Although many parts of the country are already on summer vacation, NHL has school until the end of next week. Monday and Tuesday are full days, then two half days after that. It is still hard for me to believe that my big boy is going to "graduate" from kindergarten on Monday. I can not believe that I will be the Mommy of a first grader in the fall. It seems like it was only yesterday when we took photos of NHL on his first day and now the year is almost over (photo below).
Recently, I have been trying to figure out activities to do with the boys this summer. We just received information about a summer camp in August that would be fabulous for NHL. They have several different programs that we can pick from for each of the week long sessions. Some have to do with Dinosaurs, Insects and even math fun. We are trying to figure out how to swing at least one session for him.
The boys and I will also participate in the reading program with the local library. NHL did this last year and really enjoyed it. Other than that, the two little guys and I will be entertaining each other for the long haul. NHL will be 6 this summer and JSL was just 2. They love to play together, but the age difference does hinder some things since JSL still needs his naps.
So my question for you this week:
What are some ideas of things to do with my boys this summer? Any thoughts and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

My kids really enjoy playing with each other, too, so that makes things easier than if you had an only child. My son (also a recent kindergarten graduate!) is really into obstacle courses this summer. He’ll set up a pile of pillows, couch cusions, towers of blocks, etc. on the living room floor, and then have me and his little sister go through them in a certain way. Once we stop getting so much rain, I plan to make him some obstacle courses outside. :)

I am trying to think back. We spent a lot of time outdoors, at parks, or swimming.

Didn’t the school year go by so fast. We are in similar situations as my oldest just finished Kindergarten and his brother isn’t two yet but getting their. They don’t play well together.
The library is good and also check around other local places. Around here a lot of place will do kids free days once a month making things cheaper to do.
We have a day at the pool each week, the library on occasion and several play dates with a few of his friends from school.
Good Luck!

Game night. Indoor AND outdoor forts, sprinklers, nature hikes. Scavenger hunts. Do you have a sand box? Bring out their trucks and show um how to make a town with roads out of sand. Painting flower pots (for your flowers or for gifts), SIDEWALK CHALK!!!!!
That should keep them busy for a day or so. lol

Alex is going to camp at the Y for just that reason! Well that and I have to work, but you get the idea. :)
Do you have a GPS? Maybe geocaching? Or you could do nature walks – look for butterflies one day, a certain type of leaf the next…
I bet the days fly before and September is here before you know it. I thought Alex got out late, today was his last day.

oh yes swimming is key, a water hose in the backyard works as well and pitching a tent in the yard is loads of fun too. Don’t forget to visit your local library for some down time and a/c.

Anything that involves WATER. Kids can’t get enough of the h2o in the summer….am I right?
Reading, reading and more reading. Lil’ Boy learned this year and I am hell bent on him keeping those skills!
We signed up for a reading program at the local library and they hand out passes to local events after you finish your times- so I get him reading and we get to go places!
