Date nights are not something that TechyDad and I frequently get. Life just gets really busy and we never seem to coordinate a time to go out. Sure, we watch movies at home when the kids are asleep. Sometimes, we even break out a board game like we used to before having kids. Still, it is nice to go out to a child free dinner at a location more for adults.
On Saturday night, my parents offered to watch the boys so we could go out to dinner. We had a Restaurants.com certificate to use at a local restaurant called Mangia. It was the night before Halloween and pretty quiet when we got there. We decided to share an appetizer (we hardly ever do this) and decided on our meals. Here is what we ordered:
It was a very nice meal and delicious (even reheated the next day for leftovers). We tried not to talk about the kids too much and focused on other items. We planned sitting down and testing out some new games that we had to review and making time to watch a movie that I took out from the library. It was a great meal and very relaxing. With any luck, we will be able to get out again before my birthday in December.
So my question for you today:
If you have kids, do you make time for a date night with your spouse? For everyone, what would your ideal date night be?

We just became empty nesters, so every night now is date night lol.
The kids have a sleepover every Friday night, so it’s always date night. Sometimes we go out, sometimes we hibernate and cuddle on the couch. Not sure yet what tonight will be. :)

The only thing we seem to do these days is shop at Sam’s Club every Monday morning. We’ve been married for 25 years so it must be working.

We prefer active day outings to date nights. Hiking, skiing, rock climbing, whatever. Even when the kids join us, they tend to separate from the parental units, giving us time for unfettered chatting.

I so want a date night. My parents rarely volunteer to watch the kids there being 45 miles between us, so occasionally we sucker our teenage daughter into watching the kids. ;) They are a great thing though.
When the kids were young my husband and I would try to go out every weekend for dinner and /or a film. Then he went out and didn’t come back…hehe.
NY and I go out whenever we can however it’s not always at night. It’s different for us of course because the kids are grown however…we consider it a date night even at home when the grands aren’t here because they usually are. LOL
Wish we lived closer Beth, you could drop your boys off to hang with my grands!

I think it’s so important for couples to have date nights. That being said . . . I can’t remember the last time DH and I went on one. We work opposite schedules and are apart more than we are together. Seriously, I don’t know how we managed to have 3 kids! LOL!

Christina and I live pretty much 7 minutes away from one another- pretty much- she’s at the top of the big hill, I’m at the bottom! Anyway, we swap Saturdays watching one another’s kids, so we each get two date nights a month. We’re kind of spoiled rotten, I guess. But that’s an AWESOME thing to take advantage of when you have local friends with kids who would also benefit from date nighting!
