What’s in your garden?

Yesterday I posted about our ups and downs with gardening. I love looking at flowers and eating fresh fruits and vegetables. Summer time is perfect for all of this. Of course, note I never said I like gardening. Nope, I am not one that has ever liked to dig in the dirt, be with bugs and get my hands into all of it. I much prefer crafting if I must get messy.

The boys are not like me. They  seem to like gardening and watching things grow. This year we bought plants that were already past the seedling state, so that helped a lot.  We are hoping that soon we will have more fruit and veggies of our own. BTW – Yes, I am aware that I goofed and had the cucumber plant marked as a zucchini in my previous post. There was a little communication error on my end with hubby and I marked them wrong. Ooops!

So my question for you this week:

What do you have growing in your garden? Do you have a favorite item . . . fruit/veggie/flower or one of each? If you do not have a garden, what would you love to grow? Any thoughts on gardening and successful growing would be greatly appreciated since we have been battling all of natures fun (bunnies, birds, rain, hail. . . . and so on).

We had two beautiful sunflowers, but the stalks fell over in a storm. The string I had around them choked them. So sad. There are a few posts on my blog about them. I have a “black thumb” when it comes to gardening. I have learned my lesson for next year. Aloha and take care.

I was planning to have a garden this year however it didn’t work out. We have a lot of problems with our yard and need to start completely over. I hope to have one next year however where we can grow lots of tomatoes, zucchini, corn, and cucumbers. (among other things)

I have a spice garden on my window sill. Oregano, Basil, Thyme, Parsley.

I can’t seem to grow a thing here!! The climate is sooo HOT and dry! I think I need some kind of special hot house or something! lol

  • Kari A. says:

I would love to have a knot garden. Something so neat and orderly – nothing like my real life!

  • Smellyann says:

Our garden is a joke. LOL A few years ago – ’04, maybe – I planted tons and tons of bulbs. They grew nicely for a couple of years, but now that hubs and I are too lazy to weed, he just weedwhacks the whole thing!! :O That is NOT my suggestion for you. hehe

I would LOVE to have a vegetable garden, but, well, see above. Oh, and an herb garden, yes, yes, yes.

  • Sarah says:

I’m sad to say our current yard doesn’t really allow for a garden, but I’d love to have one someday.

  • I don’t have a garden now, but I would like to grow some flowers, strawberries, tomatoes and herbs.

  • Sues2u2 says:

I have lots & lots of weeds plus lots & lots of bugs. Afraid we haven’t gotten the kinks worked out on where to put all of the drainage sites. Ugh!

  • Rob says:

We have a herb garden then we have red pepper, yellow pepper and tomatoes.

  • Jen says:

    I don’t have a garden

  • Nina says:

I just wrote a post about my flowers on Wednesday. They are growing so great this year, along with my squash, zucchini, tomato’s and everything else. My favorite this year are the Sylvina’s. I have these tall thin blue ones that are so pretty.

  • Harriet says:

I kind of went over board in the garden department.
I did just pick some roma tomatoes, cilantro and a zucchini.

I love gardens of any kind. Flower, herb and vegetable gardens. The funny thing is that I do not have a vegetable garden…yet. I am hoping to start that next year. Right now in my flower garden, my favorite flower is the purple coneflower. Aloha!

  • Audrey says:

We do not have anything growing this year. I would love both a flower garden and a veggie garden. Flowers are so pretty and so fragrant, but nothing beats home grown veggies.

  • Heather says:

We do not have a garden this year, simply because with having another baby I wasn’t up to it. :) Last year the children planted cherry tomatoes, squash and various wildflowers. They really enjoy it!

  • Sarah Mines says:

Last year i did my flower beds…8 months pregnant. the whole 9 yards…put up the rock borders, weeded, top of the line dirt. they were beautiful. This year i decided i liked the weeds just fine.

  • Auntie E says:

I do have gardens in my yard. I really like growing Herbs. My love for smells is great and the flowers with the most fragrance tend to be the ones I plant. visit my Garden site I have post man of them.

  • Louise says:

    my garden has roses

  • shelly says:

We have flowers in our garden, but as of right now, some of them aren’t fairing too well because of the heat and lack of rain. We got a little rain yesterday, but some of the flowers are still looking sad. Our mums are doing the best!

  • Becca says:

We tried to plant a garden about a year ago and it all died. I love growing corn though!

  • Vicki says:

Sadly, I don’t have a garden yet because we just recently moved and haven’t gotten that far yet. We’re still working on the grass. Plus, our yard is mostly sand.

If I did have a flower garden, I’d have a huge variety. I love them all.

As far as a veggie garden, I’d have juicy red tomatoes, cucumbers, bell peppers, black eyes, broccoli, brussels sprouts, yellow squash, zucchini and lots more. I love me some veggies.

  • kailani says:

Nothing grows in my yard! My dad planted an orange tree for me once and it was dead in two weeks. :-(

  • You know the term “black thumb.” Yea, I don’t have a garden. lol
