When we were married we had a lot of items on our registry. Thanks to keeping a kosher kitchen, we needed two of most cooking items (meat and dairy). With this in mind, we did not register for luggage. JL had a few small pieces and we were given a large one from my grandmother to use for our honeymoon. When we went to Las Vegas Aunt S and Uncle M gave us another piece to use for taking dress clothing.
It has been over six years since our last big trip. When we travel to Disney World we will have to pack for four people for an entire week. Clearly, the few small bags we own will not cut it. So we need to research luggage brands, acceptable sizes for airlines and all of the rest that goes along with serious suitcase studies.
Back in December, on my birthday, I received an e-mail that I had won a Lands’ End rolling duffel bag from Did You See That? I was so excited because it was something we needed very badly. Last night, I packed it for the first time. There is so much room in it thanks to well defined compartments. I was able to put winter clothing for an entire weekend for the two boys and myself. Here are photos of it all packed and ready to go.
Now I wonder if we should take this with us and maybe get more of the larger ones for Disney and beyond. So my question this week:
Do you have any suggestions on what type of luggage to look for? What have you had success with that is durable and good for family travel?

those ones that are hard i think they are calld hec or hec or something like that!
All of the traveling that we do these days is by car so not into what brand works best for airplanes! That being said I will pack one small suitcase for two nights & continue on like that if I need to. Plus we have a couple of bigger ones for the rest of the trip & I usually have something for pool toys & swim suits.
When are you guys going to Disney?
I use to work in retail and we sold a lot of American Tourister Luggage and many times people who bought it were back for more because they loved it. If I remember right it also has a 10 year warrenty on it.

The only thing I have learned is that it takes a huge beating so it doesn’t pay to get something too expensive. Durable yes, expensive no.
I have no idea, but I hope you have a great time! We stuff our belongings in book bags & backpacks! Then again we don’t go anywhere too far or by plane!

I’ve never had anything fancy – just your standard suitcase or duffel bag! A couple of years ago, we purchased a new set of suitcases, but they aren’t anything really special. The large ones are too big, for sure, especially with the new regulations and weight limits.
We’ve been using a carry-on we’ve bought from Wal-Mart for years and years (since I worked for the airline all we would bring is carry-ons) and it’s held up really well. I can’t remember what brand it is…maybe it is American Tourister, I’m not sure.
I wish I had some good advice! Our suitcases are oooold.
I have no good advise. I used to travel before children and I traveled overseas and used duffle bags, since I had to lug it everywhere.

i don’t have any good answers to your questions. i’ve never had enough money or knowledge to buy the good stuff. i think anything on wheels is a good idea. and the duffel bags look good and would seem to be durable.
I cannot answer because I have an old suitcase that I have used for years.

I’m not going to be much help here. I CAN say that we’ve had the same Eddie Bauer suit case for years and it’s still kickin’. It’s not half as cool as your rolling duffle, though. :)
I’m not sure. We always take huge nike duffle bags that have held up very well. I would say to remember to put something unique on each bag for ease of idetification at airports!
Sorry I don’t have a good answer for your question. We hardly travel but I have a handy carry-on bag that I always bring during short trips.
