Thursday morning, I was sitting at my computer trying to figure out a game plan to get work done. Yes, I said work. You see, I am a blogger, freelance writer, and stay at home mother. My responsibilities never seem to end. I love what I do, but there are days that things do seem a bit overwhelming.
As I was making a list of items to tackle over the next few weeks, something happened. I saw a Tweet from Amy (@ResourcefulMom) that caught my eye. She wrote about something that really hit me to my core. The title of her post is: Moms, When Do You Get a Break?
Head on over to read the points that Amy makes, along with some very interesting comments. It really made me think. Could I afford to take a real break? I’m not sure about that. Yes, I make time every so often to listen to a book while knitting. Still, I am always thinking about what I should be doing and making lists in my mind.
It really is a tricky balancing act as a mother, or father for that matter. We all have to multi-task, put others ahead of us, learn to say no, be an advocate for our children . . . and the list goes on. Of course, I wish people would understand that many stay-at-home parents also work in our homes. We sneak in any possible moment to write, network, call a contact, or go on Skype for a virtual meeting. Times have changed and so have the roles of parents.
So my question to you this week:
If you were able to have a break, what would you do for you during that time?

Aloha #138
I honestly don’t remember getting a lot of me time when the kids were growing up. We did try to go on weekly date nights which got us both out of the house. I enjoyed working in the garden and actually considered hanging laundry on the clothes line alone time. Now…with the kids grown and on their own…time for me is going to bed early and of course…spending all the time I can with NY. ;D

YOu know things have really slow down now that my child is a teen. I seem to have more time during the week. Now as for the weekends….Running the teen hear and there and family stuff, can keep me busy. I would love to just sit and read a book, not have to make dinners or clean house, do laundry or answer the phone.

If I had an afternoon to myself, and it was summer, I would go to the beach alone and enjoy the sounds of the water and hot sun and read a book. Would be heaven right about now.
Probably clean out some drawers or even paint my room. I really want to get these things done.
Have a great day!

Honestly, there are times just having a bath and a quiet night helps. But also, if I could chose something super special – I’d pick a shopping spree started off with a spa treatment, massage and some yummy food

I would take a bubble bath and read a good book! I have 4 kids, but fortunately they are all school age. I have a good bit of time when the house is quiet. However blogging helps my family financially so I constantly have something to do for one of the three blogs.

It would depend on how long the break was but I know I sure would love to just have a day to lay around in my pjs and slippers and watch a couple of movies :)

I would ask that question all the time. Then my kids went to school and I didn’t know what to do with myself. I started community service projects, then felt like I wasn’t accomplishing my “homemaking” duties properly (dishes in the sink). The juggling act is very hard to do.

Great question! When my 3 boys were young, I ran a home day care for 10 years. 6am – 6pm Mon-Fri. I loved being there for my boys, esp. my youngest with Asperger’s. However looking back now, I don’t know where I got all that energy. :-) I do know that I didn’t take enought time for myself, hardly ever. My whole world revolved about school groups, activites and Church groups.. which is what got me though & still does today!! A ‘MOM’s group at church was my best support for many, many years. :-)
