Texting time has come

On Sunday, TechyDad and I took made some major decisions of the technological kind. We finally decided to to ditch our landline (which was with our cable company) in order to save a pretty penny each month. They were able to port our number over and we have an extra cell phone in our house to use for that purpose. In addition to this, we finally upgraded our cell phone plans to include unlimited texting and photo messages. Prior to this, I had probably sent out only a dozen or two text messages. Part of this was the cost, the other the horrible phones that made texting a pain.

We shopped around over the weekend at AT&T and Verizon Wireless. In the end, we stayed with Verizon because for the same price each month, we could keep our home phone number. They also had no hidden fees, no activation costs and the rebates for two of the phones did not require a $20 data plan for the first month (talk about strange catches w/AT&T).

The person that helped us at Verizon Wireless also told us to go online to purchase three of our phones for FREE! So I present you with my new baby. She is really pretty, shiny, new and allows me to text like crazy. . . wow this is addictive (thank you Twitter text). Sorry about the bad glare in the photos.

So my questions for you are inspired by my new fun toy cell phone:

Do you have a cell phone plan that gives you unlimited texting ability? Do you still have a landline phone at home?

    I LOVE TEXTING!
Thank goodness for my unlimited plan!
Yes, I have a land line as well, although it doesn’t get used much…

  • I have a cell phone, but not unlimited texting. I just don’t have time to text – it is so much quicker to pick up the phone and call the person IMO.

But we did get rid of our landline. It was such a waste of money for us :)

Well, sort of. J and I both have Blackberries and so does my SIL and they’re really the only ones I text. BB texting to another BB is free so we use that a lot. We do not have unlimited texting outside of that though. We also still have a landline and have no plans to get rid of it.

no land line and I would die if I didn’t hvve unlmited my sis and me go crazy texting

  • We still have a land line that get minimal use. I hardly ever text. I have an LG phone with not many exciting features. It has really big buttons and I’ve joked that it’s my “jitterbug” phone. When we renewed/upgraded our plan with Verizon last hubs HAD to have a Blackberry…why? No clue since he’s in the Navy and obviously doesn’t need it for work and only ever calls his parents and me. Still , he really NEEDED it. So I went with the cheapest option to keep our already outrageous bill down. Now I have a Jitterbug old folk’s phone, lol. I don’t really care though. I hate trying to text on those tiny buttons and can’t talk on the phone with three screaming kids around so I only really have it for emergencies.

  • Our landline is our main phone. Our cell phones are just for emergency when out driving.

We took texting and internet off the phone because it was too expensive and we already had a computer with internet at home.

  • Candi says:

I had a plan with At&t that was unlimited nights/weekends and 500 any time minutes. I wasn’t using it often and had some major roll over minutes. When my contract was up, I decided to just convert to a Go phone plan. I just don’t use my cell phone often at all. Most months I put less than $20 on my phone. My husband did have a cell phone through his last job, but his new one did not give him a phone. He picked up a Go phone, too. Actually, I think we are spending less than $20 a month for both of our cell phones. We don’t text at all.

We don’t have a land line phone. We have Vonage and have for a few years. Before that, we had a different VOIP provider, so it has been at least 5 years since we’ve had a land line phone.

  • We have a landline at home and hubby and I each have our cellphones. We availed of post paid plans, however, it doesn’t feature unlimited texting. We each have monthly free text messages that we can consume or not. Anything in excess, we have to pay.

  • Jusitne says:

Yep we have Cricket Wireless its unlimited minutes, long distance, and texting for a basic plan. No contracts but you pay full price for a phone and they aren’t cheap(for a good one). Its cheaper then a prepaid phone and better then a plan because of no contracts and unlimited for a good price. If you get the $45/mo plan you get unlimited minutes, texting, picture texting, long distance, and internet.

We haven’t had a land line since 2007, theirs only Verizon unless we do voip, and I’m a little irritated with Verizon.
