Blogging is often something that I consider to be therapeutic. When TechyDad and I had to cancel our trip to Walt Disney World a few weeks ago because of Hurricane Irene, writing helped me to deal with my feelings. On the flip side, I also wrote about the need for couples time when we started to plan our trip. It was calling me out on the fact that even though I am a parent, spending time with my husband alone is not something I should feel guilty about.
Although I write on my blog about certain topics, there are definitely others that I would LOVE to write about, but I hold back. Being an adult and doing the responsible thing can stink at times, especially when you want to vent, yell, scream, and or/or even gloat.
Last year, the H-E Double Hockey Sticks that was the school we pulled our son out of because he was assaulted (and then some) was one of those items. I wrote a vague post here and there, but I did not go into details. You see, certain things are our business and I did not want something on my blog being tossed back in my face (people at school read my blog). Another item that stopped me is I had not blogged leading up to the incident. It probably seemed more drastic if you didn’t have all of the points to connect in the story.
School related items are not the only things that I avoid. I never blog anything negative about family members (duh), keep to positive experiences because who wants to dwell on the negatives, I never blogged about my classroom when I was teaching, and try not to debate politics and/or religion. There is enough drama in the world and I just do not need that in my life.
So my question to you this week:
What topics and or items do you avoid on your blog and why?
The beautiful thing about blogging is that there is no right or wrong way to do it. So long as you stay true to yourself, you can continue to morph and spread your wings over time.

Most adult topics. Just because our family subscribes and reads.

I try to keep it clean. No sex talk, vulgarities, nothing too personal or too offensive. Yes, call me chicken.

No adult topics for my blog either. I really don’t talk about too much that is personal, not on this blog. I do have a blog that is password protected, for family and friends, where I blog about the kids and include lots of pictures. It’s more of a journal to keep far-away family updated on what’s going on in our family.

I keep off blogging on too personal details about family relationships etc. I do have a private blog for that and other blogs just to record the kids milestones etc.

I avoid writing about politics. I actually did blog about the 2008 presidential election and ended up having some issues with people who just wanted to pick fights with me on my blog – and on other people’s blogs. It was ugly.
I really try to keep my blog light and fun – but as it is ‘the view from my fishbowl’ and is about how I view things, sometimes it can get a bit heavy – like when I was blogging about being bullied at my old job and why I quit that job. But for the most part, I only avoid politics and religion.

Politics, try to keep it a “clean blog”, religion, however, have mentioned mine and too many details of my personal life.

I try to stay positive when I can. I’m trying to stay away from anything that could upset my family, (or my kids in the future). You never know who’s reading or what could come back to haunt you.

I stay away from politics and religion because so many people tend to turn those subjects into major controversy (and headaches). :) I also don’t go into detail about where we live or specifics about Princess Nagger’s school or friends, because there are just too many psycho’s out in the world – and on cyberspace. ;)

I try to avoid talking about sex, education, politics, and religion both online and in person – some with greater success than others! It’s just too draining to go into any of these topics. And, in the past year, I’ve had to stop blogging about my kids, as they insist on censoring what I say. It’s easier to avoid talking about them at altogether.

Too many to talk about I feel you though I keep my blog more neutral and avoid controversial topics but sometimes things I am passionate about I want to talk about.
I try to avoid blogging about politics. I’m a conservative Republican and have strong feelings about the direction our country is going. But, I know others have different opinions so it’s just not a debate I want to get into on my blog.

I just started blogging about coming to grips with my daughter’s death. Before it was something I didn’t go into depth about.
I stay away from politics, religion and negativity. I avoid controversy. but this is me in real life too. Life is so short. We need to focus on the positive AND once we put something out there online it’s there forever. Forever. Even if we delete it. That can always come back and bite us in the behind. ;D

Early in my blogging career…I wrote a post that got picked up by a certain news site which had also attracted a certain blogger from a huge lobby. Let’s just say I learned my lesson. I still think I was right but, I don’t need a bunch of crazies leaving messages on my site.
Have a great Friday!

Yes. my blog was supposed to be me pouring out my stuff so that I could have some sort of catharsis , but people started to read it and now I just don’t speak. It’s sad.
But my marriage for example I’d want to just talk about or my childhood (reason I first started blogging in the first place) Now it just seems so public.
