We do not have any pets at our house. Thanks to severe cat and dog allergies, and a small house, we are pretty limited. Growing up, we had pet birds, some hamsters (Hammy and Fluffy had many hamster babies), and countless fish. At one point, we had eight feathered friends living in our house. We had the following members of our family:
- 4 cockatiels – Pretty Boy, Baby, Cinnamon and Wild Thing
- 2 Parakeets – Teddy and Ninja
- 2 cockatoos – Whiskers and Moose
- Now, only one of the birds remains at my parents house. This is Whiskers watching the boys play the other day.
- Over time she has gotten used to listening to them and will even chatter with the boys when she is in a good mood. Whiskers has been in our family for a long time. We got her when I was in middle school. She is a multi-generation pet to say the least.

What pets, if any, did you have as a child? Do you have any pets in your house now?

we just had the garden variety cats and dogs as i was growing up. today we have chevy the super dog who is a little white dog who wants to be big. because he’s a maltese, he doesn’t shed so my very allergic husband has no worries with him.

We always had a few cats growing up and I loved it, though I found out when I went to college and then came back that I’m actually allergic to cats so no more kitties for me! We might get a dog someday though.

I didn’t have any as a child because in a family of 9 kids there were already too many mouths to feed. When I left home I got a puppy. Now I have a farm with lots of animals, goats, chickens, rabbits, dog, cats.

We have a gorgeous bratty 13 year old calico cat who let’s us live in our house with her. NY spoils her rotten and let’s her break the cat rules in the house. She and I have a love/hate relationship and I do not let her break the cat rules. Simple rules. She’s not allowed on the furniture or the beds. NY let’s her on the bed and his desk. :)
We always had dogs, cats, rodents, snakes, chickens, ducks, cows, pigs, house birds of all kinds and more bees than one could count. My first husband was 5th generation beekeeper and those bees (that I am literally deathly allergic too) paid the mortgage and put food on the table while the kids were growing up. I guess they weren’t really pets though. hehe
