, TechyDad raked the roof for quite some time.

So this mess has me thinking about Spring. My question for this week:

What are you most excited about for Spring 2011?

The Fine Art of Selecting New Glasses

Early in December, we realized that we still had a lot of Flex Spending money left for 2010. We had put in extra hoping that it would be there at the end of the year for TechyDad and me to get new glasses.

Our wish came true, or was it a nightmare? Last time I had an eye exam, I opted to keep my glasses because I could not find anything else that I liked. Well, that isn’t entirely true. There were plenty of options out there, but I could not get them. I am allergic to one of the items in most metal frames. It makes my skin turn green and I have a bad reaction. Not good at all. Thanks to this, if I get metal frames, I have to get titanium glasses. Titanium frames are a lot more expensive. As I started to shop, I soon realized that most places did not stock titanium options because of this cost issue.

On my birthday, I happened to be in JC Penney with my mother and JSL. I stopped and looked at the frames in their optical department. No titanium, but the woman was able to point me to some smaller plastic frames. I started wearing glasses in ninth grade and had never bought plastic before. I was a little hesitant, but found a pair that I really liked. Before I knew it, I had selected a pair of glasses and new prescription sunglasses! Of course, I had to take a photo that day and explained that it was for blogging purposes.

Time for new glasses

A week or so later, TechyDad went for an eye exam and picked out some new glasses to use up the rest of our 2010 money. We are both getting used to them and I am having fun with my sassy new shades.

So my question to you this week:

Do you wear contacts or glasses? Do you like to pick out new glasses or do you find it daunting?

My Disney Driven Life in EDUMICKATION

If you have been reading my blog for a while, you know that I am a BIG Disney fan. I have blogged about the Mickey and Minnie at our wedding, our Disney World honeymoon, and trips to Disney World with the boys. There have also been flashback posts about trips that I took to Disney while a child.

Castle

Thanks to Social Media, I have met a lot of other people that are huge fans of the House of Mouse. While at the Disney Social Media Moms Celebration last February, I met several of the people that I had been chatting with about Disney. Of course, I also missed seeing many others that I wish I had seen. This year I am hoping to fix that since several will be back again.

One of the people that I can not wait to meet is JL Knopp. JL is also known as Neurotic Disney Mom 1 (NDM1) and started The Disney Driven Life – Community Blog for Neurotic Disney People. JL and I have chatted on Twitter many times over the last year or so. The other day I received a cryptic message from JL asking me to call her. We missed each other, so I had to wait 24 hours to see what was going on.

JL wanted to see if I would be interested in writing on The Disney Driven Life. More specifically, she wants me to write about EDUMICKATION. I was so honored and said yes. Thanks to this, I have been brainstorming on topics to write about within this rather large Disney umbrella. So NDM183 (that’s me) will be starting posts on The Disney Driven life all about Edumickation. I hope you will stop by to see my posts, and look at the other amazing resources there.

So my question to you this week:

Have you ever used something related to Disney in a teachable moment? If you have please share and if not how do you think Disney would have helped you and/or your child?
