The Online Mom Connection

GVP Magazine The world of blogging has opened up the world to me. I have met amazing people online, at conferences, and even locally. The reality is that the internet connects people that may have never met under normal circumstances.

Case in point, I recently had the opportunity to meet the Publisher of Genesee Valley Parent Magazine based out of Rochester, NY.

Barbara Melynk started her magazine 16 years ago and it is still going strong. The way we met is a long story. The in-person meet up was thanks to a blogger outreach connecting people from Western NY to the Capital District area. Although our meeting was short, Barbara was a wealth of information and a very classy woman. She has definitely inspired us. Barbara’s magazine also had an article called Her Words: Moms of Rochester Share Their Words of Wisdom Across The Digital Wires. The article shows how three bloggers in that area are digitally connected via their blogs. A great read for when you have time.

Here is a photo of almost everyone in the group that was at the informative meeting with Barbara.

Networking

Thank you ladies for a wonderful mid-afternoon filled with networking and lots of laughs.

So my question to you this week:

Who is someone that you have met online that you would love to meet in real life and why?

Supplies For a Neverland Pirate Party

When you ask your child what they would like to decorate their birthday party with, you always hope for something easy. JSL’s birthday is this weekend. He decided that he wanted his 4th birthday to be with this theme:

Disney Junior Pirate Party

The problem is that they have not marketed anything for Jake and the Neverland Pirates – yet. So, we had to improvise. We are doing a small family party with some pirate supplies for our little matey. We bought doubloons, pirate flags, gold sprinkles, and cupcake making items.

Chocolate Pirate Cupcakes

We still need to figure out the menu for the party and a few other items for the kids to do. So my question to you this week:

What is your favorite party theme that you have ever been to and why? It could have been your own birthday party, your child’s, or some other fun event.

Artist Appreciation

Growing up, I loved art class. I may not have been the best at drawing, but it was fun and helped me to relax. In elementary school, I would stress over my art work looking like my classmates. Middle school was a blur for a lot of reasons. High school changed things. My freshman Studio Art teacher was an amazing woman. She inspired me to be myself in my art. She told me not to worry about what others thought and enjoy.

Thanks to Ms. W, I continued on with art every year in high school. I took several classes that were on painting and, in my last year of high school, art, pottery, and sculpture filled the end of my day. Art classes were something that was a perk for me. I was lucky to go to a school that had a variety of options in high school. Then, in college, while working on my teaching degree, I took an Art & Learning course. This course was a lot of work, but oh so rewarding.

I remember studying different artists over the years during classes. My bedroom was decorated with Monet’s Water Lilies and I adored it. Art appreciation continues to be part of my life. JSL’s nursery school class recently completed a unit on artists. They studied Seurat (one of my favorites thanks to his dots) and here is JSL’s version of Mondrian:

So my question to you this week is inspired by my love of art:

Who is your favorite artist and why?

A Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah Kind of Day

Imagine sitting on a beautiful beach front eating dinner with your family and good friends. Let’s say it may be at the Grand Floridian Resort at Walt Disney World during the Good Times Get Together during the start of a magical conference weekend. Suddenly, these gentlemen appear at your table:

IMGP3149

They want to know what song you would like them to play at your table! Yes, this really happened back in March at the Disney Social Media Moms Celebration. Lucky for us, Resourceful Mommy’s daughter selected an amazing song and I captured it on video. Sit back and enjoy:

So my question for you this week:

If you had been asked what Disney song for the band to play, what would it have been and why?

TheAngelForever

Disclosure: Although we paid for our own trip to Disney World, we were given an incredible deal thanks to Disney. The sweet conference fee included 3 nights at the Grand Floridian, several meals for the entire family,  7 day park hoppers for everyone, conference/meals for me and some other items to take home. Also note that Disney never asked us to blog about this event. As a long time Disney fan, it is my pleasure to share my experiences from the event.

Daffodil Days

Right before Passover started on Monday, JSL and I went to pick up a few things at the library. JSL stopped to check out what will soon be their butterfly garden. Last year, he loved watching the butterflies fluttering around in the beautiful and colorful area.

Some gorgeous yellow flowers caught my eye and made me stop. I had to take photos:

Dreaming of Daffodils

Yes, these gorgeous daffodils made me smile. I am not sure why, but daffodils have become a recent favorite of mine. We planted some a few years ago. They were amazing – until the neighborhood bunny family yanked them out of the group by the bulbs. Goodbye daffodils. I keep saying that I need to buy some daffodil and tulip bulbs to plant, but I never do. Guess I need to get on that one of these years.

So my question to you this week is inspired by these daffodils:

What has been your favorite floral find this spring and why?
