For the Love of a Fish Fry

Growing up in the northeast, I learned to love our local fish fry haven. I remember going with both sides of the family to this favorite destination. Relatives that were from out of town would actually beg to head to Bob & Ron’s Fish Fry. I would sit there looking up at the sharks on the wall, swivel in my seat, and let time pass.

As a child, I was not originally a fan of the fish fry. Instead, I would get a hamburger or later on clam strips (never said I was kosher as a kid). Then, I realized what I was missing.

Fish Fry Dinners

The other night, we took the boys bowling and wanted a quick and easy dinner since it was late. I pulled out our Entertainment book. I recalled that there was a coupon for Bob and Ron’s Fish Fry. We pulled into the parking lot and memories came flooding back. The menu has hardly changed, even with new owners in recent years.

This was not a healthy meal, but something different, nostalgic, fun, and delicious. Yes, it fun to get photos of my kids swiveling in the same chairs I sat in as a kid.

The boys were mesmerized by the giant sharks on the wall. I could not resist taking a photo when they asked me to capture this moment (even if NHL was being silly).

So my question to you this week:

Do you have a restaurant that you recall from your childhood that you like to revisit now? Why do you still like to head back there?

We didn’t eat out as a kid. But I do have a favorite restaurant for kids that I love, it is McDonald’s!!!

  • I remember eating at A &W, Mcdonalds and The ship restaurant. However A&W is no longer available here in Singapore. MCdonalds is not appealing now and The Ship’s standard has dropped tremendously that we don’t patronise there anymore.

  • Harriet says:

The Pickle Barrel- had pickles and popcorn on the table–ahhhh…heaven….. :)

    Have a great weekend!!

  • We didn’t eat out as a kid – our ‘special treat’ was McDonald’s once-in-a-blue-moon. :)

  • Smellyann says:

I don’t go “back home” – ever – but I used to love stopping at Dunkin’ Donuts after church, and I still love DD! LOL

  • Noelle says:

we used to go to my dads friends place, goldens..
it is closed now, as are all the places from when i was younger

  • DeeDee says:

Billy’s – Home of the Gator Burger (not really alligator but called that for it’s size). Yummy!

And thanks for visiting with me today!

  • It is sad but a lot of the restaurants from when I was a kid are closed… or the food is not good : (

  • Simply Bug says:

Looks delish! We didn’t eat out too much but my favorite place was Shoneys! LoL. I still love going there but it’s still not very often. I was always a big spaghetti freak.

  • Jennifer says:

Unfortunately, I don’t get home much these days, but when I do, the only place I want to go eat is my mom’s! LOL! I just miss the home cooking. Plus, more often than not, when I’m home visiting my mom, usually we’ve got a mini family reunion going, and that just makes it all the better!

… but if we had a local fish fry haven like yours, I’d be there in a heartbeat! :-)

Thanks for stopping by my blog today! I hope your Friday is fantastic!

  • I don’t know the names of ones I’d like to revisit but I would LOVE to return to my country to eat any and all the foods that I miss soo much!

Oh fish. I remember loving fish coming straight from the sea, being cleaned right there and cooked.!

Glad you enjoyed a great time with your family!

  • Cathi says:

Recently we went to a new to our area … Shakey’s Pizza Parlor. I had not seen one since junior high school where we would “hang out” on weekends. It was fun and a bit nostalgic!

  • Deborah says:

I only remember going out to a couple restaurants from my childhood, but I couldn’t tell you the names. One had chrome and laminate tables with a music selector right at the table and a phone to place your order. Real 50’s style.

  • Becca says:

Most of the restaurants that I went to as a child are closed now. It stinks!

  • kailani says:

It would have to be Tasty Crust on Maui. My Mom used to go there when she was a kid, too!
