Weather seems to be in the news a lot lately. Throughout the United States, people have been dealing with severe weather of all kinds. My heart goes out to the people in the flooded areas fighting to save their homes and to those picking up the pieces after the deadly tornadoes.
As I pulled into the driveway Wednesday afternoon, the sky changed from sunny and bright to ominous. It was in the mid 90’s, but the wind started to gust. I will admit that I was unaware that a storm warning was in our area. We packed the kids into the house and got them out of their swimsuits and decided to relax in the cooler house. As I was sitting and doing some work, I heard thunder, saw lightning flickering outside, and then chunks of ice were slamming against the house. Yes, chucks of ice.
TechyDad was able to get the one above when he ducked outside our front door to snag it to show the boys. A little while later, the sun came out and I went outside to look around for damage. Even though it was still close to 90 degrees, there were still good sized chunks of hail in the grass.
I went to check on our vegetables that we outside. Luckily, everything looked pretty good. We were a bit nervous since hail destroyed cucumbers and tomatoes a few years back.
When I went back around the front, I decided to take a photo of one chunk of ice and then next to my foot to show the difference.
Yes, we get hail from time to time in the Capital District area, but not like this and several times in a few days. Thank goodness everyone was safe and sound. Now we just hope things settle down across the country for the rest of the summer ahead.
My question to you this week:
Do you like summer storms? Would love to know why you do or do not. Please share any unusual weather you have had near you.

I LOVE summer storms. I live in the middle of the desert and it’s pretty rare that we get summer storms, or any other storms aside from windstorms, but when we do, I just find it kind of exciting.
Have a good weekend!
I live in Santa Barbara…we don’t really get summer storms beyond rain. I saw an amazing lightning storm in Arizona once as a kid and I loved it!!

I am not a big fan. We live in a valley and get some killer wind and rain storms. I hate being without electricity and the thought of trees falling on homes, cars, roads, etc.

Next time it hails I have to go pick one up just because. It’s so rare . I’ve only experienced it twice.
I like summer rains because it cools down the temperature. I love cool.

Cool summer snow and I love it! I bet it cool down the hot bursting rays of sun! Hope everyone are safe and sound! :)
We had hail a week ago. In fact we are having an insurance adjustor out this weekend due to hail damage to our siding :( So I am not overly fond of summer storms. Glad to hear your veggies weren’t damaged.

I do love summer storms – as long as they are not severe. Tornado watches/warnings are pretty common in our area and that scares me a lot.

That’s some serious hail!!
We love summer storms – mostly because we don’t get that kind of hail… :) Hubby and I like to sit on the front porch and watch the storms roll in – the light show is usually phenomenal. We do scurry inside when it gets too close, though – or especially if we have the rare for this are tornado warnings. :)

What crazy weather. At least it’s not snow….
Weather is okay as long as I don’t need to be out side and nothing gets knocked out.
Have a great weekend!

I like summer storms because they cool things off for a while and make everything look greener. I also love the sound of the rain.

When it’s a true summer storm, I don’t mind it and rather enjoy it for the weather cool-down. But when it’s a hurricane-related storm, then no, not so much!

Living in the Pacific NW, we just don’t see storms like that. I can remember being at my Grandma’s house in Eastern Washington where the clouds came in and it poured…flooding in minutes, then the sun came back out and the water receded. It was amazing to me.

I love summer storms!
i do not like them! mainly because the power goes out and it is hot as anything…
add to that … where i used to work (bar) the owner would make us stay open… with no power = no lights = no a/c to try and make a couple extra bucks.. even if it was night time… and SO NOT SAFE
